    Default Anyone regret buying gold?

What I mean is do you regret not using that same money to buy silver instead? I imagine people who bought platinum feel worse.

    Why worry about the past?

The question that matters is: "What are you going to do now?"

I know this really pains the hard core silver bugs, but an oz of silver still will not buy you a hooker nor blow.

An oz of gold will buy you BOTH.!~

I just don't get the hate silver fans have for gold fans. The chest thumping is a little tiring. Gold had its run up (with more to come IMO). Sure it is not a flash and bang meteoric rise over a months time, but you could have made the same arguments for gold back then that you make for silver now (ie should have put your $$ in Au not Ag).

Let me one up you Rusty and say I should have put that 50K copper money into silver. Maybe NOT and maybe gold will go parabolic. They are ALL good so we have to realize we are the smartest 1% of the populace that own PM'S.

Maybe it's just gold envy. A bit of middle child syndrome. You never hear, "go for the silver", do you?

I don't regret a gram of any metal that I have bought. I purchased the 'other three' for various reasons, but primarily for diversity and secondarily as a hobby. The Soviet Palladium Ballerina was a 'must buy' when I came across it along with a Palladium Maple. The Isle of Man Platinum piece was another 'must buy' piece. I have paid spot for all of my 'other metals' so I feel as though I received fair market value for them. My Gold acquisitions are from various parts of the world: France, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Canada, the UK, and the US.

Also, it is easier to carry around the more precious metals than Silver if such an occasion for the need to 'move out' arises.

No sir, I don't regret one gram of any metal that I've purchased. My only regret is that I didn't buy more.

    Alright, I'll play.

First, I have a strong position in silver as well as gold. Some of that gold was bought long enough ago that it HAS outpaced most of the silver I own. A little of my silver was bought long enough ago that it's outpaced even my most ancient and cheapest gold acquisitions. But, the values involved do not compare, even if the percentages do.

Second, let's look at TSHTF scenario that's a topic of popular discussion on GIM. If TSHTF tomorrow, and it manifests itself like many 20th century SHTF's, my family is on the move. I'm not talking Mad Max, tents, camper stoves and zombies. I'm talking "the situation where we are is untenable and it's time to exit for more palatable governance." We'll be carrying ALL of our gold, but will be forced to leave a lot of silver behind if we can't trade it first.

So, no, I don't regret owning gold. Nor do I regret owning silver. I can, however, see how I'd regret copper if all I could do is sit on it or take a big loss on the premium paid if I tried to convert it.

Maples @ $550, no regret... and no worry about a big dump ahead... Gold won't go to zero, and has no carrying cost (as does real estate, for instance)... and a lot fits in one pocket...

Good to diversify in PMs... Glad I didn't try rhodium when it was at $10k, though...

Man, I've got rolls of nickels I don't regret buying.....and stack of brass with little lead plugs in the ends of them I don't regret buying.

In fact, about the ONLY thing I ever regreting buying was a service contract from Sears one time on a freezer we bought there. Now THAT was a worthless POS......but even it taught me to say 'ell no when they start on that "and we can offer you a service contract on your new blacksmith anvil that will cover any loss or damage to it for the next 3 years for only....blah blah blah..."

So I guess there is value in about everything, even IF it's just a lesson on "don't do stupid stuff on a regular basis".

Only reason I have gold is because I walked into my dealers shop one day planning on buying 100oz of silver, and he was plum out of stock.

But he had a deal on four, 1/2 oz Sunshine rounds at spot +$10 per round if you bought all four. So I did.

Later I picked up a few Maples when I decided to diversify a bit. Paid spot +$30/oz at the time.

There are times when I wish it was all in silver, but given our dollars performance in this past year, down ~16% in the past 14 months, I'm happy to have ANY PMs at all!

To answer the question..No I don't regret buying Gold, and I don't regret buying Silver..Over the years I had tried to invest in different things, only to pull the money out and use it for something else (a large debt that came in, that sort of thing) I was bitten by the gold and silver bug back in the 1980's it was the one thing, that I took the time to learn about, and never lost the joy of owning the metals..5yrs ago, I was retired for reason be on my control and noticed that I had not prepared for my later years..so I decided to start building up and putting away for what everyone calls the golden years..My only regret is I didn't start doing it sooner..

this is a self defeating mentality.

if you own a portfolio of 20 stocks, do you figure out which one has the best return as of today and have regrets about buying the other 19?

i have some of both. i keep gold because of the FOFOA freegold angle. I am thankful to have stood on the shoulders of gold bugs - it was their rationale for real money that persuaded me to buy silver.

    Ha! Love the doorstop!

Best thing about it is, with all the talk about how to hide your stash from thieves, you've found the perfect solution. What burglar is going to steal a doorstop? (might want to flip it over to the blank side, though)

I throw 10oz silver bars at my wife whenever she gets too whiney or bitchy. Every once in a while, it goes through the drywall and lands inside the wall. Then I have to go out and buy more bars.

Long story short, I wish I threw more bars at my wife.

Gold is pretty. If I was a zillionaire I would buy gold and throw it around just to fondle it some, not caring about the $/oz. But not being a zillionaire I wish I had bot all 90% or ASE's. But non of us knows...it is all a crap shoot.

Actually blow is much cheaper now than it was back in the 80's, or even the 90's so an ounce of Ag can buy you blow. An ounce of Ag can also buy you a hooker, but for $50 she's going to be a little rough around the edges (think crazy catlady from the Simpsons).

In a couple years, it may work out, cu that is. I just had to hedge after my real estate debacle as EVEN I can't see this silver bull doubling annually forever.
I DID buy the cheapest investment grades out there at least.

No regrets, Gold did great and Silver did better, I wish I had bought more of either. I just wish I wasn't a lousy sailor...

Oh bull$hit Irons...you need to get down here to the hood more often!!! Just the other night, one of my security guys at a factory we're knockin' down in the "D" told me he was offerrred a BJ for $3, and she was giving him the "hard sale" saying $hit like: "How the HELL yous gonna say no to a three dollar blow job?!?!"

He also gets offerred crack at a very reasonable rate. I am sure for $46, you could be passed out in a gutter, pants around yer ankles with your blistered, puss infested pecker hangin' out and one hell of a haze while still having a few extra rocks left in yer pocket to enjoy later. Heck, you might even have a few bucks left over to get yer teeth pulled from all that "bonus" meth you could get too!!!

    $hit homey...it's all good....

But if you had bought the same $ amount of silver instead of gold you could hire two hookers and buy even more blow!
