I even heard rumors about a guy that lives in my house ... that has a wife very similar to my wife. And this wife collects the Perth Lunar Dragons. In my opinion, these are the most over valued coins on the planet right now. But, I heard this guy put together a set of PCGS MS70 Perth 2000 Gold Dragons from 1 ounce to 1/20 ounce ... just for his wife's birthday last year. Seriously, some people are NUTS![]()

I agree with what both of you have said, I have said it before, and I think it was said earlier on here..you only regret what you don't buy..Here are two set's I have put together this year..a 1oz Silver Lunar Set I, & 1oz Silver African Elephant Wildlife Set.. I doubt if I will ever make my money back out of these..but they are set's I have put together, I Enjoyed it, and don't Regret that I did or the cost

You will get there. Nobody's perfect. I think that the pictures look much better than they did in my opinion. You must be using the macro function on your camera. If that is the case, then it is a huge improvement. FWIW, when I bought my first camera, my pictures did not turn out that great. Some of my earliest silver art bar camera pictures were somewhat blurry and the detail of some of them were not as good as the most recent pics that I took almost a month ago. It takes practice and you can also reach out to TomD because he has a lot of expertise and experience on photography and taking coin pictures. He has helped me during my time at GIM1.
As for the coins, I think that this is the first time that I have seen the African Wildlife coins. I am very familiar with the Perth Mint Lunar coins but I do not have the whole set since I concentrate most of my efforts in collecting silver art bars. I think that you mentioned that you will not get your money back, however, since you are happy with them, then that is what matters. FWIW I have several silver 1-oz silver art bars that I paid between $100-$177 for them on ebay and those are some of my favorite bars and I do not regret that I paid those prices for them. After 3+ years of going to coin shows and searching the various LCS, I could not find them. Generally speaking, I will always try to the LCS and coin shows to find what I am looking for at .999 generic silver premiums but after a certain amount of time, if I cannot find what I am looking for at the LCS or the coin shows, then I will just bite the bullet and pay the "collector's premium" to obtain it on ebay when it shows up there. I am not in a rush to complete a specific silver art bar collection and I love what I buy and that is the most important thing for me as a collector.
With all of that said, I do not buy very often on ebay because I like hunting for silver art bars myself at the LCS and the coin shows and I l enjoy the feeling of finding a rare (or "semi-rare") one for .999 generic silver premiums. I have had my fair share of what other people will consider great "snags" and I have also had my fair share of what other people would consider "WTFs" during my time collecting but that is fine with me because I enjoy what I do and I spend time researching and trying to learn from other collectors who are more much knowledgeable and experienced than I am when it comes to silver art bar collecting.

ATTENTION!!!!!! Read this very carefully: My gut feeling on silver is just that.......A gut feeling. I have absolutely nothing to back up my gut feeling with.
My gut says........Silver will NOT hit and hold $50 before 2015.

Hmmmm.........Red flag # 1: No pictures of the coin. I stopped counting after that. If a person cannot see exactly what they are bidding on, then that a huge red flag because appearance of an item for most people means a lot especially for collectors who pay attention to details of a coin.

Josey,
Let me preface by saying - I COULD BE WRONG
However, in MY opinion,if you want to see a picture of it, just go into his feedback. Check item #270907821651 from Feb 13,2012 7:25. It's the next to last item in his feedback. I've got a real strong suspiscion that the coin he paid $27 for is this same coin he's trying to sell now with a starting bid of a grand and his "grading estimate" of $5000 to $7000.
The number of red flags in this posting is unbelievable

Another young Victoria sovereign in today, the first year for the St. George design, 1871. Less than $1550/oz after E-bucks

Pretty nice snag, my oldest sovereign as of now.

Found seller on Craigslist
1 - 1881 Morgan $23
3 - 1964 Kennedy Halves $10.50 each
and an ugly colorized 2000 ASE at "spot", I asked the seller what spot price he was selling the ASE for he said, "$21.25" I said okay I will buy it! Seller added it up came to $75.75, I gave him $76 and called it good.
Avg. $26.98/oz. not bad.![]()

What do you guys think of this auction?
summary: It's a "mystery safe" auction and it went for $700. Supposedly bought from a large coin/paper money collector, had the key and no combination. Seller is claiming he took it to a locksmith, who wouln't try to open it because he didn't have proof of ownership.
I dont know... pretty small safe, but hinges are on the inside. Enough time with a drill, grinder, reciprocating saw or band saw, and you could get the thing open if you wanted to, especially if you though it contained a ton of paper money and gold krugs as well...
Irons (04-30-2012)
Just my opion..but I would have stayed far away from that auction..it's a sentry safe..they are not hard to get into..or you can just go this route... IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!
You must call (800) 828-1438 for combination retreivals.
The following is for informational purposes only:
If you need your combination, you must send a notarized letter stating you are the owner of the safe. (Note: the owner's last name must be different from that of the notary public). For locations that require a raised notary seal, use a pencil to shade the seal to insure that it is visible.
The notarized letter needs to include:
1.Your name, address and phone number.
2.The model number and serial number from your safe. The serial number is typically found on the front of the door, lower right corner on a small sticker; the right outside wall of your safe; or under the keypad/dial on the front of safe.
3.Please indicate how you would like to receive your combination. Options include first class mail, e-mail or fax. Your letter must clearly indicate which method you are choosing to receive your combination, as well as the mailing address, e-mail address, or fax number to which it should be sent. Note that failure to indicate the method in which your combination should be returned to you will result in delays to the process.

I have a safe exactly like that. Either the auction is bs, or the seller is an idiot. The safe is single wall (not a fire safe), thin metal, and already has 4 holes in the bottom for mounting bolts. The door is the heaviest part of the safe and could be pried in about 10 seconds. The walls are thin enough to cut with a jigsaw. This was the first safe I bought and its purpose was a pistol safe when I had young ones still at home.
Now, mine is bolted to the bottom shelf of my work bench in the garage and used to store my extra ammo. I would not dream of keeping non-lead values in it.

Have thought about buying silver coins from the Bahamas and other Caribbean areas, because I like the art work on alot of them...but have wondered if they are easy to liquidate if you ever did decide to sell them..I have noticed that even some of the refinerys say they don't take foreign silver coins..Just asking?

Bought two 100 gram sterling bowls today for $14.50/ea from a sale at my church. They're modern and not in great shape, but silver's silver.
They also have a large and very heavy sterling platter, but I'm guessing they'll wise up and price it accordingly. If not, I'll have something to serve my dinners on until I cash out.
What do people usually pay for sterling? 75% melt?

I certainly do, but if you take sterling to most jewelry stores/pawns/we buy/etc. than expect to be offered 25 to 50% melt as most pay very poorly for sterling. You can't go wrong buying at 75% of actual melt IMO (remember to calculate ASW at .925, .825, etc.), but be mindful of knifes (filled handles/steel blades) and items that are filled like candle holders and what not. Also make sure you familiarize yourself with the hallmark system and of course make sure to learn about German silver and nickel silver.

per an email, Silvertowne free shipping on orders over $100 with code 'mayfreeship'.
I think this is one-day (May 1st) only but not sure.
The funny thing is, not only will he get in a boat load of manure with eBay over this when they find the listing...but he ia acting like going
to him directly and saving $14 whole dollars per roll changes the price from "ridiculous" to fantastic!....
