Hope some of you can help me. I have an '85 RV that is not running properly. It had fuel system issues two years ago and the fuel lines were replaced, fuel pump (manual) was replaced, and a carb kit was put into the 4 barrel. It ran well that summer and has sat for two years since. The fuel tank was full ($800 in gas) so I put sta-bil into the tank in the fall that I parked it. I ran the engine for 10 mins to ensure the treated gas made it to the carb. The following year wasn't a travelling year, so the RV sat idle. I re-treated the gas with sta-bil that fall (same gas treated once a year, two years old total). I did not run it that fall, so the only sta-bil in the fuel lines was from the prior year.

The RV is always sluggish to start after it's sat. I spray fuel into the carb to start it, continuing to spray until the fuel lines filled. This year, it started fine when I supplemented fuel for starting, and then ran fine on it's own draw. The issue started when I started driving. It would stall at random intervals every 30-40 seconds. Spraying fuel in would always start it. Sometimes I'd need fuel for a second, other times for 10 seconds or so but it would always start drawing fuel on it's own again. As I was driving without the option to turn around, I pushed through the hour trip by supplementing the gas feed when I heard the engine falter. This would catch it before the engine had time to fail. Towards the end of the trip, I was only supplementing fuel every several minutes, so the problem seemed to decrease. Mind you, the latter part of the trip was at highway speed so the engine was warm and running at fairly high RPM.

I suspect one of three possibilities:

1. Varnish in the carb is flaking off and blocking the jets on occasion.
- It's a huge 4 barrel carb, so the jets are large and less likely to be blocked by debris. I doubt this is the issue.
2. The float is sticking.
- Not sure about this possibility. How would one tell?
3. I pushed the limits of sta-bil past what they're able to do. The fuel may be bad.
- Not sure how to check the fuel's viability. The random stalling could be caused by debris in the fuel, but the filter should catch that.

Anyone have any tips they can share?

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — In what police are describing as a crime of opportunity, a wanted man with a criminal history dating nearly 15 years entered a front door that had been left open at a New York home near Hofstra University.

A short time later, the intruder, Dalton Smith, and a 21-year-old college junior, Andrea Rebello, were both dead. The two were killed early Friday by a Nassau County police officer who fired eight shots at the masked man, hitting him seven times but also accidentally hitting Rebello once in the head, Nassau County homicide squad Lt. John Azzata said Saturday.

Smith was holding Rebello in a headlock and pointing a gun at her head before he turned his gun at the officer, Azzata said, prompting the shooting.

"He kept saying, 'I'm going to kill her,' and then he pointed the gun at the police officer," Azzata said.

A loaded 9 mm handgun with a serial number scratched off was found at the scene, police said.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Dale said he had traveled to Rebello's Tarrytown, N.Y., home to explain to Rebello's parents what happened.

"I felt obligated as a police commissioner and as a parent to inform them as soon as all the forensic results were completed," Dale said.

The veteran police officer, who was not identified, has about 12 years of experience on the Nassau County police force and previously spent several years as a New York City police officer, Dale said.

The officer is currently out on sick leave. He will be the focus of an internal police investigation once the criminal investigation is completed, which is standard police procedure in any officer-involved shooting, the commissioner said.

The shooting came just days before the school's commencement ceremonies, which are scheduled for Sunday.

A university spokeswoman said students will be handed white ribbons to wear in memory of Rebello. The shooting, which took place just steps from campus, has cast a pall over the university community as it geared up for commencement.

Earlier Saturday, police announced that Smith, 30, had been wanted on a parole violation related to a first-degree robbery conviction. A warrant was issued for Smith on April 25 for absconding from parole, police said.

Smith had what police described as "an extensive criminal history," which included arrests for robbery in the first degree in 1999, promoting prison contraband in the second degree in 2000, robbery in the first degree in 2003, assault in the second degree in 2003 and robbery in the second degree in 2003.

Rebello was in the two-story home in Uniondale, N.Y., with her twin sister Jessica, a third woman and a man when Smith, wearing a ski mask, walked into the house through an open front door, Azzata said.

The door was left open after someone had moved a car that was blocking a driveway, Azzata said.

When Smith entered, he demanded valuables and was told they were upstairs, Azzata said.

Smith, apparently unsatisfied with the valuables upstairs, asked if any of the four had a bank account and could withdraw money, Azzata said. The intruder then allowed the unidentified woman to leave and collect money from an ATM, telling her she had only eight minutes to come back with cash before he killed one of her friends, Azzata said.

The woman left for the bank and called 911, according to Azzata.

Minutes later, two police officers arrived at the home and found Rebello's twin sister Jessica running out of the front door and the male guest hiding behind a couch on the first floor, Azzata said.

One of the officers entered the home and encountered Smith holding onto Rebello in a headlock, coming down the stairs, Azzata said. Smith pulled Rebello closer and started moving backward toward a rear door of the house, pointing the gun at her head before eventually threatening the officer, Azzata said.

The Rev. Osvaldo Franklin, who gave Rebello and her twin their first communions, on Saturday night told The Associated Press their mother, Nella, couldn't even speak to him earlier in the day.

"She was so devastated," said Franklin. "She's just crying. We have to pray for Andrea, to pray for Jessica because she needs help."

Franklin said a funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., and will be in Portuguese.

"The family's a very good family, they have very good values," he said. "They are a very good, very devoted family."

So I was reading this article on allowance in this annoying parents magazine my wife subscribes to when I come to this section:

Quote:

Don't tie an allowance to chores

Rather than instilling a positive work ethic, paying your child for completing routine tasks does exactly the opposite. "Research shows that when you link a responsibility to a reward, you're acknowledging it's an unpleasant task that your child wouldn't do without getting paid," says Dr. Dweck. He needs to embrace his chores and his studies with no financial strings attached.

Still there are cases in which providing a monetary incentive is reasonable. --snip--...there's nothing wrong with offering a bonus if he's willing to tackle a project beyond his normal workload, such as helping to wash the car.

I say horsepuckey. What exactly is wrong with acknowledging that many routine tasks are unpleasant and that one should expect to get paid for doing them? My parents never called it an "allowance", but we did get paid for doing our chores and all their kids have great work ethic and have done plenty of "unpleasant" jobs as adult. And we had a lot of "chores". We didn't really have a choice; but if we didn't do them or we didn't do them to satisfaction we certainly weren't getting paid or an allowance. And "extra projects" beyond our normal workload were just to be expected to be done, not "if he's willing" and generally no extra "pay" but maybe a bit more freedom to choose extra curricular activities.

What say you GIM?

By Brendan O'Brien
MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - An unseasonable winter storm system dropped more than 1 foot of snow across the central Plains and the upper Midwest on Thursday, closing roads and causing power outages in Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to the National Weather Service.

The system has resulted in about 18 inches of snow falling in parts of northwest Wisconsin and more than 15 inches in southern Minnesota, the National Weather Service reported.

"This is fairly unusual. The northernmost areas have seen snow in May before, but not of this magnitude," said Jim Keeney, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Temperatures fell close to 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 C), making for a heavy, wet snow, causing downed trees, power outages and road closures, Keeney said.

The snowfall will likely break seasonal records in portions of Wisconsin and Minnesota, Keeney predicted.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings from southeast Minnesota to northwest Wisconsin and weather advisories for eastern Colorado and the upper Midwest that will continue throughout Thursday.

Total snow accumulation is expected to be 10 to 20 inches in the Rockies with up to 6 inches in the Denver area, the National Weather Service said. Between 2 to 6 inches of snow is predicted for portions of the central plains and the upper Midwest.

The system is also bringing a cold rain to western Oklahoma, central Kansas and parts of southwest Iowa, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service expects the storm to continue overnight Thursday before tapering off Friday afternoon.
He instilled in me the patience to be a good father myself, the wisdom to invest in PMs as an important way to protect wealth, and a healthy respect for firearms as well as the training to use them properly. It was unexpected as he was only 65, but his heart just gave out. It is because of him that I frequent sites like GIM2 and became a member. He will be missed immensely. :(

It musta been amateur hour over there last night. I get up this morning with a big todo list and start going through it over my green mountain coffee. I don't have to watch the spawn today so I figured I could really get some work done.... Then the emergency emails, instant messages and even the batphone started to get lit up; a whole bunch customers had failed to have any orders go through since the middle of the night. ugh... I do some quick debugging; turns out their payment processor was returning some duplicate info (unexpected, a change) and was breaking some freaking 10yr old code that was taken directly from their sample docs a decade ago.

So I login to their site, no notices of any updates. Hey, if I missed a planned update I'm willing to take the hit but there was no notice. Then to top it off, their change was made on their TEST and LIVE systems at the same goddamn time. If they had done like a pro and made their changes to their devel boxes first we would caught this change early on and I wouldn't be typing this bull****. The customers get on the horn with these amateur ****s and spends a hour or so just trying to get ahold of somebody that has two neurons to rub together. After much denial, one of our customers actually got somebody to admit "we did make some edits last night but they shouldn't affect anything". Famous last words you effing hacks. Great idea making your "edits" on live payment transaction systems without a testing process. In the meantime I'm working on a workaround, having to compile and build and roll it out to a dozen different systems running various different builds without my own proper testing process since every minute they are down they are losing orders. Then I start getting word that this change didn't just break us, broke at least 2 other software vendors products that our customers use for non web interfaces -- I guess we all used the same sample docs code a decade ago. So I get all my customer back online, the other vendors are working on a similar workaround after I detailed the problem for them (good relationships are always handy). Finally, their stuff just magically starts working and I check the logs and he faulty resultset is now removed. Customer is on the horn with em and they deny they changed anything at all. Ya know, when I **** up I'll admit it, I've eaten plenty of mistakes. Guess i'm gonna have to start encouraging customers to consider other providers. effing hacks. FUUUUU paypal.

During 50 years of performing, the Rolling Stones have done some peach gigs: They’ve stood before Hells Angels at Altamont, sold out Wembley Stadium and Madison Square Garden, gigged the Palladium in Hollywood, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for "The T.A.M.I. Show" and countless rounds at the Forum. Until Saturday night, though, the band had never played Echo Park.

In a surprise gig described early in the set by Stones singer/dancer/showman Mick Jagger as “the first show of our North American tour,” the band played the Echoplex, a basement club with a capacity of 650. In the crowd were friends, family and a few hundred lucky, patient fans who’d won a ticket lottery earlier in the day.

I am a very fortunate Rolling Stones fan, and watched from a peach spot just in front of the sound board as the London band, currently celebrating 50 years as a unit, performed 60 minutes' worth of classic material that focused on their work from the late 1960s through the early ‘80s, including “Love in Vain,” “Street Fighting Man,” “Respectable” and “Miss You.”

PHOTOS: The Rolling Stones at the Echoplex
They did so on an extended stage that cut the Echoplex’s dance floor by half, so the Stones gig felt even smaller than those who know the venue might expect. When Jagger splashed some of his drinking water into the crowd, I got drenched — and then like any true fan, wiped the water all over my head, licked my lips to get some into my mouth. (This morning I feel like I’ve got some of Jagger’s DNA in my system.)

When Keith Richards, bandanna wrapped around his shock of gray hair and with gold hoop earrings, stepped up to hit the classic opening riff of “Start Me Up,” he did so with a force that knows no age, filled with power, confidence and the pure spirit of a man who has internalized blues, rhythm & blues, rock & roll and country. His six strings sent shock after shock through the venue.

Ditto Ron Wood, whose physique is as lithe and lean as his guitar lines; during “Street Fighting Man,” he worked with as much inspired physicality as in his days with the Faces.

The band’s been oiling the machine at a rehearsal space in the Valley, and the set had the feel of a final dress rehearsal for its upcoming tour, which starts Friday at Staples Center — capacity 19,000.

In the same way it’s unfair to critique the soft opening of a restaurant, this Stones gig at the Echoplex isn’t the one to review — that’ll come on Friday — but it is one that needs to be documented. After all, how many more times will the band be playing such a small space?

The set’s highlights were when the band stretched its material, and on three occasions these expansions thrilled the Echoplex. To see the Stones perform their classic dance-floor stomper “Miss You” on a Saturday night in a tight, sweaty space was as thrilling as you’d imagine. Bassist Darryl Jones pushed the rhythm, and his smooth solo was funkier than Bill Wyman’s original. Jagger pushed the crowd to sing along to his "oooh"-filled chorus, and the room did so willingly.

PHOTOS: The Rolling Stones through the decades

The Stones’ former guitarist Mick Taylor has been doing gigs with the band of late, and on Saturday he arrived for two of the evening’s most bluesy numbers: “Love in Vain,” the Robert Johnson-penned song that the Stones (with Taylor) covered on “Let It Bleed.” To watch Wood, Richards and Taylor work the blues was to witness three great guitarists tap into the depths.

As they’ve done for years, the Stones brought backing vocalists Bernard Fowler and Lisa Fischer to harmonize with Jagger, and keyboardist Chuck Leavell resurrected the late Ian Stewart’s piano runs like a mystic.

Equally deep was “Midnight Rambler,” which Jagger presented with as much menacing energy as ever. Again, with the three guitarists working a chunky blues progression, the band delivered both big volume and energy; these didn’t seem like 70-odd-year-old men but vessels for a music that is as timeless in 2013 as when the Stones were starting out.

And any mention of time must acknowledge the metronomic Charlie Watts, a man whose jazz-inspired drumming offered typical consistency. Equally adept at the disco rhythms of “Miss You” and “She’s So Cold” and the rock of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Brown Sugar” — both of which the band performed in its encore — Watts continued his uninterrupted reign as rock’s most measured drummer.
How was the gig? How the hell do you think it was? It was the Stones in a little club, and for most in attendance, a dream come true.

That's how it was.

Set list for the Echoplex show, April 27, 2013
— "You Got Me Rocking"
