Yep not a problem. I probably won't be finding any on the redneck riviera beaches I hunt but richer beach areas you bet.

The way most modern metal detectors classify the metal you put them over is by its conductivity, I always thought it was by density but thats wrong.

Mommy says I can get a stick too.

Seriously, I wuzz a watchin Meteorite Men on the science channel and those fellas tune their sticks.

    They find lot's of wire.

If you find a good meteorite you can buy fancy new sticks.

If you find a really, really good one with the green jewels in it you can buy a company that makes sticks.

I don't think they find many, they was a usin homemade sticks.

Quick Question, why the AT Pro over the AT Gold? They look like the same thing except for the "Gold" part.

The AT Gold operates on higher frequencies than the pro and is specially tuned to find nuggets in the highly mineralized rocky soil gold is usually found in.
It will still do a fine job picking coins out of the park but its kind of overkill, and neutral soil may freak it out a bit and make it difficult to ground balance.

If I lived in gold nugget country I would have bought one.

Its better than a bounty hunter but for $50 more an Ace 250 is a great machine. Get a garrett pro pointer too, trust me on that.

Always call or email for thier best price. These guys can't publish thier actual prices.

Spent some time at the beach today with my MD and the new Pro Pointer. Gotta say I love that thing. Makes the whole search/filter process so much easier.

Went out for a few hours today, found 12 coins, 5 buttons, two buckles and what looks like an old porthole window from a ship

Coins are all bronze/copper and range from 1938 down to the 1700's.

I have them soaking in olive in try to and get more detail from the older ones before taking pics, as the fertiliser in the soil eats away at any pre Victorian.

    .................................................. ....... ~ GOLD #2 ~

And more free silver. I'm MD'ing a small beach in a county park that used to be a resort before it burned down decades ago.

Lord knows what I'll find around here but lost jewelry and old silver is a freakin' good start!

Found the usual pile of clad, can slaw and pull tabs and some junk jewelry. Copper lizard anybody?

The Michigan pendant is 1.5 grams of 14k gold and the ear ring is stamped .925.

If I had found both ear rings my wife would have snagged them while I was rinsing them off.

Thanks for looking now I have to check out Zilvers posts!

most of it is from Ny, some from Vermont,
every now and then I would drive to CT in search of a Higley copper.
    (never found one though)

I am a pretty newbie myself as only been detetecting 8 months but I can share what has increased my finds rate and quality so far.

First is the site research I do. Originally it would have been the case of going on any random field I had permission for and hoping something good would pop up.

I now only ask for permission on fields that have had a lot of activity over the years which will greatly increase the good stuff that has been dropped.

At the minute I am concentrating on old fair sites: market fairs, cattle fairs, point to point racing fields. These sites have hundreds of years activity and plenty of items get lost over the years. If you research the exact fields these took place in and get permission, your on a winner.

The second is the way I swing my coil. Originally I was running about the fields like a madmad, swinging the coil head fast. I now use the 'slow and low' swing technique.

Slow the swing right down, by doing this it will help pick up those iffy signals and also allow the machine to recover better if you have a good signal next to a big bit of iron. If you swing too fast the machine cannot recover and you just get the iron signal, by swinging slow you should hear the signal through the iron.

I also now swing with the coil touching the grass, if you swing with the coil a couple of inches off the ground you lose that distance in depth. So by swingly low, it increases the depth detection.

    They find lot's of wire.

If you find a good meteorite you can buy fancy new sticks.

If you find a really, really good one with the green jewels in it you can buy a company that makes sticks.

I don't think they find many, they was a usin homemade sticks.

    Wanting 5k for a 5 gram slice.

I am starting to hate silver.
About 10 years ago I was hit by a meteorite while outside playing a boardgame. I thought it was a black fly bite at first, but it was a tiny speck of a meteorite. Stung when it happened, but the fact that I'm half mountain ape meant that it couldn't bounce back out of the arm hair. Thing was so small that I lost it, though

1916 Merc by far my oldest free silver find!

My first try in an old park by me, hunting is brutal there the place was dedicated in 1924 and is carpeted with pull tabs.

Looks to have been picked over pretty well over the years by other detectorists but there is still good stuff to be found.

Whenever I start to think I got this hobby figured out I'll return there to be slapped humble.

Nice find Irons, it's always good to pull Silver out

Here is my earliest coin and my only hammered silver. It is a 1605 halfgroat (2p) James 1st of England who was also James IV of Scotland at the time. That is why there is a rose and crown, with a thistle and crown.

It was folded in half when I dug it up and you can still see the fold line after straightening.

Thank you for joining in! Merc mintmarks are on the back, I forgot to look at that one.

I better start checking dates and marks because I'm bound to dig up a key date sooner or later.

The coolest thing about finding old US silver is you know it right away.

These things come out of really nasty soil bright white and gleaming! I freakin' love this hobby!!!!

EDIT: Its a no mint mark. Dangit! Ah well !

This was my first Silver coin find, dug up in January.

It is an 1888 Queen Victoria Crown.

Not a bad chunk of Silver to start with
