My favorite is a .9999 fine 1 oz South African 100 Rand from 2009. This is the Limited Edition Natura Series (http://www.samint.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=15&Itemid=117), White Rhino. 1500 were made as individual coins, and another 1000 made for the prestige set. I have #0061:

Saint Gaudens has been the clear winner for 100+ years. It just does not get "old".:)http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo168/Rich1776/testing003-1.jpg

I know most people think the St. Gaudens is gorgeous and with a nod to majority opinion, I just don't see it. I think the Liberty Head double eagle is one of the best looking coins ever. Not so much the obverse, but the reverse is stately and dignified while at the same time, possessing an artistic quality that I find quite attractive.

The UHR is very attractive, but I can't see it as anything but a fancy restrike. The standing Britannia design, as captured by TomD (and subsequently printed out
and hung on my wall) still strikes me as one of the best. I'm a big fan of reeding, something the UHR also lacks.

They say "beauty is in the eye of the BE-HOLDER."

I love old Roman Coins when they mean something to history.

Take for example this Late Roman Coin made for a BARBARIAN named Attila the Hun around 441 A.D.

He and his HUNS had just crossed across the top of Italy doing what BARBARIANS do - wiping
out the country. They had just finished chasing all the Italians into the sea wherein they actually
founded Venice 440 AD to 1797 AD when Napoleon wiped them out - only 1,357 years compared to
America's 235 at present.

So the Roman emperor had to pay off Attila to get him away until the Romans could take of him later.

I appreciate the MS kind(s) They paid him off in 100 of thousands of these. After 1,570 years I find it
rather hard to get the real high grades. The Roman mint closed there a long time ago when they did
what we are doomed to repeat.

Here's the last GOLD coin Venice issued as a city state when Napoleon took them over.

They issued the SAME type gold coin a DUCAT from around 1206 to 1797 = 591 years.

Very nice looking coin. I was able to pick up an ex-jewelry for a hair over melt. It's an S, too.
