The QE lag is some what 6-9 months . So figure they'll do something early fall maybe, so next year (election) everything is rosy. Till then I'd be cautious.

The major danger here is a short covering rally in the USD. Short the USD has to be about the most crowed trade there is, crowded and leveraged. If something where to upset the markets expectation there we will see a rally, the initial phases of that rally will impact all commodities and PM's. If I where Ben I would look to set off that market potential before I announced QEIII, it would check all the short term boxes, lower commodities, lower PM's etc etc. It looks to me like we have seen a concerted effort to achieve this with as much spin fed into the news over the last month or two as I can remember.

Kind of but that was a carry trade driven synthetic short, I think we are more talking a shorter term, smaller, trading correction. I don't see that we have built up the fuel for 2008 again, I see a number of things that I think are different. Plus it looks to me like the stock market has gone about as far south as they will want to see, the problem being that commodities have not gone far enough south for them! I think Ben is a little snookered here FWIW. If a squeeze is set off it will be interesting to see what moves and what doesn't! Anyway, I 'm just pointing out the potential here... the USDX could put a lid on things for the first part of the summer if it gets up off the canvas...last time, if memory serves, gold reacted then went with.... so?!
