Guns and ammunition are staying on Southwest Florida shelves longer, as the demand caused by Newtown begins to abate.

Local gun sales went through the roof at the beginning of the year, following a December mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school and a January announcement that President Barack Obama supports increased gun regulations. Things have since begun to return to normal, according to local gun retailers.

“Everything has slowed down,” said Wayne Bergquist, owner of Wayne Bergquist Guns and Gunsmithing in Naples. “And a lot of it is due to season, but everyone is kind of over the scare.”

For a few weeks in January, Bergquist sold twice as many guns as usual. But sales have since dropped back to where they were at this time last year.

Travis Brunson, owner of Guns on 41 in south Fort Myers, said his sales last month were down — 16 percent over the previous year. That’s a far cry from January, when they were up 52 percent.

“And May is, I think, shaping up to be a little slower, too,” he said.

Brunson credits the drop in sales to frustrated customers. The January rush on guns exhausted manufacturers, Brunson said, and it can now take six months to ship some popular models to his store. Demand also forced up prices. Sick of the waits and high costs, many gun enthusiasts have stopped buying, Brunson said.

Brunson expects supply to get back to normal this summer.

Yuri Watamura, 21, of Cape Coral, is frustrated local retailers still don’t have enough ammunition in stock. Watamura, who owns multiple guns and was enjoying the shooting range at Fowler Firearms in Fort Myers on Friday, said he’s waiting for supply to get back to normal before he buys more.

“You get price gouged otherwise,” he said.

Gun demand has slowed across the state since January, but it’s still higher than it was last year. In January, requests for background checks to purchase guns in Florida more than doubled from January 2012, according to data from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. That number has fallen every month this year, though April was still up about 30

I submitted a letter to Lord Barrack Hussein Soetoro Soebarkah Obama Shama-Lama-Ding-Dong the Magnificent regarding gun control. One of my big concerns was the repeated phraseology "commonsense" (whose sense?) and "the majority of Americans support", of which I have yet to find one person I know who has been asked. Here's the response I received.

For those of you who would like to save some time, this can be summed up as "I know best, so f**k you, serf." The long version:

Dear samwiii:

Thank you for taking the time to write. I have heard from many Americans regarding firearms policy and gun violence in our Nation, and I appreciate your perspective. From Aurora to Newtown to the streets of Chicago, we have seen the devastating effects gun violence has on our American family. I join countless others in grieving for all those whose lives have been taken too soon by gun violence.

Like the majority of Americans, I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. In this country, we have a strong tradition of gun ownership that has been handed down from generation to generation. Hunting and sport shooting are part of our national heritage. Yet, even as we acknowledge that almost all gun owners in America are responsible, when we look at the devastation caused by gun violence—whether in high-profile tragedies or the daily heartbreak that plagues our cities—we must ask ourselves whether we are doing enough.

While reducing gun violence is a complicated challenge, protecting our children from harm should not be a divisive one. Most gun owners agree that we can respect the Second Amendment while keeping an irresponsible, law-breaking few from inflicting harm on a massive scale. Most also agree that if we took commonsense steps to curtail gun violence, there would be fewer atrocities like the one that occurred in Newtown. We will not be able to stop every violent act, but if there is even one thing we can do to reduce gun violence—if even one life can be saved—then we have an obligation to try.

That is why I asked Vice President Joe Biden to identify concrete steps we can take to keep our children safe, help prevent mass shootings, and reduce the broader epidemic of gun violence in this country. He met with over 200 groups representing a broad cross-section of Americans and heard their best ideas. I have put forward a specific set of proposals based off of his efforts, and in the days ahead, I intend to use whatever weight this office holds to make them a reality.

My plan gives law enforcement, schools, mental health professionals, and the public health community some of the tools they need to help reduce gun violence. These tools include strengthening the background check system, helping schools hire more resource officers and counselors and develop emergency preparedness plans, and ensuring mental health professionals know their options for reporting threats of violence. And I directed the Centers for Disease Control to study the best ways to reduce gun violence—because it is critical that we understand the science behind this public health crisis. From improving mental health services to looking more closely at a culture that too often glorifies violence, we must leave no stone unturned when working to keep Americans safe.

As important as these steps are, they are not a substitute for action from Congress. To make a real and lasting difference, members of Congress must also act. As part of my comprehensive plan, I have called on them to pass some specific proposals right away. First, it is time to require a universal background check for anyone trying to buy a gun. Second, Congress should renew the 10-round limit on magazines and reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban. We should get tougher on those who buy guns with the purpose of selling them to criminals, and we should impose serious punishments on anyone who helps them do this.

These are reasonable, commonsense measures that have the support of the majority of the American people. But change will not come unless the American people demand it from their lawmakers. Now is the time to do the right thing for our children, our communities, and the country we love. We owe the victims of heartbreaking national tragedies and the countless unheralded tragedies each year nothing less than our best effort—to seek consensus in order to save lives and ensure a brighter future for our children.

Thank you, again, for writing. I encourage you to visit www.WhiteHouse.gov/NowIsTheTime to learn more about my Administration’s approach.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

BREAKING: House Republicans Working on Backdoor Deal to Move Gun Bill Through House
May 14, 2013

According to a report on TheHill.com, House Republicans are more involved in the behind the scenes efforts to move a gun bill through the House than most might be led to believe based on public knowledge.

It has long been thought that even if the extremely divided Senate was to pass a gun bill, that it would most likely die a slow death in the GOP controlled House, especially with the midterm elections coming up.

According to TheHill.com,

But House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told The Hill on Friday that he’s had “a lot of discussions” with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on guns. Goodlatte suggested the Speaker is more involved in the behind-the-scenes wrangling of how to move a gun bill than the Ohio Republican has let on in public.

“We are trying to improve the system to keep people who are barred under the law from owning firearms, from getting access to them. We don’t think the things that were proposed in the Senate do that. So we have not backed away from trying to figure out how to improve that, but we’ve made no decisions yet about what to do,” Goodlatte explained.

There is a companion bill to the Manchin-Toomey Senate legislation in the House which was authored by Rep. Pete King (RINO, NY). That legislation currently has 159 co-sponsors, which is extremely high for a bill that seems to be stuck in committee, so it’s not as if the House has taken no action on the issue of gun control.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said she favors that bill along with the Manchin-Toomey Senate legislation (in case you needed another reason to dislike that legislation).

Now is the time to stay vigilant. While all eyes are on the Senate, don’t forget we have two distinct parts to our legislature and both can do significant harm to our Second Amendment rights under the right circumstances.

My fiancee and I are leaving for D.C. on Friday for her sister's wedding, and I just checked the concealed-carry permit reciprocity map at USACarry.com and apparently only Pennsylvania recognizes Indiana gun permits. I really don't want to be without viable self-defense alternatives next weekend, and granted, we'll only be in D.C. a little less than 48 hours, but I'm more worried about the trip to and from D.C. than I am D.C. itself since we'll be traveling as a group while we're in the capital, but my fiancee and I will be driving to and from D.C. by ourselves. Any suggestions on alternative means of defense would be appreciated.

When I was driving through VT backroads this fall, I stopped at a gun shop and seeing a few ARs made me feel gay enough to visit a dilapidated "antique barn" where farmers sell authentic **** from the local dump to idiot tourists. When I smelled a much stronger odor of cow ****, I saw this shovel and the image of the AK handle came to my exasperated mind. Flustered old dude was suspicious of a comrade in a BMW, on less traveled gravel roads of VT, who barely spoke English and needed a **** shovel "for my trunk" but let it go for $2. That's the best $2 I ever spent, closely behind that one time in Montreal - but that's another story.
I cut the handle from the shovel and fashioned it into a buttstock for my Bulgy AK with ever changing furniture. This new butt stock had proven to be surprisingly comfortable.

What kind of AK is it?

What kind of stock is it?

Did you start drinking again?

Well, this is not the end, it's a beginning, because one night I was drinking with the shovel and contemplating what to do with it. It's funny, when you are sober, you can' understand how a shovel can share with you a delicious drink of vodka. So I said to shovel, I will re-unite you with your handle and we had another round of drinks to celebrate! ... and then I cut it up.

To start, I wanted to anneal the shovel and pound it flat enough. To accomplish this I pissed into the furnace and lit it on fire. Then I added some waste motor oil to get to higher temps.

This was a sunny day, but furnace temperature is considerably brighter than any surface around, so camera makes it look like night.

The layer of oxide is completely industructable.

To get rails straight, the trick is to bend them first

Then you trim and ground them with an angle grinder. Receiver came out as straight as Liberace in drag thumbing through gay porn magazines. I do not however discriminate between straight AK receivers and those that chose different orientation.

After that, receiver can be bent just like a regular AK receiver from a blank

I even added Maadi style dimples

Various holes were cut free hand with plasma torch, as you can see by the jagged edges I haven't been drinking

and now we fit a highly collectable Romy trunnion

I had a few strips of shovel left after cutting the top rails

So I decided to bend them into internal rails like these from a stock flat

Dimension wise, I just eyeballed them to get close enough and sandblasted them for welding onto receiver

Spotwelding them did not work out too well, as receiver thickness is a bit thicker than regular AK receiver flats, so I cut 1/4 inch holes to weld rails through.

While at it, I figured to cut out the selector key hole

Then the rails are welded around and to the receiver

Looks good

Now for the barrel blank ... I am working with a cheapo $200, barelles kit so I figured I need to make my own barrel. I got an AK barrel blank ($30), profiled trunnion end, chambered it and cut extractor wedge. The chamber is probably barely good enough to be a machine-gun chamber, definately not a precision job. I lobbed off the end of the blank to bring overall length to 16.25".

Here are populated AK barrel, virgin AK barrel and ... my blank-barrel thingie.

I have then rivetized the trunnion

Barrel was hammered in (press is broken again) and headspaced

Since I was on a roll, I riveted a scope side mount that was kicking around.

Here is a pic of an AK receiver and Shovel AK receiver. The latter is almost 2.5 times thicker and it feels like a rock. ****, I tried to pound some dents out of the receiver and the hammer got dented, because in communist mAssachusetts receiver dents you!

This receiver turned out to be stiffer than me watching full-featured film of Michael Kalashnikov doing Polina Porizkova in a heavy KVI tank on board of a navy destroyer in a midst of a battle.

For all you AR fan boys, this is what M16 and a Romy AK crushed receivers look like.

You can not bend this back

Then I riveted a whole bunch more ****

Sight block, gas block and front sight were just welded onto the barrel.

My awesome and super-collectible Romy kit included kick-ass furniture, like this gas tube with "Mihaela" on it and 12 notches. I don't get it, Mihaela is a Romanian female name and the guy only scored 12 of them.

I drilled the gas port after gas block was welded

Assembly complete

I put a $30 cheap scope with a double rail and WTF, since it had a second rail I added a cheap laser to go with it. The bolt on the scope needed periodic tightening, may be I need lubricate them with cat turds? Laser took off after about 20 rounds.

After 50-60 rounds, the barrel was slightly warm. The height adjustment knob on the scope came off, which explained why it would click sometimes and sometimes not. Once I pulled it off, I could adjust fine.

Here is my target at 50 yards:

that's a 10 round group

Keep in mind that:

1. I suck as a shooter, the last time I was at the range was at Hora Dolor
2. This is 40 y.o. ammo that came from a spam can, not a handload.

Let's summarize:

**** shovel: $2
Romy sans-barrel AK kit: $200
Barrel blank: $30
Compliance parts: free from Martha Coakley (... in exchange for a golden shower)

The look on your competitor's face with an expensive AR when he finds out that he have been outshot by a $2 ****-shovel .... priceless!

... so keep practicing.

In the name of Michael Timofeevich Kalashnikov ... and Flintoid ... and vodka ... you are no longer a **** shovel, you are glorious AK for defense of Motherland!

Desperation: Police Chief Turns to Town Citizens for Ammunition Amid Nationwide Shortages

The Department of Homeland Security may be in possession of nearly two billion rounds of ammunition, but despite claiming it’s being stockpiled for the safety of Americans, they’re not sharing.

The shortages of popular ammunition rounds has made it difficult for average citizens to acquire most calibers of ammunition through regular retail channels, but the empty shelves don’t stop there.

Police departments across the country are scarmbling to find ammunition for training and enforcement, and they’re being told that the delays for delivery are 6 – 8 months.

This prompted Proctor, Minnesota police chief Walt Wobig to send out a call for help:

The Chief says he was told he’d have to wait months, even a year to get more ammo.

“I was really surprised, let’s just put it that way,” said Chief Walt Wobig of the difficulty getting ammunition.

Woberg says that when he asked suppliers for the 1,000 rounds of ammo his officers needed for training, he was told he’d have to wait months.

“I go, ‘Do you have 40–caliber qualification rounds?’ And they go, ‘Well, no. It’s going to take six to eight months [to get them],’” said Wobig of a conversation with a manufacturer.

Retailers say the nationwide shortage is due in part to people stockpiling ammunition in response to recently proposed gun legislation.

“It was getting a little short last fall, so they were already behind, but there definitely is panic,” said Superior Shooters Supply owner, Pat Kukull of the shortage, “We’ve [the store] been here for 35 years and I’ve never seen anything like it.”

With the Proctor Police Department in need of ammunition, the Chief sent out a call asking for help. Who answered? The very people his officers are sworn to protect.

“The citizens were like, ‘If you need something, we got plenty here,’” said Wobig.

A citizen and a Proctor police officer loaned their personal ammunition to the Department, a total of 1,500 rounds. The Chief says others were willing to help too.

“I had several other calls from other citizens that said, ‘Hey, if you need more ammunition we have plenty,’” said Woberg, “I know that if I need ammunition I have citizens out there that will gladly come forward.”

Ammunition shortages are nothing new since gun control proponents have threatened the Second Amendment with multi-faceted legislation on state and federal levels that aims to reduce gun ownership, restrict the exchange of gun accessories, and even targets ammunition as an explosive device that needs to be regulated.

While the media claims that the shortage is due in part to individuals stockpiling larger quantities, it completely fails to mention the stockpiling of multiple billions of rounds by the government itself.

Were these DHS stockpiles being acquired for the protection of Americans and the homeland, wouldn’t it make sense that local police departments around the country should be able to turn to the agency instead of local citizens for help?

Once again, the massive stockpiling by the federal government is suspect. Does the government expect some sort of widespread event that will require this ammunition be brought into service, perhaps like the economic collapse and civil unrest scenarios they’ve been war-gaming? Or, are they, as Senator Jim Inhofe recently suggested, hoarding ammunition intentionally as a way to attack the Second Amendment by reducing availability on the free market?

Defense Distributed is complying, DefCad.org back up after removing file
Adan Salazar
Infowars.com
May 9, 2013

On the Thusday, May 9 edition of the Alex Jones Show, 3D printing guru Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed announced that the US Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance, Enforcement Division (DTCC/END) has sent him a letter requesting the group remove all data from public access immediately.

The letter, issued by the US Department of State, says:
“DTCC/END is conducting a review of technical data made publicly available by Defense Distributed through its 3D printing website, DEFCAD.org, the majority of which appear to be related to items in Category I of the USML. Defense Distributed may have released ITAR-controlled technical data without required prior authorization from the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), a violation of the ITAR.”
USML stands for United States Munitions List, and ITAR stands for the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

According to the letter, “Pursuant to § 127.1 of the ITAR it is unlawful to export any defense article or technical data for which a license or written approval is required without first obtaining the required authorization from the DTCC.

Further in the letter, it lists the 3D printable gun files available through DEFCAD.org that the DTCC says violate the ITAR.

“The Department believes Defense Distributed may not have established the proper jurisdiction of the subject technical data. To resolve this matter officially, we request that Defense Distributed submit Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) determination requests for the following selection of data files available on DEFCAD.org, and any other technical data for which Defense Distributed is unable to determine proper jurisdiction:

1. Defense Distributed Liberator pistol

2. .22 el3ectric

3. 125mm BK-14M high-explosive anti-tank warhead

4. 5.56/.223 muzzle brake

5. Springfield XD-40 tactical slide assembly

6. Sound Moderator – slip on

7. “The Dirty Diane” ½-28 to 3/4-16 STP S3600 oil filter silencer adapter

8. 12 gauge .22 CB sub-caliber insert

9. Voltlock electronic black powder system

10. VZ-58 front sight”

The letter goes on, “Until the Department provides Defense Distributed with final CJ determinations, Defense Distributed should treat the above technical data as ITAR-controlled,” meaning the files must comply with the UN . “This means that all such data should be removed from public access immediately. Defense Distributed should also review the remainder of the data made public on its website to determine whether any additional data may be similarly controlled and proceed according to ITAR requirements.”

Defense Distributed recently garnered major attention after they were able to produce a complete firearm, titled the Liberator, solely using 3D printed parts.
It’s clear that it was this milestone that inspired the Department of State to pursue compliance orders.

The mandate is in line with the United Nations International Arms Control Treaty which has attempted to regulate firearms by exploiting import-export laws. According to Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, the UN’s Small Arms Treaty “is in fact a massive, GLOBAL gun control scheme.”

Here is a List of Anti-Gun Companies

Next time you go to the store or the movie theater, consider that your hard earned dollars may be paying not only for the good or service you buy but also to undermine your Second Amendment rights. Many of these companies actively oppose gun rights by supporting gun control legislation or by opposing legislation that expands gun rights (Volkswagen). Others give generously to anti-gun groups (Ben & Jerry’s) or their executives serve on the boards of anti-gun groups (Disney). Still others, refuse to do business with US gun manufacturers (Bank of America).

We’re not just talking about “No Firearms” signs at the front door, here. These companies are openly hostile to the Second Amendment. When you support these companies by buying their products you subsidize the anti-gun groups that they associate with or help pay the lobbyists and lawyers they hire to fight against your Constitutional liberties.

Volkswagen – Most recently lobbies against legislation to permit employees to keep firearms in their cars at work.

Bank of America – Recently told McMillan Group they no longer wanted their business because they were a firearms company.

Dannon Yogurt – Supports licensing and handgun registration, gave $150,000 to the so-called Million Mom March.

Ben & Jerry’s – Expensive ice cream for the Birkenstock Brigade. Has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Children’s Defense Fund over the years. CDF is an outspoken anti-gun group and fought hard to support the Washington DC gun ban before it was overturned by the Supreme Court in the Heller case.

Sara Lee Corporation – L’eggs panty hose, Hanes underwear, Ball Park franks, and Hillshire Farm smoked sausage. Sounds like a kinky party but it’s really a recipe for funnelling money to the Brady Center to Prevent Handgun Violence.

Levi Strauss Corp. – expensive jeans to pay for gun-control advocacy. Buy Wranglers instead.

Walt Disney Co. – Chaiman/CEO and President both serve on the board of CeaseFire, Inc.

Hasbro – Chairman, Pres. and CEO serves on the board of CeaseFire, Inc. Every action figure and Transformers movie ticket helps fund CeaseFire and other gun control groups.

MTV – Chairman serves on board of CeaseFire Inc. The music and the videos are bad enough. Not only are they trying to corrupt your kids, they want to re-write your Constitution.

Toys-’R-Us – Sells toy guns, but doesn’t want you to have real ones to protect the kids your buy the toys for.

Hyatt Hotels – Overpriced luxury hotel for snobby elitists. They take the extra they scam from you and spend it to advocate disarming you.

7-Eleven – Apparently only the people who rob the 7-Elevens are allowed to have guns.

America Online (AOL) – Remember back when there was dial-up internet? There was this cool service called AOL…you don’t? Me neither.

Hallmark Cards – Roses are red, violets are blue, give me your guns or we’ll take them from you.

Kenneth Cole – Clothing for metrosexual men and unrealistically skinny women, priced with just enough markup to cover the cost of gun-control advocacy.

Kansas City Royals – If they would focus on winning baseball games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck.

Kansas City Chiefs – If they would focus on winning football games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck.

Sprint Corp – First they buy NASCAR, now they want your guns.

Stoneyfield Farms Yogurt – To think I used to buy their yogurt for my daughter. I feel so dirty.

St. Louis Rams – If they would focus on winning football games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck. I’m sensing a pattern here…

Time Warner Inc. – When you have cable, your cable company takes some of your fees and gives it to anti-gun groups. When your cable company gives to anti-gun groups, the anti-gun groups lobby for “sensible gun control”. Switch to DirecTV.

Broderbund Software – Chairman serves on the board of CeaseFire, Inc. I can’t name a single piece of software that they sell, but they must sell enough to give to anti-gun groups.

GAP Inc. – CEO serves on board of CeaseFire, Inc. Overpriced, overhyped clothing marked up to help pay for gun-control advocacy.

Google – The world’s largest online search engine has begun restricting searches for firearms info. If you want to find info on guns for sale online, Google is not a good place to search. I don’t use Google’s search engine at all anymore as a result of this and due to their policy of saving and selling your search info. Try using DuckDuckGo, instead. They don’t collect info on you or restrict your searches.

NBC - Bob Costas’ anti-gun rant in December 2012 on Sunday Night Football caused quite a stir and was commented on here. Costas would not have been allowed to vent his personal opinion if it were not okay with management and he suffered no ill effects from the outcry his comments caused. His statements were not isolated, though. Back in April 2012 the news division ran a hit piece on Remington arms, suggesting that their shotguns are defective, citing just 125 incidents in over 40 years. The story featured a paid “expert” whose experience is to serve as an expert witness in lawsuits against gun manufacturers. The expert attacked a Remington shotgun with a sledgehammer on video, trying to make it go off, but could not. But that did not stop them from suggesting that there should be a Federal agency with the authority to force a recall of “defective” firearms.
