Default Liners needed for Navy Garbage Cans for water storage

I have three world war 2 navy galvanized garbage cans. They are tapered and larger than a 30 gallon can. I want to put some sort of plastic liner in them and fill them full of water. Any ideas what I could use for a liner?

Water is bulky and heavy to store.

Plus, whatever plastic you store it in will leach some sort of chemical over time into the water, which can't be good.

I'd get something like a Big Berkey water purifier. Or just buy the replacement filters and a couple 5 gallon food grade buckets and make your own for pretty cheap.

Health is important if the SHTF. And something like a Berkey will give you clean water no matter what. Anything you have stored will not be as good as what a Berkey can do.

Also, don't forget most water heaters store 40-50 gallons and the water from your water heater is very sterile. ...Although there might be some rust on the bottom, when you go to drain it.

I'd just go with the Berkey and forget about it.

Looks like a food grade 30Gal water storage barrels are only about $50 and a reconditioned (previously used) 55Gal barrel for $40

(I just picked this place at random)

But if you want to line the garbage cans, I could suggest a Twin size mattress bag, that should be big enough. You can cut down the extra. However that plastic might leach chemicals into the water over time, they might not be food safe. I'm not sure if a filter would remove the plastic chems or not, probably depends on the filter.

A better idea might be to get water storage bag or bladders. Those are food safe and won't leach.
These are made to put in a bathtub and hold 65gal, but a large can would probably be fine too.

Thanks guys I guess it was not a good idea. I think I will use the plastic food grade 55 gallon barrels and store water in them. I have been using these three usn garbage cans for 30 years. for storing food blankets and such outside. They never leaked or rusted. I guess the navy got what they paid for during world war 2.
