I thought y'all might appreciate this write-up.

I am now the proud owner of two XDs, one 9mm and one 40 S&W. I may eventually own one in 45 ACP, if this keeps up.
One of the things I like about the XD-40 is the full case support the barrel chamber provides. If you reload a lot like me, you will appreciate longer brass life.

I was considering an XD pistol for a while, and thinking wow, Springfield like the gun makers in Massachusetts eh? Nice. Now I know no one in their right mind would open a gun factory in Massachusetts. But I start looking at their guns and I keep seeing this:
Springfield Inc, Geneseo IL.
Made in Croatia
Made in Croatia really? You couldn't even try making the gun in the USA? I mean Smith and Wesson has a factory in Springfield. It would seem that they'd have more of a claim to the name than this company does. Henry repeating arms just moved their factory from Brooklyn N.Y. if you can believe that, to somewhere close to Newark N.J. ( Yes that's right a place in New Jersey that manufactures guns. )
It wouldn't be that bad, but almost all their guns say SPRINGFIELD ARMORY, U.S.A. And their website has Springfield Armory USA plastered everywhere. All this rich American tradition ballyhoo all over the website. The name is so synonymous with American guns I guess everyone just assumes they are made in the United States. But that's not the case.
Come to find out the XD45 is a Croatian design licensed to be sold in the USA by Springfield under the name the Springfield XD.

I'm not sullying the Croats ability to build a fine gun, I just found this kind of crummy marketing put me off to the whole Springfield idea. That and they are very chunky guns.
Lookin like the Glock is gonna be it.

You think that's bad? Then I won't tell you their 1911's are made in Brazil. :eek_ma:

You mean like:
MADE IN AUSTRIA
GLOCK, INC SMYRNA, GA
I do agree that they play up the Springfield name and try to tie it in to a non-existent history, but they aren't hiding the fact that their guns aren't made here. That's just part of the marketing hype the same as Glock's claim of 'Perfection.' (My Glock 19 is hardly perfect.)
Hopefully anyone purchasing a firearm would do some due dilligence before making a decision. It doesn't take but a few keystrokes or a trip to the gun shop to get the information that really matters these days.

With the trigger safety and grip safety, IMO, the safest pistol out there. I just bought an XDM 40 from broke son-in-law. Has a smoother trigger than my previous XD's.

I have the older model 40, but the M is badass.

I looked at the S & W, the XDs and the Glocks and went with Glocks for our new matching G23 pistols (My wife and I) and I also bought myself a G22 for open carry. The cost of extra magazines was one deciding factor, (By far Glock are the cheapest, I won't own an auto without at least 12 mags and way more aftermarket goodies are available for Glocks) as well as the anachronistic grip safety on the XDs. I do like their ergos except for that silly GS. In case you all didn't know, Browning designed the 1911 to US cavalry specs, as in horse cavalry.. they were afraid that a fall off the horse might cause a discharge. Browning only added it to get the contract and his later (and better IMO) design the BHP omits the GS. This safety has no bearing whatsoever on 99.99% of gun carriers today, and was of doubtful value even back in 1911
