Gold Eagle for two tubes of Silver Eagles?

I was thinking about suggesting a deal to my local dealer but just wondered what you guys think of the deal.
I wanted to trade a 1oz Gold American Eagle MS69 for two rolls of silver Eagles.
Is this a fair deal or will the dealer be offended by this offer?

I suppose it would depend on your local dealer and his mood but I would be inclined to say he wouldn't go for it.

I may not be looking at this correctly so I'll throw this out and someone who has more experience in doing trades can correct me. You and I will both learn.

I looked at the price APMEX will pay you for your GAE. Then the price they are selling 40 SAEs for. The two prices don't match. You could get about 37.8 SAE for the price they will give you for the GAE.

If your dealer won't go two tubes of SAEs for your GAE then offer him your GAE plus $100 cash and see if he will.

The premiums on the Silver Eagles are the kicker. My flawed logic was it might be easier for him to sell the gold Eagle than two rolls of silver Eagles.

They may do it to get rid of the silver, no dealers around here are hanging onto any silver and send it out as soon as they lock in a price.

I hit a high note of buffoonery yesterday. I turned down a beautiful uncirculated 1 oz Krugerrand for $1535 from my coin guy.

Dealers in my neck of the woods would rather have ASE's over just about anything else. The only time the guys I hit ever seem to have eagles is when I have them in my hand to trade or sell. They just don't last long around here...

I wouldn't make the trade until the GSR hits 50+, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of portfolio balancing every now and then. Still given silvers decline this past month I would wait just a tad longer to trade any Au towards Ag. It looks like Ag might head a little lower even still so the ratio will most likely improve.
