Goldman Tells Clients To Buy COMEX Gold At $1,364.2, Raises 12 Month Gold Forecast From $1,365 To $1,650, Silver To $27.60

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/12/2010 08:39 -0500

Alarm bells are ringing everywhere as Goldman (which joins UniCredit in boosting its gold price target) may have just picked the short-term top in gold, after it revised its 12 month target from $1,365 to $1,650. And while David Greely's track record is nowhere near as atrocious as that of Goldman's FX team which manages to top tick the EURUSD every single time, the fact that Goldman is now opening Long Gold recommendations (to go with its current trading recommendations of long Corn, Copper, Platinum and WTI) is reason for big worry. Recall which bank was getting its clients to go all in in crude 2008 when oil was $140+. We would be very cautious when Goldman is on "your" side of the trade. Nonetheless, the firm is pretty much spot on "We believe that a return to quantitative easing will act as a strong catalyst to carry gold prices to even higher levels."

Goldman starts a little early... they where bullish oil into $100... then called, hmmmm , summin silly like $200 as we broke $100. They like to get some runs on the board before the top, makes them look OK and sucks more weak longs into play for the final short party late this year or early next year.

Soooooooo accordingly, if we see them lift the target to POG 2K... be afraid, very afraid and tighten those stops up to tighty whitey tight!

we will probably see a correction when interest rates rise and DC returns to sane monetary policy. covering leveraged short positions must be a major pain in the ass today. thanks for the chartwork hawk. long EXK silver stock, long physical metal in possession.

Hey does anyone know if title companies are publicly traded?

If so, got any tickers? I've been looking for them, but haven't
    located any.

The reason I ask is it might become a 'golden' opportunity to
short the heck out of them when the mortgage mess gets going
and they have to cover their losses.

    Thinking out the box....

    Great! Thx Hawk.

I found some more using that one

According to Armstrong, $1440 to $1480 is the primary trend line. If we break that, we have explosive move up in gold price. For anyone who has not read Mr. A, then he had also mentioned that agriculture is getting interesting.

That is novel, approaching a trendline from BELOW! I'd be calling it a channel top or summin like that, typically a trend is considered a baseline.

How much more has the USD got in the tank...? Do you reckon we get 80...? I think we have a chance of stalling out sooner. There looks to me to be some mid channel static. Going to be an interesting session.

I reckon we should pull up around RSI/STO 50 if things don't get to ugly to fast with this whole mortgage gate thing... or anything else you crazy yanks might have in store! Its a bull trend after all... you normally tend to cycle in the top half of the momentum indicators ranges in that case.

    <hr style="color: rgb(204, 204, 204);" size="1"> Where can we find 20,000 tonnes of gold?

Having broken out convincingly into new high ground, gold and silver have now paused for breath. Despite the sharpness of this week’s reaction, their performance indicates good underlying strength.

This is not to say there is no speculative froth – of course there is. Rather, speculators play a distant second fiddle in this market. Bullion is still doing what it has been doing for the last year: when the commercials on Comex hit the price it backs off rapidly on little volume, until someone very big takes the opportunity to clean the market out. It becomes another ratchet on the torturer’s rack for the commercial shorts, who find that every time this happens they end up being stretched further.

On last week’s rise there were early signs of panic, as the commercials attempted to reduce their exposure. However, the commercials’ net short position on Comex is still a very high 933 tonnes. Convention suggests that the commercials know best, and even if they have an extreme position, they will still crush you. And indeed, the big commercials, being too big to fail and with the comfort of the Fed’s antipathy to gold, could increase their short positions even further. This is now developing into the biggest game of chicken the markets will probably ever see.......

...But what must have really got under the skin of the BIS is that it knows the real value of bullion is considerably in excess of the market price. It knows gold is underpriced, because the BIS and its senior members have been suppressing the price for the last forty years, which has resulted in an acute shortage of stock. But when they embarked on this course in the 1970s they would not have foreseen how gold would be made available to the masses through yet-to-be-invented ETFs; nor could they have foreseen the emergence of Russia and China from deep communism into aggressive capitalist-style development, generating hundreds of millions of new gold-loving savers. Consequently the old-guard BIS members have lost embarrassing quantities of bullion and cannot confess this to the markets. Presumably they had hoped that by withholding this information they could bluff it out; and they might have succeeded had it not been for the very serious financial and economic deterioration in the global economy, which raises the possibility of a Fed-induced dollar crisis, triggering new demand for physical bullion......

    ...
So, before any pundit makes a price forecast, and before anyone lucky enough to own gold thinks about selling, they should dwell on this important question: in this extraordinary market where the central banks are at war, where the devil and at what price are we going to find 20,000 tonnes of gold?

CFTC Commissioner Raises Alarm Over Silver Market Manipulation

The manipulation in the silver market with two or three banks holding enormous undeliverable short positions was obvious, for years.

The CFTC was complicit in turning a blind eye to this, stonewalling and whitewashing the corruption, as were many market commentators and participants. Ted Butler and GATA did a wonderful job of highlighting this enormous fraud but were ignored and even vilified for the past twelve years in the same vein as whistle blower Harry Markopolos was in raising concerns about Madoff's investment scheme.

Bart Chilton is speaking out as he said a few weeks ago he would if the CFTC was not making progress in correct this travesty. This is the sort of reform that the people were seeking when they swept the Democrats into office, a reform which they never received....

JPM and HSBC Sued for Silver Market Manipulation

As I recall when Blanchard sued Barrick and JPM for manipulating the gold market one of the first motions to dismiss came from Barrick who claimed that they were acting at the behest of the government and the central banks.

I believe the law firm representing this was the one who was successful in the Sumitomo copper litigation.

    Reuters
JPM and HSBC Sued for Alleged Silver Market Manipulation
    By Jonathan Stempel
NEW YORK, Oct 27 (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) and HSBC Holdings Plc (HSBA.L) were hit with two lawsuits on Wednesday by investors who accused them of conspiring to drive down silver prices, and reaping an estimated hundreds of millions of dollars of illegal profits.

The banks, among the world's largest, were accused of manipulating the market for COMEX silver futures and options contracts from the first half of 2008 by amassing huge short positions in silver futures contracts that are designed to profit when prices fall........
