I need a porn blocking program to run on WinXP computers.

Any recommendations?

If you have a router, you should be able to block stuff like 'xxx' and password protect the router access.

Of course, someone could bypass the router, or reset it, but that would require some knowledge.

Check your provider. They might be able to accomodate you?

Open DNS.

Easy, no software, great for kids. Free for home use. Can be used with software on your pc.

GIM2 has Three Simple Rules and that is one of them.

Why on earth would anyone want to BLOCK porn?

Because some of us - unlike you, apparently - have morals and standards. *

I second techguy2's recommendation of using OpenDNS. Free, if you like, but I recommend upgrading to the pay service (cheap), OpenDNS Home VIP, just to help them out.

* I find it very, very revealing that the scumbags who make it a profession to scream "anti-Semite!" in every thread invade someone's thread to make a smart-ass comment like yours...culture-corrupters, as history shows...

Most anything can be easily circumvented if the will be strong enough.

Another option would be to install tracking software. Tell your kids up front and out in the open what the rules are. Be open and honest about the perils of rampant porn addiction in this country. May I suggest 0 tolerance. One strike your out policy with loss of computer privileges for a substantial amount of time (Months). Then pray with your kids because you can't do it on your own.

Do you ever get tired of being a pompous, arrogant, better than thou, jerk-wad? You must have a very sad life that you have to play Mister Perfect on the internet. I don't hate Jews and I don't hate porn stars.

It was an obvious shot at humor. If it offended you, go **** yourself. If that doesn't work, go **** yourself again.

Apologies to the OP.

(YAY!!! My first ban! Unlike you, I won't blame it on the Jews.)

If you had any idea of the amount of porn addiction that is occurring in the world today you would look at it different.

We live in a different world than when dad received his Playboy in the mail once a month. The number of men and teens who spend enormous amounts of time and energy viewing online porn is beyond belief. There is an unlimited amount of porn available and it is causing severe damage to people, their relationships and society as a whole.

I am not a religious person so my views don't come from that, it is simply a matter of looking at the facts and seeing what has happened to people I know. Look online at the number of women who say their husbands have quit having sex with them because they prefer online porn and masturbation to sex with a real woman. This is an epidemic and we have yet to feel the full consequences of this behavior.

I don't know your level of expertise but could you help me set up the OpenDNS?

I'm trying to install the OpenDNS Family Shield with their numbers in my router [ActionTec 704]and I got it to work once and then it quit routing through OpenDNS and I can't get it to work again. My internet will work, just not going through OpenDNS as it should according to their tests. Thanks

[Edit] It seems maybe my ISP uses a proxy server. I installed the OpenDNS Updater and it is reporting that I have 2 different IP numbers. One is a DNS IP number and the other is an HTTP IP number. I assume this means my ISP uses a proxy server?

Now what?

go to the command prompt, and type in: ipconfig /all

copy and paste the results here.... (if you are worried about privacy, just erase the part that says "Host name" and "physical address")

I seem to be getting intermittent functionality. Whenever the Open DNS Updater says I have 2 different IPs it is not working. When the Updater doesn't say the IPs are different it works ok. I talked to my ISP and they were of little help. They recommended I make the changes within WinXP and leave the router alone. The tech guy was either not up to speed or unwilling to help. I am pretty sure I have a dynamic IP as static numbers are only available to business class customers [more $$].

The tech advise was right... the simplest solution for you is to change the DNS settings on YOUR COMPUTER.

You can keep the dynamic (DHCP) address just specify the DNS servers.

You would need to do this on all your machines if you have more than one.
