I need to sell three 1 Oz. silver coins and the best plan I can figure is eBay. They're three silver Euros that were released in 2005 as part of a limited "Hello Kitty" run (an animated Sanrio character that's very popular in east Asia). I can post pics but each comes in the original blue box with a small certificates inside. The obverse scene on each is different.
Anyway I need to sell to pay my lawyer ('cause the divorce fun just rolls on and on... and on) and I want to use eBay, but...
...I'm worried it could go wrong and I'd get hosed.
Say for example I sell the set for $500, get paid by the winning bidder, and I ship. Then later, buyer claims, "Oh, these are fake/fraudulent/DrillandFill boinkered 'em/whatever," and goes crying to eBay management about it.
eBay seems so ruthless now that I'd fully expect them to side with the lying, whining buyer and charge my on-file account credit card, effectively giving the coins away to the buyer for free. And what recourse would I have? What could I do?
Nothing that I can see. Still, I really need to sell these.
Can anyone here please give me some guidance or direction? Thanks for any help...

I have had a charge back on my Paypal before selling a laptop on Ebay.. It took a few phone calls, but luckily I had kept the receipts etc. and was able to prove that the item was delivered and I got the money credited back.
I suppose as long as you are up front in your listing and keep all of the information you need there should not be a problem.

Just a note of caution, ebay charges you for listing fees and issues a monthly statement for it and for the percentage they collect on your sold items in that month. i.e. when you receive your funds through paypal, that is not the end of the transaction as ebay will sooner or later within the next month or sooner charge you a percentage fee of your earnings as well as the listing fees.
Just something which many ebay sellers are not aware if they sell there for the first time. I'm not sure if that's what you are doing but just throwing this out there so you know.

Ebay fees: 1. listing fees (very minor), 2. final sale fee (~4%), and 3. paypal fee (~3%). Try craigslist, or a coin shop.

I was thinking about contacting APMEX. I've only sold to them once, but it was a good experience overall. Thoughts?

Great for bullion, not so great for collectibles.
How bout just handing them over to the Lawyer. Better yet tell the X to go pound sand.

$500 was purely hypothetical.
And, I've been saying go pound sand for two years. Now $22,500 poorer I am still battling to be rid of her, and that after 3 1/2 of marriage, no kids.
These coins belonged to my ex, they were a birthday present to her, so selling them is a sort of justice. But back on topic, I need to cash these out. Ideas?

Post a picture. I might buy them from you. We can meet in the parking lot at CNI.

Maybe try Craig's list. You can sell for cash and meet at a Starbucks. If you need backup, let me know.

It might be best go have delivery confirmation and a tracking number when you ship the package to the winning bidder. It will cover you just in case an ebay buyer decides to try to pull a fast one on you. As another poster mentioned earlier, the ebay and paypal fees will eat into the proceeds of the silver that you are selling.

Ebay will likely make them ship the box with metal slugs back to you, then have you refund the buyer. 3 one ounce coins will probably net you $50 each at the very very most. People dont seem to have money nowadays to pay premiums over spot for bullion items.
I personally wouldnt' worry about it since the dollar value of the items is small.

Hey Hive,
I dunno if the buy and sell section is open here,
but a lot of people have had good success with it.

Geez Hive!
5K more in the hole and still not rid of her, wtf. I still wish you the best and that she gets bi**napped and you never hear from her again.
Fraud against sellers is all too common on Ebay.
Plus the fees are too high.
I cannot believe that they charge you more for various items, their cost is exactly the same whether they sell a toothpick or an airplane. Just a few MBs in pics, at most and some text files.
I agree about Craigslist.
How much money are you trying to sell for? If you have less than 100 feedback and sell for more than $100, paypal will hold the money for up to 21 days or until the buyer leaves positive feedback. Besides that, just send priority mail w/ signature confirmation and pay pal will side with you. If this is less that a few hundred bucks then just send priority w/ delivery confirmation. The only upside to ebay is instant access to your cash, unless your new and paypal embargoes the funds for three weeks. JMO, DYODD.

OP, If your "ex" knows about this forum, be careful what value you state and to whom they might have belonged. I know of one case where lawyers have checked forums. Good luck.
