I have to admit, those are pretty cool looking and well made. If I can snag one for cheap I will!

I have been looking and I haven't seen one since. You girls are ruthless!!![]()

And if I wasn't so broke and within my right-mind at the moment, I would be all over this. I just can't get past the premiums.

Yeah, that's nearly as steep as the Lunar Dragon I was looking at the other day. Think it was already bidding at $1100+

I doubt that this will qualify for a great snag but I sure as heck is a WTF to me. i picked this up for a couple of FRN's at a yard sale Saturday AM.
Looks like an ash tray with a 1906 India 1 Rupee silver coin in the middle. The coin looks real like a 90% pre-64 US coin. The bottom is stamped silver to the side. Anyone know what this is?

Hi Vteezer, your coin does indeed look to be an Indian 1906 silver one rupee. The coin itself is 11.6600g of 0.9170 silver, giving a silver weight of 0.3438 ounces.
It looks to me as if there is a very small "B" on the crown so was minted in Bombay (Mumbai). If there is no B it was minted in Calcutta.
Mintage was just under 159 million for that year in Bombay, 104.7 million from Calcutta. Krause number is KM# 508. Given the mintage numbers it is probably worth scrap only, and as you only paid a couple of dollars that is a great snag.
Silver Member
Thanks BT, for the info. I compared a walker to it in size and it looks close. Wondering if the rest of it is sterling or silver plate?
To be honest if it was me, and it was such a cheap buy, I'd be tempted to get a nail or a knife and give the underside a short but deep scratch...see if you can get through the plating and find out if it's brass underneath.
I would guess it probably is sterling, if it marked as that, but who knows.
VTEEZER (04-12-2010)
It just says silver no sterling. Usually silverplate says silverplate though. I'm resisting the urge to scrape it just because it's in decent condition and I might throw into my antique booth. I'm going to do a little more searching on the net before I decide what to do with it. Thanks!
You fine folks may want to get over to ebay NOW, nobody's bidding. I just won my first slabbed coin ever for well under spot!
1/4 Gold Britannia. $280
And I was out bid on a slabbed 1/2 gold maple, it went for $565!!!!!
Oh Yeah, SNAGG!!!!!

Here's my contribution to this great thread.
From left to right:
1. Harrah's Casino .999 fine silver/mystery metal unknown ounce round.
2. "The Americana Series: The Presidents" set. All clad with the exception of a 1969 40% silver Kennedy half dollar.
3. US Mint 2005 50 State Quarter Silver Proof Set, w/o (lol) certificate of authenticity.
4. "III Forks" (didn't take a pic of that side) .999 fine silver/mystery metal unknown ounce round.
All purchased today from a financially distressed co-worker for $60 FRN. I could have gotten an Ike dollar too, but I didn't know if it was silver or not. Now that I know it's 40% I may pick it up tomorrow.
I probably lost money on this deal but at least I helped the guy buy groceries for his family for the week.
Well worth the WTF value.![]()

I like the casino rounds, even though they don't get much respect.
Yeah, they're different. lol
One thing is for certain. If/when silver moonshoots they will be the first to go! lol
Edit:
http://www.rivercitycoins.com/silver...inotokens.htmlThe "Silver Strikes" in the following table are of the $10 denomination and are 42mm in diameter. Each has a .999 pure silver core and a heavy gold electroplated outer brass ring. I understand the silver content to be around 0.6 oz. "Silver Strikes" were issued in limited editions and were premiums one could win in certain slot machines.
Using this guy's website as a price guide it looks like my riverboat casino token is worth $25.![]()

Silver for only $166.67 and oz
http://cgi.ebay.com/WASHINGTON-MINT-...item20b07a4a50
What I get from this is WTF would you pay to have your bullion graded and slabbed, when it's only going to sell as bullion anyway?
And a Britannia to boot! Don't waste your money folks! Stack Gold not wishes.

Okay, here's part of the reason gold nose dived yesterday. On Thursday I just picked up two 1/4oz 2009 Gold Year of the Ox Lunars for $300 each, and 6 tenth 1/10oz 2009 Gold Year of the Ox Lunars for $120 each. Before you ask - yes, they are colorized. But even though I know the colorized versions are tougher to resell I'd do this deal again in a heartbeat.
Irons (04-21-2010)
I picked up 20 mint rolls of uncirculated 90% quarters at 13 times face. I don't know if it is a good price because I usually do circulated halves. Was this a good price or did I leave money on the table??
Well another score on 90% silver. Ok here we go...
40 Roosies for $48.01- 3% Ebates ($1.44)= $46.57 + $2.50 shipping= $49.07 shipped
or $16.96/ oz
Take out shipping and I paid $16.09/oz

25 Mercury dimes.
2 Roosevelt dimes.
9 1964 Kennedy halves.
7 1965-1969 Kennedy halves.
3 Peace dollars.
2 Morgan dollars.
Purchased today from another financially distressed coworker for $180 FRNs. Work prospecting FTW.
Just got 3 2002 brittanias for $22.33 each. you guys think it was a good deal? high premium but lower then I've seen em anywhere online.
SB I think that is a great deal... Now that we seem to be trading sideways and it's like watching paint dry, ebay is a great diversion![]()

The one that got away....
Someone stole this one right out from under me. PLEASE tell me it was one of y'all who jumped in before me and snagged this one. It sold faster than I could click "buy it now".

I figured Id offer this up to y'all just in case one of you may be interested. Be sure to check seller's feedback before making your decision. It could be a legit deal but after looking at feedback I personally am not willing to take the risk.

Does anybody have a lead on where to find Perth Mint Oriana gold bars bigger than 1 gram? My wife freaking loves them. They rarely show up on ebay.

I see them on ebay all the time. The ones bigger than 1gram are in cards, but at a decent premium.
Irons (04-21-2010)
I've just been looking the last few weeks, and I prefer the ones in the cards. There is a 5g on there now but $290 + shipping is ridiculous!

****, you know what, I'm probably thinking of the new perth mint ones. The Oriana ones are pretty rare.
Don't like paying $130 for a roll of 90% silver quarters, but after cashback and what not works out to be about $0.27 below spot per quarter so what the hell picked up one roll. Thanks as always.
