another thread about a black guy defending himself and knocking the guy out with one punch lead me to the the articles source and this website is seriously troubling with their views.
i'm sure the bar exist and the story is true, and i'm glad people like this get the snot knocked out of them once in a while... but on a whim, i looked at the SPLC link. i know there are quite a few anti right wing publications out there, but this doesnt even make sense....
"HATE WATCH: keeping an eye on the radical right" how are the two connected? what does being a right-winger have to do with racists, skinheads and hatred? that's one hell of a blanket statement. i consider myself a conservative when it comes to small government, monitary policy and upholding the constitution, preserving freedoms...At the same time, i have no issue with gay rights, pro-choice, avoiding foriegn entanglements and keeping the gov out of our private lives. despite these views, i'd likely be labeled an extremist right winger.
when it comes to political views, our media has the sheeple dumbed down to the point where complex issues and ideologies are broadly painted with a black and white brush. libertarians, conservatives and those leaning to the right are always viewed as heartless antisemetic racist homophobes and recently, terrorists who hate america.
i'm in a position where i often speak with liberal democrats and this seems to be the consensus, but it plays both ways. born again republicans and democrats seem to put on blinders and embrace willfull ignorance to support their team. almost as if it's a sports game rivalry. you get your team hat and pin, cheer on the mascots and smear the other team withought any critical thinking.
much like a train wreck, i had to look through the rest of that site and it's not pretty. apperently, we're all terrorists.
oath keepers, sov citizens, militia groups, sound money advocates...
heres a fine example:

"The strange subculture of the sovereign citizens movement, whose adherents hold truly bizarre, complex antigovernment beliefs, has been growing at a fast pace since the late 2000s. Sovereigns believe that they — not judges, juries, law enforcement or elected officials — get to decide which laws to obey and which to ignore, and they don't think they should have to pay taxes. Sovereigns are clogging up the courts with indecipherable filings and when cornered, many of them lash out in rage, frustration and, in the most extreme cases, acts of deadly violence, usually directed against government officials."
Tactics
The weapon of choice for sovereign citizens is paper. A simple traffic violation or pet-licensing case can end up provoking dozens of court filings containing hundreds of pages of pseudo-legal nonsense. For example, a sovereign was involved in 2010 in a protracted legal battle over having to pay a dog-licensing fee. She filed 10 sovereign documents in court over a two-month period and then declared victory when the harried prosecutor decided to drop the case. The battle was fought over a three-year dog license that in Pinellas County, Fla., where the sovereign lives, costs just $20. Tax cases are even worse. Sovereign filings in such legal battles can quickly exceed a thousand pages. While a normal criminal case docket might have 60 or 70 entries, many involving sovereigns have as many as 1,200. The courts are struggling to keep up, and judges, prosecutors and public defenders are being swamped."

Echoing a common belief within the antigovernment “Patriot” movement, these sites assert that the coins (they call them “rounds”) will retain their value because they’re made from precious metals — unlike the paper money issued by the U.S. Federal Reserve that many Patriots view as worthless. “It is critical to you, your family, and your community that you protect your purchasing power from the continually devaluing dollar,” states the Silver Source Northwest website.
But be warned: To buy these coins, you’ll still need plenty of greenbacks, also known as U.S. Federal Reserve notes (FRNs, in the contemptuous language of many on the radical right).

The price of gold has skyrocketed in the past year, due to the fact that so many political commentators have been hawking it as a “safe investment”.

All terrorists are animated by a belief that they’re serving a higher purpose, and the Oath Keepers no doubt think that their dedication to the Constitution makes them ‘freedom fighters.’ To understand why they’re common terrorists waiting to happen, one needs only to grasp the single most important, bedrock principle upon which the whole Constitution was built: the separation of the powers. The founders understood that it was the most important wall against tyranny. One hopes that every school-kid gets the whole checks-and-balances thing.
Oath Keepers don’t. They’re not pledging to uphold the Constitution as interpreted by the judicial branch. Every cop and member of the military, including non-wing-nuts, are tasked with that enterprise, at least in theory. They are saying that they will violently uphold their own interpretations of what is and is not Constitutional, or the interpretations of Michelle Bachmann or Rush Limbaugh.
it goes on and on and it's just sickening.
