What's the story with the original GIM?

When I first joined this site, I thought that the "2" in GIM2 was a term for "also", but learned since then that there was an original GIM that was lost in May 2010-ish. Why was the original shut down? Just curious. Thanks!

The original founder decided not to keep it going anymore. Personal choice of his. Some of the other founding members weren't ready to let it die and created this site to take its place.

Not to burst anybody's conspiracy bubble but some of you may or may not know that specsaregood was able to salvage a lot of the info from the original site which he archived and posted in links on this site. He didn't get everything but a lot of good stuff was saved.

Damn this english language and it's multiple uses of the same word!!! Haha yes, I did think it meant "also", but I had my suspicions that there was an original GIM back in the day... which would have been a Tuesday if I remember correctly...

I joined the old site, very quickly it was shut down and this one opened. I thought they were trying to lose me.

It is a little harder than that to get rid of me.

All this time I thought this was the joke site and the "Forum that shall not be Named" was the real new site, but it turns out the new rock ridge is the old fake rock ridge and the real new rock ridge is a fake of the real new old rock ridge.

While that was certainly part of it, I think it was more his interests changed, and there's only so many times you can say "buy metals and forget all that crap they spread on Wall St". It was an unpaid, often thankless job, and any normal person would get tired of it.

What was more surprising was the near hysterical reaction of some of the members who acted like they had some kind of perpetual right to access and behaved like a 5 year old who had a toy taken away. Like good little bees, they followed a new queen and set up a new 'no rules' hive, only to find the inherent problems of anarchy followed. Some of the folks that swarmed were simply the kind of folks whose only mission in life is to be obnoxious, abusive and knot headed. Personally, I think the quality of this forum improved when they left.

Until I was informed of the original GIM, I too thought that the 2 in the name was trying to inform the sheeple that, in fact gold is money too! (trying to see how many too/twos I can throw in that sentence)

for me the worst part of losing GIM1 was the loss of easy access to the Survival Forum there was a ton of great info on that site.....i understand it was part of the archived information still available but i have no idea how to access and search it
