    Car and Driver's 2012 '10Best' Cars

By the editors of Car and Driver

It's time once again for the Car and Driver editors to choose the ten best machines extant. The cars on the list don't have to be the newest, and they don't have to be expensive — nothing over $80,000 is allowed. They just have to meet our abundant needs while satisfying our every want. These are the best cars on the market.

Someone is living at a higher $ point than those of us in glockville, good for them.

Car & Driver is like Motortrend. They promote their advertisers.

JMO. But the content has always struck me as rather heavily slanted.

You follow the recent Detroit show? Some strange stuff coming down the pipe.

I've subscribed continuously to C&D for several decades and seen them go through several incarnations. I commonly see them come down on the products of heavy advertisers. I do admit that they are heavily biased in favor of a driving style that if you ever got out of jail, you wouldn't be able to get insurance.

I got invited to a C&D event at Atlanta International Raceway about 3 years ago. They had road courses set up and the invitees got to push 8 different vehicles through them as fast as we could to see if we could upset or overpower the computer handling system. Lots of fun.

2 numbers I need to know. 0-100-0 time and lateral acceleration. Everything else is trivia.

If I remember correctly, the 427 Cobra was the first to get the 0-100-0 time to sub-10 second.

I have an old Toad and Rack issue around somewhere about that. I think it's in the garage attic, next trip up there I'll see if I can find it.

You gotta admit that would be an exciting 10 seconds! But not the most exciting. C&D did a "road test" on a top fuel dragster sometime back. The 0-100 time was 0.7 seconds!!!! That would have to top being eaten by a tyrannosaur as a sheer freakout experience!!

ASDFG! I haven't found the damn magazine, but I did find this:

    http://www.nhra.net/streetlegal/funfacts.html

that one cylinder of the eight cylinders of a Top Fuel dragster or a Funny Car produces 750 horsepower, equaling the entire horsepower output of a NASCAR engine?
However, the nasty award still has to go to the Awful/Awful fuel altereds. LoL, take a 56 vette, hack off the front clip, weld on a custom clip with a topfuel hemi bolted into it, remove everything else that might way something except the steering wheel.

I was impressed by a review of the Honda Fit. How they got that much cargo space in a car that small is really impressive. Then I drove it. Acceleration up a freeway on-ramp was a bad joke. Steering, like many of the new hondas is vague, handling is awkward. Awful car.
May all living beings have happiness and the causes of happiness; May all living beings be free from misery and the causes of misery; May all living beings never be separated from boundless joy; May all living beings abide in equanimity free from grasping and aversion.
