I ordered a couple of cases of Mountain House #10 cans from Ready Resources in Tennessee. I ordered them on Tuesday afternoon of this week and they showed up yesterday. I guess Mountain House has figured out their issues.

Their issues? You mean their supply to US.GOV has been filled.I recieved a call a few days ago stating the Crane Naval Weapons facility is filling their ammo bunkers full of food.A few weeks before that I received word Dobbins was stockpiling food.Just in time for a debt crisis or constitutional one? No idea, just reporting the facts.Maybe time not to do as they say, but do as they are doing.

Yup I was thinking the same thing. Now that they're stocked and loaded, they're getting ready to knock the final Jenga piece out of the economy.

I hope they wait awhile, I don't have all my preps ready. I was also wondering about ordering freeze dried food during the summer months. I hate the thought of them sitting in a hot truck for a week as they make their way to me. I wonder if that shortens their shelf life.

The heat probably won't matter if there is nothing else to eat.
Oregon Freeze Dry (the people who label Mountain House) did a huge order for COSTCO that they were selling on line under their own label.
I managed to get 6 cases before they sold out. The plus in the COSTCO thing was that they were 3 case variety pack. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Relatively inexpensive additional insurance. Nice work. I hope we all are not wishing we had....

Nice thing about 'em is heat/eat, and 25 year "use by" date. Stored in a relatively cool, dry place, I suspect "forever food". Backup to a backup food plan.

did you ever try any? which ones tasted good? I like the stroganoff and did not like the scrambles eggs (IMO).

Yeah, not too impressed with the eggs....but they beat NO eggs...ahahahaaa.
Most of the entrees are top notch. I ordered a bunch in the little pouches first to test out.
These really are a backup, IMHO....for occasional use only. More about insurance than really planning to eat them. ALTHOUGH, I did order some pork chops from Freeze Dry Guy, and they were great ! And I love freeze dried strawberries/etc from Honeyville.

COSTCO "Online" still has their 1-year, 4-person Supply Freeze-dried & Dehydrated Food (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11613699&search=freze%20dried&Ne=4000000&Mo=3&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&in_dym=1&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=4001055&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&whse=BC&D=freeze+dried&eCat=BC|3605&Ntt=freeze+dried&No=3&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1) on their web site for $2,999.00.
360 #10 cans, that's 60 cases.
With them you have to order online and you can pick up at the outlet or they will deliver. Offer ends on the 14th. No I don't work for them, I just think it's a fair deal because the food is made by the same Co. as MH.

The only problem I have with packaged food like that is lactose intolerance and they ALWAYS use some kind of milk product!

Not to mention INSANE sodium content. A word to the wise, sample the packs before you buy. My wife got a raging headache after eating the pasta primavera. It tasted fine, but this is a problem with a minority of people who have tried MH in particular, possibly due to the sodium. FWIW they do have the best tasting entrees.

I like the chili mac, chicken polynesian, lasagna, beef stroganoff, and more. A little Tobasco helps all the beef based ones. I always add a little more water than recommended and stir very well before letting them sit to soften.

I also like the Chile Max and the stroganoff. The mac and cheese is good too. I have some sweet and sour pork that I want to try sometime within the next 25 years.

They are surely backup. But they are also comfort food for hard times days when you don't have the physical/emotional strength to cook from scratch. I can see MH freeze dried entrees being really useful for those occasions when you just can't face that 5 gallon bucket of beans or rice.
As for the eggs, I found the freeze dried pre-cooked MH eggs to be infinitely better than the dehydrated egg products. The dehydrated eggs are fine when you can hide them inside something else (like a cake with icing, lol); but for those meals when you want, say, scrambled eggs, you'd better plan on plenty of sauteed onions, peppers and cheese if you want to use the dehydrated eggs.
