Here is the results from a pretty good beach hunt Sunday. I found a good hole with lots of targets but no Gold.

Unfortunatly it ain't all gold rings and roses. Sigh.

Anyway here is a pretty typical beach hunt results, those green nickels and quarters are a great sign you are hitting old heavy targets.

You start getting those its time to reference a spot on shore, note how deep you are and slow down.

The little flower ring and the fat cross ear ring in front are marked .925, the rest is junk.

Another beach more junk, clad and a possible diamond.

The rings are junk, the freaking CZ carnival is gold over sterling. It sounded like a roll of quarters when my coil passed over it so I knew without looking it wasn't Gold.

What a ridiculous ring! I wouldn't wear that even if it was real!

Its marked RSC, whatever that means in junk jewelry speak.

The earring I scooped out from under a dock, it was a faint but solid mid tone.

Looks like they took it off so they wouldn't lose it. Roopsie!

I don't have my diamond tester here so the jury is still out on that one, may be real or junk.

If any of you fine folks can tell by looking at it please chime in.

EDIT: Diamond is as fake as the ring, huge suprise.

Irons, save all of the gold filled junk in a bag or box. I'll tell/teach ya what to do with it after it builds up.

    All kidding aside Irons,
Are there other spots that you are going to prospect. I am discouraged enough that I scanned my yard with my grandson. Did find a clad Kennedy half which is better than nothing. Almost as equal, but better.

Oh I'll keep at it, heck this is my first summer! It looks like the gold will come in waves.

I got spoiled in June-July finding Gold left and right. Another thing I have learned is the big lake beaches are almost all sanded in by late July early August.

Winter storms remove tons of sand and gentle summer breezes put it all back, covering the heavy targets until they are all out of range.

I still find plenty of stuff, but I ain't in this for the clad or the silver.

Brother Irons, I hope this is some help to ya..RSC stands for RS Covenant jewelry..they are, and have been since 1978 a wholeseller of Sterling Silver jewelry, fashion rings, and costume jewelry, their jewelry tends to retail for $5-$55 the gemstones are CZ..but some of their bands are made of Sterling Silver.......Heres their company statement.......
R.S. Covenant began its journey 30 years ago, in the basement of its owners, Pat and Roger Schroeder, and has grown to become one of the leading suppliers of fashion rings in the country. What began with dreams of wildly successful sales and profits, quickly turned into the hard reality of survival. Not only did Covenant survive, it thrived. Today, our customers benefit from those many years of struggle.

When you sell only one product as Covenant did for 30 years, you learn quickly that your customer must be successful or you’ll soon be out of business. So Pat and Roger began thinking about their customers’ success rather than their own, believing that the one would balance the other. Everything Covenant does is built around their customer’s need to make money from selling their product. Free displays, free stock cabinets, great margins and liberal exchange privileges are just the beginning.

R.S. Covenant sells a program. They will be the first to tell you that there are many companies who can sell you a ring, but few, if any, that can sell you a program that works! And work it does! Many customers find Covenant’s program to be the single best seller in their store, producing more sales and profit per square foot than any other item. Even better, Covenant has developed a way to prove it. As part of their customer service policy, Covenant tracks every re-order that a customer places. Armed with this information, we are capable of producing a performance analysis and income statement for any customer’s display at the click of a button.

Covenant sells rings that are made of Sterling Silver and rings that are made of Jeweler’s Bronze (a brass alloy). They all have the look of fine jewelry. Rings are not a trendy item and Roger admits that some styles have been in their line for 30 years. Some styles just refuse to go away and continue to sell year after year. But there is a big difference in the product sold today versus 30 years ago. In the old days, stones were glass and most were glued in place. Today, most stones are hand-set, custom-cut Cubic Zirconia. Quality has improved 1000% and prices aren’t any higher than they were 30 years ago.

Every style that Covenant carries is unique in that each is made to our specifications. There will be styles that you might see carried by other suppliers simply because they represent a great new look and everyone wants to show it; or they could be ageless classics that everyone must have. But you would be hard pressed to find another ring that has the same quality built into it as Covenant’s. Our only concern is making a better ring. Every ring is made one at a time. Every ring is hand-polished. And, Covenant’s Cubic Zirconia is custom-cut and hand-set, just like a diamond. The result; our rings look better; and they sell better.
No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch.

    Great detective work Gold Rush.

I do see the Covenant name on lots of jewelry. Not that I wear, it mind you. Just when I am tagging or looking in thrift stores. I really don't wear it. I swear. Honest.

I like their mission. Give the customer what they want.

The dazzling beauty I scooped out from under a dock is the gold over brass critter.

Since cleaning and proudly wearing my treasure 3 of the precious gemstones have fallen out,

including the red one from the center. I feel totally cheated and a bit cheap now. Sad days gentlemen.

Tuesday I did find some cool stuff. A creepy looking gothic cross locket pendant thats .925 and a pendant that says hi loser with a bunny on it.

Also what might be a 65 silver quarter.

Its an odd one, when I'm scooping up clad I just look at the edge to see if its a copper sandwich and put it in the coin pocket.

This one wasn't obvious so I put it in the jewelry pocket. Its not silver, doesn't sound like it but the edge is clean.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow, I found another tungsten piece of crap and a near heart attack cubic zirconia ring.

One of them is going to be real one of these days and they'll find me floating in the water.

Bunch of silver rings and pendants, junk, clad.

Well, if it weighs 6.25 grams it's worth a bazillion dollars or so.

Hit a popular swimming hole and it had been cleaned out ahead of me. Happens.

The park was big though and further down the lake were picnic areas and each has their own little beach. Jackpot!

I went to 1 of 6 areas and it was full of targets, nice little 1.2 gram Gold angel stamped 10k on the bale.

And some clad and a nice old school sterling ring! That is stamped sterling, a little polishing and it will be sweet.

5 more to go in that park, I can only hope they are all this good!

Used it once when lake michigan turned over and the water dropped to 48 degrees, takes a little getting used to and one leg had a small leak but I fixed that.

The water will be getting cold fast now so it will be getting lots of use right to ice up and in the spring.

I mainly got that for the big lake as waders are close to useless when you're getting hit by waves.

No Gold but this ring just about put a pellet in my waders today.

Stamped 925. One of these times its going to be real Gold or Platinum and diamonds and I'll probably fall over and drown.

    Mickey is stamped 925 Disney.

Beaches are finally getting torn up by fall winds and taking some of the boring summer sand out.
Found a nice hole in the surf today and found lots of clad from a 1954 nickel and '58 wheat penny to 2006 clad, a ladies watch, a junk ring and chunk of junk chain.

I'm starting to think I may have had some beginners luck going on earlier this summer.

Gold seems to be pretty elusive, but tomorrow's another day on another beach!

Not those ones, I never surf fished in the big lakes we troll for walleyes in reservoirs when we fish.

I have about 20 pounds of them by now if you would like me to send you some.

Finally ended my Gold drought, man that was scary!

I hit an old park by my house, this place has been hit hard but it's so old and still busy as heck it almost always gives up some great finds.

We finally had some real soaker rains so the ground is super conductive and targets were crisp and easy to hear compared to the adobe dust of summer.

This was the worst crappy pull tab signal ever, a jumpy 61 on the AT Pro, but I dug it and Whoo Hoo!!!

The ring is a 1974 and local so I'll see if I can find the owner. Oh that flat ring is marked sterling so a silver today too.

I have a bunch of other silver stuff I've been finding, I'll post them this week sometime.

I use the Lesche hand digger in parks and yards. Cuts a nice clean flap in the sod.

Thanks man! I hear you about the roofing nails on beaches, I think they must come from driftwood off old boathouses and fish shanty's.

At the end of our block I happened to look down. There before my eyes was a Roosevelt dime!

That's odd to find it in my neighborhood. Someone must have raided a change collection or something? This is a relatively new area.

Another pic from the tailgate, still dirty. Mmmmmmmm Gold!!!!

At least 30 years under the dirt and comes out unmistakably precious metal!

    If y'all can't tell I still can't believe I found this one.

EDIT: Look at the coin in the middle, he gouged it with the digging tool! DOH!! I've done that with a Barber dime.

I scooped 3 hallmarked silver rings out of a virgin beach today, several ear rings some of which are silver too.

One of the rings is old, old old and has what looks like a real ruby in it. It's a beauty, I have to turn that one over to the boss when I get it cleaned up.

Pic's tomorrow, I'm beat and the water was cold as hell.

    Weekend Silver!!!

I found a big hole in an old Lake Michigan beach and hit it for 2 days. It was cold but fun as heck! A time capsule!

The sand was stripped out and all there was was rocks and targets scattered around on hard clay.

Scooping coins and rings off hard clay ain't no picnic! I had to scrape them out of the cracks and try to push them into the scoop with my foot.

All the time getting hit by cold waves. Yep I'm a frickin' lunatic.

I left out the multi colored clad and sinkers, you all have seen that. The key is cool as heck!

The lion is pure lead and the ball is either buckshot or a 38 caliber musket ball.

The 2 rings with stones look very old, neither stones are scratched so they are either synthetic or natural. The butterfly may be CZ or white topaz.

All the rings and the bracelet are marked 925. I found a pile of ear rings too. Fun weekend!

Nice finds. I need to get back out and detect and find some gold. Only found silver so far. Almost a half ounce or so worth of coins.

Nothing fancy but finally found something other than bobbie pins, nails or bottle tops.

Was digging a footing for some steps and figured I would scan the dirt before backfilling. Found bones and old glass objects. The house is over 100 years old in the center of town.

Got a reading of half dollar on detector.

Match safe from Birmangham, England dated 1897. Made by Minshull & Latimer. Has an inscription of to and from. Weighs 14 grams. Pretty beat up but I think the home owners will enjoy it. Maybe I could talk them into building more decks all over their yard.

This is my first P.M. find and I gotta thank Irons for 1) Starting this thread and encouraging me to go prospecting and 2) Continue to encourage me to be persistant when I was finding anything but gold or silver. Otherwise the MD would be wrapped around a tree by now.

Old ski resort hunt = Silver !!!

I found a website that lists old closed down ski resorts in Michigan and there are 3 close by my cabin. So we went out to one and the wife and killer dog went hiking and I went searching for the lost and left behind.

It was a lot of fun, this is new kind of hunting for me and I liked it. I pretty much just strolled around waving the detector while looking around and trying to picture the place when it was going full blast back in the 1950's and 60's. It was closed by 1970.

The Michigan Jungle is taking it back at a rapid rate, but just below the surface my MD was showing me what a happening place it was!

First thing I noticed was when they took out the old lodge was they pretty much bulldozed the best area, dammit. Once I figured that out I concentrated on the unaltered areas and they were full of targets.

Bullets and shells, junk, ski parts and coins!!!!

I found a lot of clad from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Lots of copper pennies, wheat pennies and nickels. Quarters were 65 and up.

Very pleasant hunting there, I'll be able to wander this huge area for years and be happy.

Still some open areas, but mostly grown over now.

I climbed up a ways and found an old ski jump. I wonder how many teeth are down there.
