The secondary market determines a companies ability to raise capital!!!!!! Man you have a simplistic view of the market for a so called professional! YES I am financing, I bought the risk either directly from the company in a new issuance OR I bought the risk from someone who did.
Bullshyte!!!! The underlying fundamentals of a company determines it's ability to raise capital via an additional stock offering. But would they issue more stock and dilute the existing shareholders? That has been done in the past for sure. But yes, the existing stock price is factored in when the underwriter estimates what the offering price will be, but it is not the overriding factor. And a stock that is toppy and overbought may well come crashing down when news of a dilutive stock issuance is released.
You do buy "risk" (most call this "exposure") when you purchase shares on the secondary market, but your purchase is not putting money into the company's coffers (unless they are selling thier treasury stock)
With no secondary market there is no primary market and with no primary market there are no public companies, that is how it works yah goose!
You lot are damn commies.... no wonder the US is in a bad way!
I NEVER said that the secondary market was not important. What I did say was that purchasing shares in the secondary market is not "investing" in the company, it is simply a speculative bet as you put on your long trade. Yes, your tiny purchase may have a minimal impact on the price of a stock, but it will not, in any way, alter the market's perception of the company.
Oh, and did you just call Americans a bunch of commies? This from a hinterland dwelling suberu forrester driving piker? I would strongly suggest you stay in your dirty little country and worship the United States from afar.

As I said on the other thread zed old sheila, I'm from Boston, so FU, which is taken from Godsmack lead drummer/singer.
I just wish for one minute I could see these big shots in real life.
You ten remind me of the road rage hot shots who become little men when they're stripped of their 2 tons of protective iron.
I would personally let our gated communities gates that we've lived in DOWN to let you in and then you wouldn't be able to buffoonishly bust my balls.

Was not at desk to see 41.40s else most probably would have sold around 41.20s..
Anyway so from one point +4% portfolio high of day ended -1% ..
Even with all the volatility higher high and higher low not bad.
Just does not feel big crash on the way.
So will carry the pos even with no baby sitting ..

We are fine so long as we maintain weekly closes above $39. If not...
On the negative side - things are starting to get a bit tight on the debt ceiling situation. I cant help but think that there is going to be selling pressure that will increase on a daily basis as people strive to convert to $$$ to ride out the storm. People dont want to sit through a repeat of 2008. The 64K question is how does silver react to this - does it tank like it did before (as people liquidate anything and everything) or does it rise?
Wish I had the answer...charts dont have the answer to this particular question.

Thanks a million Boss, I always respect your opinions (at least regarding silver!).
Hard to believe that gold is making new highs and the silver dog barely has his head above 40....

Meh, silver is doing ok. You don't want the parabolic moves up, that's utterly unhealthy. Better to get drunk by sipping wine rather than getting a vodka enema.

Silver has done very well over the past year or so. More than a double Gold up by a third.

Man you are wet behind the ears! What planet do you live on kid? Ever seen a capital raising done at a significant premium to the market? No... normally a discount. The secondary market sets the base price for new capital raising ---> you are not going to raise capital @ $2 per share if the market is trading you at $1!!! Why do you think that CEO's are concerned about the price their stock trades at? I repeat... if there is no secondary market then the primary will not exist... no primary market then there are no capital raisings... no capital raising and you have nothing! Why you'd try to discount a critical part of the equation is beyond me? Supporting these companies in the secondary market is key to their success! Well... unless you are a commie organization with a hand out to the government for support... you know, like a good chunk of Wall St these days.
Of course a dilution drops price, shareholders never like it and of course they dilute!!!! Miners do it all the time, it has been one of the main ways the explorers raise cash when they are in the blue sky cash burning phase.
You do buy "risk" (most call this "exposure") when you purchase shares on the secondary market, but your purchase is not putting money into the company's coffers (unless they are selling thier treasury stock)
Who said it was putting money DIRECTLY into their coffers? I said it determines there ability to raise money, hell it even impacts their ability to borrow money even though there is no direct linkage. If you believe anything else you are stunningly naive!!!
I NEVER said that the secondary market was not important.
You certainly implied it was of no support which is patently untrue.

LOL... hmmmm... yeah... if no one bought the secondary market this whole thing would just work so well wouldn't it? Are you challenged in anyway? Don't you get the connection between primary and secondary markets? It doesn't seem so....
Oh, and did you just call Americans a bunch of commies? This from a hinterland dwelling suberu forrester driving piker? I would strongly suggest you stay in your dirty little country and worship the United States from afar.
This is why the world wants to see you suffer... that attitude right there.
No I called YOU a commie!!!! You work in capital markets and really seem to have stuff all understanding of the beast that feeds you. Capitalism is all but dead in the US, you guys really need to go to China and take notes. LOL They are now better capitalist that you lot! Not bad for a bunch of commies eh?
Go away and buy gold and hide under the bed little man, I'm sure that will fix your countries ills. America needs brave little gold bar huggers right now, don't you think? That will fix it all, don't you think?

Old Man - the same qualities that you admire which cause you to respect my opinion on silver (I assume my perspective based on the exhaustive research and study I have done over many years) are the same qualities that guide my "opinions" on "other matters" (exhaustive research and study over many years). I am curious as to how you could respect one and not the other...
Just razzin' you. I appreciate your support (Bartles and Jaymes - remember them?).

I'm going to run for congress, see if I can make their heads explode.
I'm bullish here but I expect a slapping on the resolution of the theater surrounding the debt ceiling. I would be buying that event all things remaining equal... to me the start of the strong season really appears to be moving forward in the year. I'm not so worried about summer these days!

I am seriously considering doing something I am loathe to recommend to others (margin). Should I? Would you? What is your worse case scenario if your prognosis is wrong? Jbilprophet is long. History Student is long. I am long. Should I go "super-long"?

I don't and will not use margin in silver. Simply because things like that out of hours take down from $48 occur. If I where to do it I'd be day trading and closed out by the end of the session. That is not my style, I generally hate ultra short term trades, I'm mid to long term mainly ----> not what you call high frequency!

I daytrade with margin all the time (AGQ and ZSL) - but, rarely overnight. Thinking about it though...what is holding me back is the uncertainty of knowing whether silver repeats 2008 or if it goes ballistic - I could make a strong argument for either right now.

DHAWK - Take what I say with a grain of salt as evidenced by my poor entries in USA.V thus far...
I think the key is the RSI - keep an eye on it. If the uptrend is to hold - the RSI will need to hold 40 on a daily close. If it doesnt...
