Default 1945 2.5 Mexican peso gold coins

Directtv has a number of sales channels running coin shows. Most of them seem to be selling Morgan silver dollars for big bucks. I channel surfed on to one with a Jimmy Somebody selling 2.5 gold pesos for $119 plus shipping and handling. They are supposed to be 10th oz. coins at 90% gold. That didn't sound like too bad a price. Of course, they could charge a massive fee for shipping and handling. I wondered what the board thought. Is this guy actually an honest dealer?

Thumbs up Re: 1945 2.5 Mexican peso gold coins

Easy to remember, 50 Peso = 1.2057 Troy ounces devided by 50 = 0.024114 per peso. Dos Peso = 0.04822, Dos y media = 0.06028 and so forth, I love my Pesos.

My local coin guy has these little fellas for $63 each right now, looked to have around 20 of them.
He also had around the same number of the one size bigger 2 1/2 Peso for $80.
I should bring a couple of 1 oz eagles in and clean him out of fractionals!!

on the other side I'm in SoCal so I'm figuring out that Mexican old coins and bullion are almost as good as ours. Of course only under spot; I'll suffer from withdrawal next month when Bing goes away

    I see

    mexican 50 peso
    mexican 20 peso
    mexican 10 peso
    mexican 5 peso
    mexican 2.5 peso

listed in my inventory I love the 20 pesos with the SUNDIAL on them too

and the HUGE GRANDE 50 Peso piece is rather nice too. I imagine when gold hits

$2000 this year they'll bring over $2500 each too...

Buy the LITTLE ones the ounces are getting too expensive
Be careful out there; IT is a jungle.

For anyone wanting information on gold coins, there is a dealer in the UK called tax free gold (google it) that has an enormous database of about every gold coin (w/pics). Whenever I see something on ebay that I have little knowledge in I go there. A bit hard to navigate at first. I've been slowly print screening and pasting onto a spread sheet the information I find whenever I go there. Good self education and fascinating. I also recently went to the library and found a huge book on about every gold coin ever made. Let me tell you, there has been a s-load of gold coins made over history. I had no idea there was that many.

I recently picked up the book, Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins, 6th Edition. George S. Cuhaj, Ed, Thomas Michael, Market Analyst. Outstanding book, not cheap though. I will agree with Rollie, Tax Free is a good site as well as 24 Carat.

love my 2.5 gold peso...would've grabbed another today, but i promised my friend's son 2 SAE's, and if HE was getting two, then so was I, right??

had $100, paid $80, and of course THEN i saw the 2.5 peso for $75.

didn't have the heart to tell the kid he had to sell back his first silver at a loss. lol

p.s. this thread will probably have me driving past there again tomorrow...something about 1.878 grams is fun.
