I was skeptical, but it had great reviews, and sun-uv-a-beetch, it really works.

Looks like a gigantic eraser. Just run the belt across it for a few seconds, and the belt is almost as clean as new. Really.

I tried it on 100 and 180 grit belts. Worked great on both.

Evolution is an example of intelligent design. It just took 107.6 billion people ,as a measure of time and development, to postulate and substantiate that perspective notably.

A creature that could dissent from the natural order of things in such 'a survival of the fittest system', would show one's opposition for that system by: caring for another, even laying down one's life for another creature at his own expense. This is specifically contingent on the fact that in this scenario: the creature sacrificed for... can or would provide no foreseeable benefit to the one sacrificing one's life. In rare circumstances, you see this in nature. But in higher life forms, the potential and expression of this behavior occurs with much greater amplitude.

Through the time yet to pass, as we grow as humans, we may come to understand that patience is a virtue; as well as fortitude is; as well as wisdom (prudence) is ; as well as justice is. They are the four Cardinal Virtues. Can we speed up time-- as measured by human's enlightenment? Depends on whether we can assume the perspective of God en masse. Call me crazy, but, to that perspective, I think it may be worth aspiring.

What other examples of intelligent design will we witness in our lifetime? No telling. But I believe the next bit of enlightenment will be a giant leap up from ages passed; the simple and seemingly instinctual RULE over the lowly animals of Planet Earth. Is there a new concept of behavior yet to be employed, to be defined, to be refined. Perhaps, it falls somewhere between logic and compassion. It hasn't even a name yet. We could hope.

I tire of the "I have more teeth than you and a willingness to use them, therefore, you are my slave", mentality.

I hope I am in attendance for the epiphanic event.

* (survival of the fittest:Darwinian observation)
** So, our estimate here is that about 6.5 percent of all people ever born are alive today. That's actually a fairly large percentage when you think about it. So, thats 107.6 billion have ever been born.

Florida has a long list of problematic invasive species, from the vervet monkey to the lionfish, but the Burmese python might be the state's public enemy No. 1 so much so that residents will hop out of their cars at night to catch one double the normal size.

A Miami man wrangled and killed the longest-ever Burmese python to be captured in Florida, wildlife officials announced Monday, May 20. The 128-lb snake measured 18 feet, 8 inches long.

Jason Leon spotted the python poking out of the roadside brush late on May 11 as he was driving in a rural part of southeast Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

Leon, who had previous experience with Burmese pythons as a pet owner, apparently got out of his car, grabbed the snake behind its head and dragged it out of the brush. People who were with Leon came to help when the snake started wrapping around his leg. The man eventually used a knife to kill the snake and reported the incident to authorities, the FWC said.

Adult Burmese pythons caught in Florida are on average between 6 feet and 9 feet in length. The previous record-setter, found in August 2012, was 17 feet, 7 inches long. That snake still holds the record for carrying the most eggs a whopping 87 of any a Burmese python captured in Florida. The recently identified beast, now dead, was a female but was not carrying any eggs, according to the University of Florida scientists who examined the snake.

Kristen Sommers, the FWC's exotic species coordination leader, praised Leon's actions and said the agency is "grateful to him both for safely removing such a large Burmese python and for reporting its capture."

But tackling the state's problem with the Burmese python will take even greater heroics.

As its name suggests, the snake is native to Southeast Asia, and it was thought to be first let loose by exotic pet owners in the 1990s. Since then, the population of this nonvenomous constrictor has exploded in south Florida, mostly in the everglades, and it is wiping out native wildlife, such as bobcats, foxes, raccoons and other animals. Wildlife officials have said there may be up to 100,000 Burmese pythons living in the state. A month-long python roundup earlier this year saw 68 of them killed.

NORWICH, Conn. – A Connecticut foster mother faces 100 days in jail after acknowledging she spanked a 4-year-old girl with a wooden spoon.

Jami Littlefield pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court in Norwich to third-degree assault.
The Day of New London reports (http://bit.ly/10LwYFg ) Littlefield told authorities she paddled the girl on the buttocks because she was acting out.

Littlefield was arrested in January after the girl's biological mother noticed bruises on her daughter's bottom when the child bent over to pick up a toy during a supervised visit.
Police say Littlefield initially denied hitting the child but later said she spanked the girl only after the child struck her granddaughter, spat at her and used a racial slur.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...nvironmentNews

Water levels in U.S. aquifers, the vast underground storage areas tapped for agriculture, energy and human consumption, between 2000 and 2008 dropped at a rate that was almost three times as great as any time during the 20th century, U.S. officials said on Monday.

The accelerated decline in the subterranean reservoirs is due to a combination of factors, most of them linked to rising population in the United States, according to Leonard Konikow, a research hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey.

The big rise in water use started in 1950, at the time of an economic boom and the spread of U.S. suburbs. However, the steep increase in water use and the drop in groundwater levels that followed World War 2 were eclipsed by the changes during the first years of the 21st century, the study showed.

As consumers, farms and industry used more water starting in 2000, aquifers were also affected by climate changes, with less rain and snow filtering underground to replenish what was being pumped out, Konikow said in a telephone interview from Reston, Virginia.

Depletion of groundwater can cause land to subside, cut yields from existing wells, and diminish the flow of water from springs and streams.

Agricultural irrigation is the biggest user of water from aquifers in the United States, though the energy industry, including oil and coal extraction, is also a big user.

The USGS study looked at 40 different aquifers from 1900 through 2008 and found that the historical average of groundwater depletion - the amount the underground reservoirs lost each year - was 7.5 million acre-feet (9.2 cubic kilometers).

From 2000 to 2008, the average was 20.2 million acre-feet (25 cubic kilometers) a year. (An acre-foot is the volume of water needed to cover an acre to the depth of one foot.)

One of the best-known aquifers, the High Plains Aquifer, also known as the Oglala, had the highest levels of groundwater depletion starting in the 1960s. It lies beneath parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, where water demand from agriculture is high and where recent drought has hit hard.

Because it costs more to pump water from lower levels in an aquifer, some farmers may give up, or irrigate fewer fields, Konikow said. Another problem with low water levels underground is that water quality can deteriorate, ultimately becoming too salty to use for irrigation.

"That's a real limit on water," Konikow said. "You could always say that if we have enough money, you build a desalization plant and solve the problem, but that really is expensive."

what many have suspected....confirmed

and imagine how bad the numbers are skewed by a tiny percentage of 4 years that make it to executive status...

http://money.cnn.com/2013/02/26/pf/c...ngs/index.html

Nearly 30% of Americans with associate's degrees now make more than those with bachelor's degrees, according to Georgetown University's Center on Education and the Workforce. In fact, other recent research in several states shows that, on average, community college graduates right out of school make more than graduates of four-year universities.

And while by mid-career, many bachelor's degree recipients have caught up in earnings to community college grads, "the other factor that has to be taken into account is that getting a four-year degree can be much more expensive than getting a two-year degree," Schneider says.

A two-year community college degree, at present full rates, costs about $6,262, according to the College Board. A bachelor's degree from a four-year, private residential university goes for $158,072.

The increase in wages for community college grads is being driven by a high demand for people with so-called "middle-skills" that often require no more than an associate's degree, such as lab technicians, teachers in early childhood programs, computer engineers, draftsmen, radiation therapists, paralegals, and machinists.

The families of Navy SEAL Team 6 members killed in a disastrous August 2011 helicopter crash in Afghanistan blamed the government for the tragedy, during an emotional press conference in Washington Thursday.

The family members, speaking at the National Press Club, tried to reopen the book on the crash, in which 30 Americans were killed, most of them belonging to the same unit as those who carried out the raid on Usama bin Laden earlier that year. The helicopter was shot down by insurgents.

During the event organized by a group called Freedom Watch, family members and former military personnel claimed President Obama turned the SEALs group into a Taliban target after the administration revealed they had conducted the bin Laden raid.

Doug Hamburger, whose son Patrick was killed, called the incident an “ambush” that could have been prevented.

“We’re very concerned that the administration had disclosed that the Navy SEALs had carried out a successful attack on bin Laden’s compound resulting in his death. And you know, never before in the history of our county (had) a sitting president released that type of information to the public, especially when he was talking about special forces. Their names and their missions had never been revealed before. And we really feel that this put our guys in an unnecessary risk,” Hamburger said.

Many military experts at the time, including some of Obama’s top military advisers, had questioned the White House’s public praise of SEAL Team 6 and said it put members in danger.

Three months after bin Laden’s death, members of the SEAL Team 6 force -- though apparently not the same ones who carried out the bin Laden raid -- were on board the CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter, along with its Army National Guard aircrew, several support personnel and seven Afghan commandos. In all, 38 people died that night after the chopper was shot down by a Taliban-owned rocket-propelled grenade –or RPG – over the Wardak Province on Aug. 6, 2011.

Charles Strange, whose son Michael, 25, died in the attack said Obama personally promised him a thorough investigation of what happened but has failed to deliver.

Strange also blamed top military brass for sending the troops into a situation they were allegedly ill-equipped and unprepared to handle. The team was responding to an Army Ranger unit that was engaged in a firefight with the Taliban and needed backup.

Asked for comment, Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. James Gregory said: "We share in the grief of all of the families who lost their loved ones."

While not commenting directly on the allegations, he called those who were lost "warriors" who represented "the diversity and talent of America and its military."

An official report was released in October 2011 but family members say it did little to fill in the details and left more questions than answers.

Karen Vaughn says she wants to know why her son Aaron and his team were not using special operations aircraft which have defenses in place to help allow helicopters to go deep behind enemy lines. The night her son Aaron died, he was in a helicopter that was built in the 1960s and last retrofitted in 1985.

A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday that the U.S. government had properly classified more than 50 images of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden taken after his death, and that the government did not need to release them.

The unanimous ruling by three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected a request for the images by a conservative nonprofit watchdog group.
