While it has been mentioned about the tail mark on San Francisco SAE in another post. Supposedly someone has come across a die crack on the reverse proof. The article uses the word horizontal but I think they mean vertical.
Here are two links about the tail mark:

I think that's cool....I wonder if it would affect the grade since it was part of the strike and not an after Mint issue

The die crack isnt a variety, it's an error worth much more.

Of a LIMITED production coin too.
I' d first check into PCGS and NGC and see how they would label it before sending it IN!
BECAUSE...
PCGS offered to label my SAINT a $20 1909 D/D a - 501 double die - which allows me to enter it in
the registry.
WHEN NGC had the specific coin THERE at the slabbers and already slabbed (with the photo
and the DOUBLE EAGLE book article in front of their face telling them about the 1909 $20 D/D COIN)
$20 1909 D/D by ANACS
(one of only 4 total population):
and NGC told me they could only slab it a 1909 D. Some BS about not being in the "CHERRY PICKERS GUIDE"
did not nor does not matter what the HELL was on the coin.
I asked them "what happened to common sense?"
They are REALLY REALLY hard on SAINTS.

That's a good suggestion. Though a bunch of people with unopened boxes won't know what they have.

Keep in mind that minor die cracks like this add little, if any value in numismatic US coins. Large die cracks are a slightly different story but from what I have learned and read minor die cracks aren't really a big deal. However, modern collectors are an entirely different beast and if a few hundred or a couple thousand were shipped with the crack before the die was replaced I bet modern folks will want one. I know I already do :p.
Moral of the story is, check your sets before selling and keep any examples that you have
