just noticed the hiker on the GC coin today
My GRAND CANYON came today the FACE of Washinton on the back (turned over of course) was a BIG FIVE lines across it.
Where is the OBAMINATION quality Control?
I sent iT (POS) back - in the same damn box.
The folks there are BLIND or don't give a flying crap!
Just RANTING!![]()

my GC almost made to the floor when I was prying the damn thing out of the box.....almost had a heart attack over a quarter!!!

Info on another site indicates there are GC's without the vapor blast. PL surface. Could be more of the poor QC but could turn into a big deal if there are a number of them that way.
So far I have only been disappointed in the Yosemite coin. My coin has a small nick just on the head, next to his sideburn. I scanned all the coins and that's the only real blemish I could find.

Did anyone else get a mislabeled sleeve for their Grand Canyon coin? Mine on the outside bottom sleeve has the NP3 Yosemite sticker.

Yeah, saw that on the bullion coin, it is a pretty cool design overall. Being "old" I can't see it on the quarter (and I still don't wear reading glasses); the design was obviously made to be seen in the larger size. Haven't got my "P" version yet, and I'm praying that Mrs.Old is not home when it arrives....(NO, I'm not buying any silver or gold at all any more dear..too expensive).

So GC now has a ship date of 7/21. But today is only 7/14. Are we nearing a sellout? Though no mention of a waiting list yet.
I was thinking about these first 2010 'P' coins and I believe that the Hot Springs coin could be the one to have. This is the one that sold out the fastest and some people didn't jump on these right away and now the price is starting to go up a little. I checked some finished auctions tonight and they range from $340-$380. Pretty good I think. No other 'P' mint coin is selling in that range....yet.

The market is absolutely flooded with ATB's by ebay flippers of the 2010-P's. Unless you have grade SP70, you will lose money with ATB'Ps on ebay.
Here is a list of completed sales. Why is it flooded?

Yep, a boat load of them.

Interesting, though. In the latest sales of the Hot Springs coin (sp70), it is the only one to consisently break $600. Yes, a few others break $600, but more often it is Hot Springs. Also interesting is how low you can pay for an sp70 of the others.
Good. Mt. Hood comes out next week.
When the "no sale" auctions are removed it looks like a total a 38 sp69's sold over a 2 week period.....hardly "a glut"
I guess the word "glut" is a relative term but I submit that final bid price would be much higher if there weren't so many available. So for your benefit, I just say supply is greater than demand for the time being. Maybe price will improve as the flippers wear out but the real proof of in the pudding will come when the 2011-P's come to market.
Question: Is the mint mandated to strike a minimum of 27,000 for each National Park of the collector's version "P"?
I don't think anyone has found any indication as to what the mintage of the 2011's will be. But I hope it's more than the current 27k. It's been a real pain to have to sign for the 1st 4. And they won't let anyone else sign for it. If I miss the delivery man, I have to drive 10 miles to the depot to pick it up. If this continues in 2011, I'll pass on the series. Too much trouble.
Storing these things is a pain. Probably end up with one bullion set and one P set (2010 only) and move back to one ounce rolls.

Kinda regretting starting these things. So far I have 2010-2011 bullion and 2010 P set. The premium on the P's are very high, and with the amount spent on these so far I could have had a lot more bullion. Part of me wants to have two complete sets, but on the other hand I could accumulate a lot more silver than pay the heavy premiums.

Those must be the culls they didn't think would grade - not showing a close up. That being said, I got a graded Vicksburg 69 DMPL from them for $299. Prices falling for sure!
WoWzErS this is BIG news considering the Yosemite is still available from the mint. I'm still going to order one of the next one, but if the premiums don't fall on the 2011 versions then I'll probably pass on the line altogether. Of course if silver spikes again then all bets are off as the premium decreases.
Yes, it does. It looks like MCM doesn't see a long future in ATB's and is dumping stock. I'll bet their buy price for an ogp ATB is pretty low if there even is one anymore. They offered me a significant premium for my NP1 & NP2 coins a few weeks back (I decided to keep them). I bet that offer is toast now.
5 oz. in MS or SP:
I'm wondering if the falling prices mean the popularity is diving because of the size, cost, slab size, and such?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
I also wonder if they'll be MINTED in 2012-2031? For several reasons especially supply.
Be careful out there; IT is a jungle.
Some interesting questions. They will probably be minted in 2012 and so on, but popularity will die. Mintages may be reduced below, whatever the number is, since no one knows yet. The 2010 may eventually be the highest mintage of the series, like the early spouses were. Then people will melt them and then we will have a silver spouse story.
As for slabbing, double the cost of the coin for an sp70 vs an sp69 is ludricrous. Wait a few years, an sp70 will be cheaper. mho
Too much speculation on these pushed the prices up early. But it's a fine way to have physical bullion or buy the highest grades, MS or SP to collect, imo.
Not sure how you are so sure popularity will die? The potential collectors for this series are just becoming aware they exist. It took some time for the state quarters program to get rolling. The circulating quarter versions of these are just now getting into circulation. I see a potential for a very large collector base and the scenerio going completly opposite of the one you lay out. Time will tell and I"m certainly not saying there is any gaurantee of popularity but many driving forces not found in the gold spouse series. Prior to the series how many people could even give the name of one of the spouses? Dang sure bet most folks know all about the Grand Canyon.
I do agree the price of the 70's will come down. I'm not a buyer at current prices for sure.
It's a theory, everybody has one, that was mine. Yes, time will tell, and frankly, I hope I'm wrong. But I'm thinking....
1. multiple year series (loses interest)
2. high cost (yes it's not gold, but high cost for the silver collector vs a 1oz SAE)
3. hard to store (7ft tall column x 5.4" x 5.4") or 2 boxes 11" x 11" x 11".
4. Future, more interesting issues. (I don't even know some of these parks exist).
5. Who has a complete set of collector SAE's? (no one I know, they all go for the bullion version).
I compared the collector ATB's to the spouses, as the spouses started out with a bang, and are now limping along. And who cared about a presidential spouse before that issue? And who cares now? Not many by the mintages coming from the mint.
(don't mind me, I having a boring day at work)

I had no desire to collect this series, did not even know these forums existed. It started out just trying to get a 2010 set on a lark - curiosity. Then the chase for sets got to be a game, etc. But once I looked at the coins, the dmpls, they kind of awed me, and each park has it's own merits/details. Who knows if it catches on with general population, but I'd say there's a good possibility because if a non-collector is considering it, who else might?
Quite a stir going on over the light finish/no finish on the Grand Canyons. MCM had some graded by NGC as light finish. Not of interest to me but it sure has created a stir.

Meanwhile, the Mint has announced that not at all 2011 P numismatic versions will be sold this year but has not given a reason for the delay, specified which 2011 coins will be delayed until next year, or announced mintage levels for the 2011 coins. I think it would really help collectors if the Mint would be more forthcoming about details of the 2011 program, especially after releasing so many ATB’s at once which depressed demand and prices. Collectors need to be able to plan and budget for all these coin purchases, especially during a year when their budgets have taken such a heavy toll.
Rising silver prices seem to have spurred some renewed interest, but there is no question that demand has declined for these coins. If the 2011 P mintages are higher than 27,000, as many expect, demand for the collector versions will be in jeopardy, and I am not sure I will collect them. I may opt to continue the bullion set instead, depending on what happens to silver, and will not have them graded after a recent bad experience. But it is possible to get some good deals on already graded examples including MS69 and MS69 PL/DMPL coins for small premiums over raw coins.
