I like the idea but not a big fan of the soldiers pose, it looks odd for some reason... gonna pass on this one.
I'm having a hard time deciding on this one. The issues in my head are:
- We just finished up several commemorative military coins this past December
- The Mint hasn't released their schedule for the year
- With the "Defenders of Freedom Set", it's starting to look like the U.S. Mint products are going the route of the Franklin Mint.
- I've already heard some comments about the guy on the coin looking like he's about to sneeze instead of defending. I would have liked a bunker with the solder looking out with his weapon.
It might be something I add to an order later in the year, I'm not jumping for joy over it right now. I'd rather buy a few 5 oz ATB's, but that's me.
What's up with the household limit of 100 each. You think they would keep a lower limit than that the first week.

Since I have all the others in my MS collection going back to 1986, I'll eventually have to get this one and the others of 2012 but no big hurry. Looking at an article in Coin Update, I'm confused as to whether there are going to be 2 or 3 commemorative silver dollars for 2012? The thing is, they're $5 cheaper if you buy them the first week; $44.95 for the Unc.
Sort'a looks like they are running out of ideas.
long guns on the reverse are cool.
Obverse - dumb design. someone got lazy.

There is a statue at Fort Benning, called Iron Mike, famous for the "Follow Me" pose. Benning is the home of the Infantry.
This pose on the coin is an update of uniform and weapon for Iron Mike.
The rifles on the back aren't a design choice, those rifles are the official branch insignia of the Infantry.
Anything else would have been incorrect.
I guess if you are a coin collector and not an Infantryman, a guy in a bunker would have been better.
However, "Hide with Me in this Bunker" is not the motto. It's "Follow Me".
IMO, nobody got lazy. They designed an Infantry coin for the Infantry, upholding traditions.
If you never were in the Infantry, or were a REMF, ask them to make a draft dodger or PAC clerk coin with a more aggressive pose.

I picked up a bunch of each including 5 of the set just to have, plus there are only 50,000 being made.
Can't hurt, but I hate the fact that they didn't make them .999.

Just placed my order for one, being a retired disabled veteran, figured it will be a nice addition to my 2010 American Veteran Disabled for Life Silver Dollar

Thanks but no thanks, no better than a one ounce round and they want 45 and more.
It looks like Iron Mike is getting a phone call and doesn't recognize the number so he's waiting for it to go to voice mail.
I scored a 31 on my ASVAB ..."Follow Me!"
My comments on the front of the coin were out of place yesterday, I hadn't read up on it more before I said them.
My score was a 99 on the ASVAB, though I'm color blind so they would have put me behind a desk. I couldn't join and feel right about having people follow my leadership without experience in the field. That was 11 years ago right before September 11th (I was scheduled to go to basic training on the 10th if my memory serves me).
With a 99 and color blind you could have gone linguist. Post 9/11 they would have probably pushed you into the right language and you would have seen plenty of field time in Iraq or Afghan as an interpreter that's for sure, with close to six figure reenlistment bonuses.
I got offered almost $10,000 during peace time cold war.
All they offered me at the time was a filing clerk position with the advice to sign up for OCS (Officer Candidate School) after basic. I had a college degree in CS as well. I ended up taking a job in CS a month later. I do regret at times not pursuing it further, I felt dejected to be told all I could do was push papers and lead other paper pushers.
