I swung by my local pawn shop today and they had a 1996 P proof silver eagle in the box with certificate and plastic case/airtite that just became available. I asked what they wanted for it and walked away with it after paying a cool $24.99  I think I did good.

Nice cherrypick! Sounds like I need to hit the pawnshops.

A couple of years ago I picked up a 1986 proof ASE with nice toning for spot at a pawn shop. It was also in the case with the paper. In fact, he sold all of metal for spot.

I was wrong on my price, it was $24.43 after taxes ;)
I am still waiting to go into a shop somewhere and find some of those worthless gold Mexican Pesos for a couple bucks a piece. :D
I have found stranger deals before so who knows.

I honestly would have probably never picked up a proof coin had it not been so cheap over spot. I got two BU ASE's in the mail this morning too and find them just as cool. I should go get a box of half dollars to dig through while I am on a roll though.

Nice score. You motivated me to search my area for pawn shops. Unfortunately there are none, I guess they are in metro areas only.

Just make sure they are not the 1865 Maximillian tokens, because they are not worth even a couple of pesos, much less bucks ;)

Yeah. Somewhere I have some old silver uno pesos laying around, but no idea where. I grew up close to the borrder so they were kinda common to have floating around. If only I knew then.

NumisMedia lists the prices as follows. But, you need to get it graded first in order to expect these prices.
PF69 $87.50
PF70 $680

Whatever it is worth the proofs are way prettier than the regular bullion coins IMHO.

I agree, it is pretty. It looks like they sell for around $75+ ungraded as long as they have the box and COA. I really aint into that type of collecting, but am happy to add it to the collection.

Funny thing, the pawn guy told me as I was walking out "I hope that don't lose it's value on you here pretty soon" and kinda chuckled. They have 5 JM 1oz bars there too. I am gonna sell off one of my old video cameras and go down there and buy them if I get a chance to. Also had a Morgan, but had not priced it yet.
