Default Does this make my rifle obsolete and useless?

I can't help but feel that all Afghanistan and Iraq really are, are field proving grounds for weapons and tactics that will ultimately be used on me (us).

Not sure what to think about this, or what can be done to counter it....

Well, clearly the OTHER side has to change tactics as well.

Now instead of just popping up, they will have to raise the steel manhole cover, fire, and pop back down, pulling the cover over them as the same time. Allow the XM25 round to come in....stay down a while to fool the US side into thinking they got you, then pop back up again with a surprise shot.

Yup. We spent billions, I am sure, developing it. Now, the insurgency merely changes tactics. This is a "counterfire" technology, you neutralize it by denying the opportunity to counterfire in a predictable and timely manner. First of all, it sounds like it is totally useless against moving targets that are changing range. Is there a prox fuse capability? Or is it just "flight time then boom"? If it's "flight time then boom" it is a complete waste and I wouldn't want one. Insurgencies live and die on movement. Shoot (from cover) then move. Even if the thing automagically ranges whatever is in the center of the sight, while you're spending a second or two acquiring and range finding I am gone. That is, of course, unless you're willing to risk collateral damage by firing without proper target acquisition first. Can you kill people with this thing? Hell yes.

    Wonderweapon my ass.

    bad boy stuff...

Anything that is printed on this page is purely fictional, and is in the context of an alternate virtual reality in a parallel universe. I, myself, am a fictional character! Any statements which appear to have a resemblance to real people or institutions or events, past, present or future, are unintentional and the result of pure coincidence.

Proud of my tin-foil hat - this is pride of something EARNED (I'm a self-made "nut"!) - and anything I may say should be taken in this context!

25mm round? Just how many do you think a soldier would carry?

How many rounds does the typical insurgent carry?

A person with basic pack/belt accessories can easily carry 300+ rounds of 223... if your are only loaded for bear, much more than that.

May be able to carry 50 25mm??

Useful for fighting a squad against 1 or 2 insurgents holed up in a shack somewhere, but for basic mayhem it seems pretty useless.

    $30K each

500,000 combat troops (not to be confused with support elements).

    12,500 weapons

    =

? years from now, when you decide to take on a platoon sized element of high speed, low-drag grunts, yes, your rifle will be obsolete.

But until that time, you and your rifle will be just fine for dealing with multitudes of roaming Zombies.

Even if these weapons were never deployed, going toe to toe against a military element supported by Satcoms, drones, and deep pockets, would be tantamount to a suicide mission.

This will be like the M14. One guy in the unit will be trained and equipped with it. With a system weight of 14 pounds it not going to be the most popular weapon to carry. And yes, your weapons are now obsolete and ineffective (please send them to me to dispose of them)

Which is why no insurgency ever goes toe to toe with a modern army. Which is why ten years in Iraq will soon be proven to be a complete failure. Which is why Afghanistan is called the graveyard of empires.

Not only that, but guns and butter is right now being revealed as a false, undeliverable promise made by central bankers.

Oh, and wait for the inevitible when we lose a few on the field. Seem to recall VC didn't have much of a problem getting M-16's. Heck, Mex cartels have no apparent problem with getting rocket launchers.
I think Murphy is going to have fun with the new rig. At the same time I really hope it helps our soldiers stay safer.

You beat me too it! Also can you image a better anti-chopper weapon? Think of a fellow on the ground with one of these and a few choppers within range. They wouldn't have a chance.

Time will tell, as the round works with a radio controll signal (programs the round) and chip that is located in the round, I suspect "enemies" may find a way to defeat electronically the programming frequency and further,as it has a chip, EMP devices should fry it.

Answer? Patriots outnumber standing troops 100 to 1.. if they turn these things on us, someone shoot the mercenary goon carrying the newfangled grenade launcher and take it from him

Reality check.. since it's over .50 caliber and has an exploding warhead, mere civilians will not be allowed this weapon. Maybe a semi auto version with non exploding projectile.. with NFA paperwork and price tag of $25,000 +
