Default Right to bear arms... and shoot foot...

Sounds like there are several "errors of judgement" in this tale...

Paraplegic hunter shoots himself in foot with crossbow, becomes pinned to ATV

John C. Champion, 21, was injured Sunday evening while he was hunting from his Polaris Ranger in the Fiber Factory Hunt Club, a private hunt club, according to a press release from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Champion, who is a paraplegic, was hunting alone when he attempted to cock his crossbow and accidentally fired the bolt through his left foot, pinning his foot to the floor of the Ranger, investigators said.

    BIG OUCH!

After trying unsuccessfully to free his foot, he then tried to drive out, but became stuck on some brush.

I can't feel too sorry for the guy, because honestly he deserved it. You cock a crossbow first, then you load it. You don't try to cock it and load it at the same time for precisely this reason.

Yupp, as a guy who has a few different crossbows i gotta say just three things. 1. Cock crossbow and apply safety if it has one. 2. Remove foot from cocking stirrup!! 3. Insert bolt.
