    Default Help with Joomla!

    Hi,

We're using Joomla! for our "Articles" page and we're having some trouble with documents submitted in certain formats. Users of Joomla! will be familiar with the formatting challenges in the articles manager.

Even when we convert to .txt we still have some problems with formatting and even sometimes the articles mess up the formatting of the whole page!

What I'm wondering is if there is a software product that can take a document in, say, Microsoft Word and convert it so it is prepared to be accepted by Joomla! and published with all the intended formatting intact?

    Thanks in advance.

    Vike,

I've used Joomla for about 4 years for a couple of corporate intranets I edit and administer..

Which version of Joomla are you using? I'm running 1.5.23. I see no need to rush to update to 1.6.

For my sites, all I ever do is remove the HTML formatting (bold, fonts, lists, heading styles, etc) from the article and paste in the unformatted HTML text, or as you say even the plain txt text. Then I edit the formatting within Joomla.

Note that MS Word documents are loaded with proprieatary crap from MS and they almost never convert cleanly to HTML.

Otherwise, if you are having formatting problems, I suspect it is in the Joomla CSS for your article pages.

Also, which HTML editor within Joomla are you using? Some of them are very flaky and they can do some bizarre things. I finally settled on JCE. It is a total dog, but at least it is predictable and there are workarounds for all the problems.

I am not much of a CSS expert, but dozens of such gurus hang out at the Joomla forums. http://forum.joomla.org/ They are usually very helpful (if you grovel and are nice to them).

    Thanks, Phideaux.

Actually, I'm so ignorant, I don't know which version I'm using and won't be able to find out until tomorrow.

    More tomorrow.

Joomla is very buggy, so it is important to keep up with all the patches as they are issued.
