Long time no post.

Simple trade that allows me to sit. Accumulated April 2012 SLV 34 calls since September 22, 2011 with cost basis of $3.70

Targeting $48 spot by February 2012 with the following thoughts:
- Close out calls if silver spikes up quickly to that range or $50
- Sit on calls if silver climbs to $50. Would love to see a weekly close over $50 by late February.

Easy leverage that can't be margined out of now. Patiently waiting for a daily close over $39.50 spot to rethink the global atmosphere. Win big, lose small gentlemen.

Bart Chilton just did an in depth interview with King World News about the silver market, the new trading position limts, etc... a MUST listen to in my opinion.

Ok - so the new position limits goes into effect 60 days after the CFTC defines swaps - which Chilton says may be done November 17th. I wouldnt be surprised if there is another delay but we will see.

Once swaps are defined, the shorts in silver will have 60 days to get under the position limits - which they will have to do by buying silver.

It seems to me if I was them - I would be trying to figure out a way to smash the price of silver one more time. Of course it cant happen by selling short as that wouldnt solve their problem - you cant decrease your short position by adding more shorts...

I think this situation with MF Global and CME and ICE both indicating they are reducing their margin requirements will be the catalyst that is used. They have indicated that this reduced margin requirement is "temporary". I think the plan is to allow the lower margin requirements to remain for several weeks (let people forget about them) and then at an opportune time - raise margin requirements severely which should do the trick. If this was done in conjunction with a time when the Chinese markets are closed (holiday) that would allow for maximum impact. Of course it would be coordinated with their European counterparts.

So - the reduced margin is designed to entice retail money into the market over the next several weeks with the intention of slamming price through margin increases at some future point to drive these retail (weak hands) out during a period of light trading (perhaps over the Christmas/New Year).

Just speculating...

Trading range pros are selling the rallies. Upside so far has pretty much been contained by the 3/8 of the range 26-49 near 35. 35 is also at the halfway point of 44-26. We need a few closes over 35 to signal a launch IMHO.

Thanks for your comments, Strawboss. Something tells me you are among a very few who have this game figured over the next few weeks. Long term, we all know where Ag is headed. It's these short term calls that are next to impossible. Again, your insight here is priceless.

Ah--that IS good news. So tell, then, Ag price for close tomorrow, Tuesday and Friday--even a general direction (up or down, hard or soft) will suffice.

TIA!

It would not surprise me to see in 2-3 years some of these top producers and royalty companies paying dividends in the 10% range although on second thought, with those kind of returns possible, the market would probably just bid the stock prices up in an environment where a 4% return is especially good.

Anyone else want to weigh in on short term vs long term?

Didn't think so...

I've been doing this for 49 years. "This" is putting my money where my mouth is and investing in silver and gold. I didn't appreciate the low shot about short term being easy. I guess the point has been made. (Yes, I really don't give a whoop if I stepped on toes that stepped on mine)

Strawboss was especially articulate on the material factors we should consider. AND, I will add, even if the prognostication was not right, it was truly insightful.

Insight--perspective--THAT is why I bother to come in here every day. And when I see something that resonates, and make a positive comment--you who have less experience should take note. No--don't take it as a given. No--don't take it as gospel. Just take pause...and give it consideration.

OTOH--if I get stomped for my notation--even if by a mod--I will reply until they pry my ability to comment from my cold, dead hand. :s15:

Like many here, I've made a bundle. Take it FWIW, but don't stomp my post without something to back it up.

I wouldn't think a man of your experience would be soliciting tips on an internet forum. Oh well, whatever floats your boat. ;)

Thanks, Jim, but I'm done here. I don't take "jokes" that step on me but aren't acknowledged as "jokes" for several days after they've been called out and I've been told to "piss up a rope."

Tomorrow will be a great time to buy silver.

Why?

Eric Sprott just filed a 6-K in Canada so that he can buy an additional $1.5 BILLION in silver (PSLV was $500 million). This may be approved in as little as 2 weeks from now.

TORONTO, November 16, 2011 — Sprott Asset Management LP announces that it has filed a preliminary short form base shelf prospectus containing information relating to units of the Trust with securities commissions or similar authorities in all provinces and territories of Canada. Under the shelf prospectus, the Trust may offer from time to time during the 25 month period after a final receipt is received for the prospectus up to US$1.5 billion of units of the Trust.
