I switched a good portion of Gold to Silver at 60 to 1 down to 50 to 1. I played it safe.

This guy can't read a chart. Pull up a weekly and have a good look, this has room to move. On the daily we look due for, and indeed have begun, a pause but it is holding remarkably well so far. No doubt the debt ceiling thing is playing into that but I suspect the effect is not that great. I don't think the markets truly believe that a risk of default is really on the table, it is not reflected in the charts at all. Most pundits I see are calling for the traditional soft summer, last summer didn't really play ball on that front, and really, what is so different this year? So far its a carbon copy in most respects accepting the US debt thing which appears to be being ignored for the theater that it is! My call is that they settle the debt ceiling issue, gold and silver get a little whack as the thugs move in on the opportunity then that is it, things move on in anticipation of QEIII. I don't think Ben really wants to see QE taken as a given so I expect he will play chicken with the markets on that one and hold out to Sep/Oct +, that should be enough to have Wall St nervy and soft (very?!) then it is Ben to the rescue with election shots all round! My call is a rally in most things (not bonds?!) then sharp correction on a QEIII bluff then we "main line the good chit" and fly into the elections on a magic carpet on newly minted USD. IMO the look out period is 2013, maybe very late 2012. The market is looking for a happy story here, its election time, it would be like Santa not showing up! Obama needs his sugar and I defy Ben not to give it to him!

Zed Hulbert only measures sentiment. We could go either way here I think long term we go up but there could be some short term pain. So far the old top 1575 has held the break in Gold Silver is now running up against the 50% of the range 50-32.

We all know you don't 'make' money until you sell; however, we do understand that your friend was excited about his recent increase in wealth.

The thing is, his value didn't increase $10K.

Not figuring in premiums (either buying or selling):

$50K of Silver at $35/oz gets you 1,428.57 ounces of Silver.
1,428.57 ounces of Silver at $40.50 has a value of $57,857.14 for an increase of $7,857.14.

Now, lets add in some premiums, shall we?

Let's say he bought Eagles at $3 over. That comes out to $38 per ounce. Now, let's say he sold at $1 under, which would be at $39.50.

Profit = $1,973.68

Still, that's a damn good gain (almost 4%) in a very short period of time on a $50K investment, but it isn't 'making $10K'.

Seems clear that as long as we rally in the metals that the GSR isn't going to go up much if at all. Next big bop I plan on moving a bit into the shiny stuff. Tough to let go of the yellow though.

IMO there really are too many variables within a ratio like the GSR to use it in isolation, you really need to be looking and the price charts and general background if you are going to make a good call.

Silver at its current price hasn't doubled in the past 2 years but at 50? Silver was 10 bucks November 2008. Even a gold bug like me has to give Silver its due. If I didn't have a storage problem I would own a bunch and will buy once the ratio pops. Ratio made a new low on this latest leg I would think 20-1 is definitely doable long term maybe lower.
