View Full Version : Anyone regret buying gold?

Alright, I'll play.
First, I have a strong position in silver as well as gold. Some of that gold was bought long enough ago that it HAS outpaced most of the silver I own. A little of my silver was bought long enough ago that it's outpaced even my most ancient and cheapest gold acquisitions. But, the values involved do not compare, even if the percentages do.
Second, let's look at TSHTF scenario that's a topic of popular discussion on GIM. If TSHTF tomorrow, and it manifests itself like many 20th century SHTF's, my family is on the move. I'm not talking Mad Max, tents, camper stoves and zombies. I'm talking "the situation where we are is untenable and it's time to exit for more palatable governance." We'll be carrying ALL of our gold, but will be forced to leave a lot of silver behind if we can't trade it first.
So, no, I don't regret owning gold. Nor do I regret owning silver. I can, however, see how I'd regret copper if all I could do is sit on it or take a big loss on the premium paid if I tried to convert it.
In a couple years, it may work out, cu that is. I just had to hedge after my real estate debacle as EVEN I can't see this silver bull doubling annually forever.
I DID buy the cheapest investment grades out there at least.

Silver has always been a way to get gold my regret might be that I don't have more silver to trade for gold when the time comes. Now is the time to buy gold, silvers time will come, (back).
If I become a hater can I be a buffoon too?
It ain't that easy! You're going to have to really bust my balls to get in the club such is my good mood here:)

I think Rusty is buffoon #1, but I could be mistaken.~:bear_noexpression:
And what's with the term "10 of you" I'm guessing you're in the 10 also.
In the real world we used to have a BBHOF (ball busters hall of fame)>> kind of like buffoons with a modicum degree of rational thought process thown into the emotional mix. NO one but zed should have the priviledge of being the ORIGINAL charter member numero uno of that aforementioned BBHOF!

I can HONESTLY say there are a number of folks herein that have different motives.
That said they are doing what they do to make money.
Some PUMP and want you to DUMP;
Some POMP and want you to protect yourself;
Some PROSTITUTE themselves for TPTB;
Some PROCRASTINATE for later;
Some are just rude PIGS and will get eaten;
Some are real :piss: PRUDES;
Some are real PRINCIPLED and do what is right.
Of the seven I can usually put the right name on most.
That's me Pride and Prejudice.... :haha:

Hookers and Blow!!~:banana:
I know this really pains the hard core silver bugs, but an oz of silver still will not buy you a hooker nor blow.
An oz of gold will buy you BOTH.!~:23_28_100s:
Oh bull$hit Irons...you need to get down here to the hood more often!!! Just the other night, one of my security guys at a factory we're knockin' down in the "D" told me he was offerrred a BJ for $3, and she was giving him the "hard sale" saying $hit like: "How the HELL yous gonna say no to a three dollar blow job?!?!"
He also gets offerred crack at a very reasonable rate. I am sure for $46, you could be passed out in a gutter, pants around yer ankles with your blistered, puss infested pecker hangin' out and one hell of a haze while still having a few extra rocks left in yer pocket to enjoy later. Heck, you might even have a few bucks left over to get yer teeth pulled from all that "bonus" meth you could get too!!!
$hit homey...it's all good....

I hate to clue us all but in the real world we'd probably have a frickin blast.
We're just all so cocky that our area of expertise is the be all and end all.
FYI--On 2 other sites they are calling for possible collapse on Tues after this long weekend.
I just told my wife to take our pu truck and get some preps tomorrow. It's scary out there!

To the question: I don't 'regret' buying gold but in retrospect I regret not having used the money to buy more silver, or palladium at the time. Of course, that is looking back as I said. Thing is, gold is like your precious blow. Very addictive. I got into this old gold thing and could'nt get out. European and American. I just love the thought of where its been and that some chap in Europe held it dear and then had to let it go. I feel kind of a duty to preserve it for someone down the line. My only saving grace is once I have a specimen, I don't feel a strong need to have more of that particular one. One of each is enough for me.
Now, for another matter which I've seen discussed on here. I don't feel a need to have less weight of silver for gold. I hope one of the biggest obstacles I ever face is not hardly being able to tote all my bars of silver. That would be just awful now would'nt it?

So, why denigrate those of us who have silver and gold... or even those who just have gold?
Copper has done very little lately compared to gold, and worse yet it carries a much higher premium than either silver or gold. That is, a much higher premium the way you acquired it. Penny sorters are a whole different story.
And on the subject of premiums, it needs to be remembered that tracking spots does not the whole story tell. When silver bottomed in late 2008, physical was very difficult to find and generally carried premiums in the 20% to 30% range when you could find it, maybe only 10% if you were lucky or willing to wait for delivery. OTOH, gold was bottoming around the same time, or shortly thereafter, but typical premiums were in the 5% to 8% range.
There's no arguing that silver has had a wonderful run. But, that doesn't make gold a red-headed stepchild. Frankly, copper might be. Or maybe not. Bottom line is, it shows a distinct lack of pragmatism to run around busting everyone's chops for owning gold with "only" a 100% gain over the last two years (though a 5x increase over the last 10 years, rookie) when you've supposedly put 50 large into what is presently $36K worth of copper.

A toast:
Raise your glass to Zed.
He took one for the team.
Still not sure quite what he said,
That raised such bloody steam.
To me seemed kinda' tame.
Still, soon he'll be set free.
And once again we'll play the game
the way it's meant to be.
