Of course I will have to buy a stripped lower reciever and put it together ....... but seems like a pretty good deal. I have missed going to the ranges and want to get back into it.

I had fun with mine that I completed earlier this summer.
Here is the thread I did on it (with pics).
http://goldismoney2.com/showthread.php?7826-Finally-My-AR15-Project-is-complete-(pics-included)!!
If it is a complete build kit, I recommend getting the upper receiver vise block. I got by with out the lower vise block though. I got mine from Midway. I could not find any way to secure the upper while attaching the barrel and the barrel nut. Barrel nut wrench is a must too. I have also found that the Derlin (sp?) take down pin punches where well worth the $2.00 I paid.

Well I found a place locally that has stripped lowers + lower parts kit and will assemble it for me.

I recommend assembling the Lower your self if you have not done so. It can be a little frustrating (especially if you have bad eyes (bifocals) and are a little shaky with fine motor skills. The springs and detents are small!! But it was a learning experience for me and I have a clear understanding of how the guts of my rifle operates. It only took me about 45 minutes going through the step by step online tutorial from Brownells (free on their website). A good lower and LPK should set you back $150 or so. YOu can find some blems and generics cheaper on the other hand you could also spend $200+ on just the lower with no LPK.
Have Fun and show some pics when you get done no matter which route you take.

I might know somebody who got a Del-Ton unit recently enough. He installed, as a matter of course, a Wolff extractor spring. (research the peculiarities of non-20" barrel/gas systems). It may have been passed on to me that brass fell into a neat little pile to starboard. Same ammo, but after a bit there was a repeatable failure to strip and chamber on IIRC the second round from a full mag. Turns out the optional feed ramps had a little transition problem from the aluminum to the breech. A little Dremel action made it uglier but smoove az buttah.
Good piece, and no real complaints compared to some of the mongrels this acquaintance of mine has seen.
Be safe.

Good to know. But as far as I know im getting the regular feed ramps. Unless I get both the barrel/upper m4 feed ramps.
Went to the shop at lunch, placed an order for the stripped lower + lower kit + m4 MCPS (or something like that) butt stock. Cost was $270/tax. Will be ready today or tomorrow. Plus they are going to sell me the complete upper for $410.
Also I forgot to mention it was a dTi lower ..... forgot what he called it but it was recomended.

Your title “Made up my mind” instantly had me thinking about my girlfriend. As in when we are getting ready to go out and she is looking at the closet thinking what to put on.
I’m sorry… it’s completely off topic, but that was the first thing that popped up in my head and I felt like sharing it with you.
Back on topic, it’s fun to build your own rifle!

From http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ I got the upper reciever and bolt carrier group. Now all I need is a barrel, hand guards, and a scope.

You can't go wrong with Bravo Company. They have great products.

Yeah that's why I went with them. Someone else highly recommended them. I can't wait to go to the range and build my skills back up. Then again this time I wont have just regular iron sights.
DM1975

Iron sights are great and everyone should be able to use them well, but good optics are a force multiplyer and well worth the investment. I have an ACOG's, Aimpoint CompM2's, and a few Leupolds on my rifles and wouldn't take for any of them. Glass is something that should never be skimped on if used.

I would love an acog . But will settle for a simple red dot scope for now. Actually what I really want is nvgs and that laser system that is only visable with nvgs. Forget what its called.

Their are several different IR lasers, but most of them are not on the market. The ones that are out there are very expensive. I have a set of PVS-14 night vision that I use on my 10.5" LMT AR with my Comp M2 at night. great little combo and works rather well. When I was back in Texas last year I went pig hunting with it and ended up killing a nice hog. No need for the laser in my opinion, but they can be nice to have if you like them.

YeAh I dont suspect they would be on the market lol. I will never forget getting to use one during basic. I scored like 36 or 38/40 so I was one of like 6 in my batallion that got issued an m16a4 with all the neat **** on it lol.

I went from using the latest and greatest M16A2 when I first came, through all the bells and whistles up till I retired two years ago using an M4 with ACOG, VITAL IR laser, PVS-14's, and fancy Surefire weaponslights. I remember getting my first A4 and thinking how crazy the rail and detachable sights were. I instantly loved the Gmoney grips you could put on them.

Nice. Yeah I felt so damn highspeed with that A4 LOL. And nice pic of the hog.

Thanks, I don't shoot much anymore, I just stack ammo and mags waiting for the collaps of society, or my mental breakdown, whichever comes first.
That hog had been eating up all the corn at the feeders at my in-laws so I decided to just walk out there one night and lo and behold he was standing there munching away, so I put one through his heart. Had to have someone move him and string him up for me as my back is really bad now days, but we sure ate good that week.

Bought my barrel kit from Del Ton last night. Standard 1x9 twist with feed ramps. Not chrome lined. Also dont know if you guys know this or not but their barrels are actually 4150 CMV. From what I understand thats some high quality stuff.

Personally, I only own stainless or chrome lined on anything that I think may be used as a "drag through the dirt" rifle. Just my thoughts and feelings that gives me piece of mind. 4150 CMV is good, but the crome lined and stainless does better against corrosion and wear. For most people it will do just fine.

I dont plan on really using it heavly. I do plan on getting a BCM barrel eventually to match my upper. And it will be chrome lined too. Just for now this is my cheap bastard alternitive.

So you used an SBR on that pig? What is that, 10.5" barrel?

Yep, stamped 10.5" LMT with a Hornady 75grn BTHP backed with Varget. The pig dropped dead in place, one shot.

One of my favorite 223 loads. Great accuracy out to 200 yrds with all of my ARs...glad to know it's still pretty effective out of a short barrel.

Oh yes, it is very effective. People underestimate SBR's too much because of their short barrels. I get some loss of velocity, but for the most part the most annoying thing is it sounds like a grenade going off when you shoot it. Super loud even with ear plugs. I thought about getting a piggy to go on it to quieten it down, but I like it just like it is.

Barrel came in today. Good fit and finish. Barrel nut twists right on all the way to the last thread without breeze. Came with m4 feed ramps that match the bcm upper perfectly. The barrel is a DTi-del ton.
