I have problems with can openers that break after only a few operations. Can onyone suggest name of a good/rugged hand operated can opener for purchase .

Thanks you.

Look for an Ecko, they may still be made in the USA. You can find old ones at garage sales, real ones are heavy in the hand. Good Luck!

Here's the Army's greatest invention...a P38

I'm partial to OXO brand:

My fibromyalgia gives me trouble trying to use P38s, but I've had nothing but good luck with Kitchenaid can openers.

The Swing-A-Way can opener...essentially unbreakable (if you can find one Made in the USA). Newer ones are made in China...and ain't as tough.

Check out an Ace Hardware store...old stock might still be American made.

And for those with hand pain or dexterity problems...the Swing-A-War with crank:

No offense to those who like them, but I highly recommend against plastic handled can openers. We had a Zyliss, usually a brand that makes good stuff, and the handle snapped like the cheap "Made in China" sh** it was. Replaced it with another Swing-A-Away noted above.

If you hunt around, you can find a BIG version of the P-38 ( not the orginal GI issue one ), which is a lot easier to use. I found some years ago at a camping supply place.

I'd go with the trouble free swing-a-way but always have a P-38 handy

P 38 on the ends
P 51 in the middle

I have had good luck finding old, American made Swing A Way can openers in my local Goodwill and Salvation Army stores . Also, the can opener on any Leatherman Tool is a little slow in operation but indestructable and easily cleaned off.
