I think i did alright with my latest sterling lot. 322 grams of sterling (including gems) for just over $170.
I figured there is absolutely no way that gems account for over 100 grams of the lot so I think I did pretty damn good. Once i get all the sterling its off to the refiners to get converted into .999 silver

I think I am trying to catch a falling knife, but yesterday I've bought locally about 100 oz of premium silver for around $26.50/oz including ASE, Libertads, few Pandas and Maple Leaves and my very first Britannias, as well as some really nice AU+ Peace Dollars. I fully expect the spot to crater today as it always does after every big purchase close to spotBut I figure out that the numi value on some of them should give me some cushion at least for a time ... Also yesterday in a mixed junk lot, I've discovered in a 2x2 flip a BU 1936 Delaware half dollar (no joke, it looks like MS64 at least to me - going to NGC later this month - pictures of it later tonight ); that's a $250 value easily for about $9 paid

I think i got a great deal...286 grams of sterling for $127.50. Take away the stones and trash and it looks like it is still a winner lot

Hell even after the refinery taking their cut it would still be great.

Private party for the 100 oz - my LCS are really bad when it comes to premiums (I can understand judging from the taxes and rent in SoCal) and Ebay junk silver lot for the Delaware. Speaking of Delaware here are the pics.

It is almost Proof-Like so it was extremely difficult to get a good camera picture of the Kalmar Nyckel reverse. What do you think the proper grade would be ?

My coin show snag for today....................
I bought this today at a coin show and I paid $78.00 for this 1/20th oz 1993 gold Chinese Panda (spot gold finished at $1584/oz). This has to be my greatest gold snag ever and I am not even a gold "hoor".![]()

Actually that piece was "ex-jewelry" and that is why it had those marks and nicks on it. Actually I am glad that it had those marks and nicks on it because it did look like it was "bitten" into to check it authenticity. The only reason that I paid the low price that I paid for it because it is damaged but it is still gold. I did not mind since I was getting it for a price that is slightly less than melt based on today's spot gold price. Even though I am a silver art bar "hoor", I could not turn down getting a fractional gold coin for that low price. Those kind of opportunities do not come by very often.

My little snag for the day, found it in the jewelry section of craigslist. $25 for a 2.6 gram 14k gold ring. I estimate the stones to weigh 0.2 grams. Didn't test it when I met her other than to look for a hallmark. Came home and acid and magnet tested it and its good. Just about $70 melt value. Put it on eBay and when it sells I'll use the funds to buy a 2 peso gold coin.

I wish I could join all of you gold "hoors" but I cannot be seen hanging out with the gold "hoors" on GIM because that would tarnish (pun intended) my reputation as a silver art bar "hoor" and I cannot allow that to happen.![]()
My 1st priority when going to a coin show is silver art bars first. Fractional "gold art" is a distant second.
However, I still will keep an eye out for any good deals on fractional "gold art" and I will occasionally buy if the price is right.![]()

Yep he's a gone goslin. We've got him now.
Starts with a gram or 2 then a 1/20 next thing you know you're dragging in a 50 pound bag of white copper and leaving with a pocket full of gold.
After that you're getting pounded by waves in Lake Michigan looking for a gold ring among the gravel in a stainless steel scoop!
Er, maybe thats just me. Carry On!!![]()

Hahahaha!!!! I am a silver art bar "hoor". That is my story and I am sticking to it.
Nope. No one can get the silver art bar "hoor" to change his color from white to yellow. Once a silver art bar "hoor" ALWAYS a silver art bar "hoor". I love my silver art bars way too much to part with them for that yellow stuff. Besides I cannot go to Michigan because I am a Tennessee boy through and through and there are no beaches here in Tennessee for me to search for any free gold.
Nope. I will remain Silver Art.

Hey Gcubed. I cannot and will not allow Darth Vader to get close to me unless he has a silver art bars that he wants to sell to me and if that is the case, then me and Darth can make a deal.In all honesty, I am really just a poor man silver art bar "hoor" so I will just continue to stick to snagging silver art bars at the various coin shows that I go to and I will leave the gold "hoor-ing" to the real experts here.. Once a silver art bar "hoor" ALWAYS a silver art bar "hoor".
Trust Me!!!!!!!!!!

I will gladly accept a cookie from you but both of you did not "lose" because this current discussion proves to me that gold "hoors" and silver "hoors" can indeed get along and live together in peace in the GIM community.![]()
I will admit that buying fractional gold is well off the beaten path for me since I usually look for and buy silver art bars. The reason that I posted my fractional 1/20th oz 1993 gold Chinese Panda snag on this thread because I got it for slightly under melt which I thought was out of the ordinary for a gold coin of that size. When I go to coin shows, I usually see fractional gold of that size with premiums ranging between $15 to $25 (or more) over melt. The LCS in my area usually do not have and fractional gold of that size and when they do, it is marked up to as much as $25 over melt. The only time that I buy fractional gold is when I have a hard time finding silver art bars that I like.

Well, completed listing don't really mean much on eBay. Sometimes people bid and then don't pay for various reasons, one reason being they realized they bid way too much and simply back out of the deal.

I'm sure we can work something out. I'm on taxfreegold right now trying to figure out the year.
I don't think 1978 is right. I eyeballed the diameter in the package with calipers and it is 22 mm.

Interesting just enough information to leave us hanging![]()
Is that a HALF PAHLAVI with the 0.1354 oz marked weight?
Or a FULL PAHLAVI mis-labeled weight?
Kind of like the difference between the penny holder and a dime holder (hard to tell with my monitor)
same (2"x2") or (50mm x 50mm) overall size....with small center hole.
Found this quick reference on dating
http://www.coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/...main_ct_id=133
Thanks Iron
With this usefull post I learned something new today about Pahlavis
(all comes down to size and weight)
