What do you think? Cheapest premium I can find for any gold coins at 1%...are these considered the 'junk' of gold coins?

From what I understand, these gold coins were popular in 1974 when Americans were 'allowed' to own gold bullion again.

The gold content of the Austrian 100 Corona is .9802 oz's pure gold.
The gold content of the Mexican 50 Peso is 1.2057 oz's pure gold (the largest gold bullion coin on the market).

I'd been looking at 50 pesos last week. I like and the per-oz premium is less than half of the next best thing on my short list, PAMP 1oz bars. However, when I looked at spreads (premium less the buy-back over/under) I found that both PAMP's and Krugerrands had lower slightly spreads. No guarantee that continues to be true in the future, but worth considering.

All the 50 Pesos I'm looking at are 1947's. "First issued from 1921 to 1947 with a low mintage of just 309,000 coins, 3,975,654 more were issued between 1949 and 1972 which were almost certainly all dated 1947"

that's what i was talking about. if you ever get a chance at a non 47 for the same price, take it. they sell for a premium over the 47s. still, the 47s would be my choice over the other low premium options.
