Default Another Tungsten filled (Kilo bar) gold bar found

Last time it was a 10 Oz bar found in Germany. This Kilo bar was subjected to closer examination when it was found to be 2 grams light. Looks like the drill and fill crowd is getting better, or maybe this was one of their first "rough" attempts. Click on the link to see the pictures...

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/tungst...d-bar-found-uk

The last time a story of Tungsten-filled gold appeared on the scene was just two years ago, and involved a 500 gram bar of gold full of tungsten, at the W.C. Heraeus foundry, the world's largest metal refiner and fabricator. It also became known that said "gold" bar originated from an unnamed bank. It is now time to rekindle the Tungsten Spirits with a report from ABC Bullion of Australia, which provides photographic evidence of a new gold bar that has been drilled out and filled with tungsten rods, this time not in Germany but in an unnamed city in the UK, where it was intercepted by a scrap metals dealer, and was supplied with its original certificate. The reason the bar attracted attention is that it was 2 grams underweight. Upon cropping it was uncovered that about 30-40% of the bar weight was tungsten. So two documented incidents in two years: isolated? Or indication of the same phenomonenon of precious metal debasement that marked the declining phase of the Roman empire. Only then it was relatively public for anyone who cared to find out on their own. Now, with the bulk of popular physical gold held in top secret, private warehouses around the world, where it allegedly backs the balance sheets of the world's central banks, yet nobody can confirm its existence, nor audit the actual gold content, it is understandable why increasingly more are wondering: just how much gold is there? And alongside that - while gold, (or is it GLD?), can be rehypothecated, can one do the same with tungsten?

    From ABC Bullion:

ABC Bullion received the following email from one of our trusted suppliers this week.

    Note:
It was not ABC Bullion that purchased this bar, the email and photos were sent to us as a general warning.
I xxxx'ed out the city's name to avoid any second guessing as to the name of the dealer.

    19/03/2012:

Attached are photographs of a legitimate Metalor 1000gm Au bar that has been drilled out and filled with Tungsten (W).

This bar was purchased by staff of a scrap dealer in xxxxx, UK yesterday. The bar appeared to be perfect other than the fact that it was 2gms underweight. It was checked by hand-held xrf and showed 99.98% Au. Being Tungsten, it would not be ferro-magnetic. The bar was supplied with the original certificate.

The owner of the business that purchased the bar only became suspicious when he realized the weight discrepancy and had the bar cropped. He estimates between 30-40% of the weight of the bar to be Tungsten.

This is very worrying and reinforces the lengths that people are willing to go to profit from the current high metal prices. Please be careful.

Kinda makes one wonder how many others are lurking (or even stashed away) out there.

Kinda also makes one wonder when they'll start doing the same to smaller bars and even coins.

QWAK,HUMmmmmmmmmm We know that both PAPER GOLD and SILVER are extreamly leveraged they even admited under oath that 100 to 1 is normal or not unusual!

It occures to me that just as in hand to hand combat and just about any confrontation the aponents power and size can be used agentst them and become an ADVANTAGE especialy once they are convinced in there own minds that THEY have already won the game and get over confident and STUPID!

I think we are at that point NOW if not then very close to it.

We know that TPTB have exploited virtualy every aspect of our lives from our food and water and medical needs and that the TOOL that they used -- WEAPON realy -- has been the MONEY we use in exchange for all of our daily wants and needs.

This makes me think perhaps the actual PHYSICAL GOLD and SILVER is even more RARE and IMPORTANT than even WE GOLD and SILVER BUGS realise.

The TRUE VALUE of having REAL GOLD and SILVER that is PURE .999 is 1000% greater and is the KEY to unlocking the CHAINS and LOCKS of SLAVERY DEBT if we can use it to OUR ADVANTAGE and call there BLUFF and win the GAME that they RIGED agenst us!

The power they have WE give to THEM by believing they have POWER and we do NOT!

It is OUR ADVANTAGE that they will do any thing to keep us in FEAR and from knowing so that we continue to SERVE THEM and SURENDER our WORK and EFFORTS to them so they can use US like beasts of burdon to do what they can not do for them selves!

WE do not NEED them -- they NEED us and THAT is what the TRANSITION/PARADIGN shift is realy about!

    the DUCK
"ALL is ONE" What we DO to and FOR others we DO "TO and FOR" our selves ultimitly!

People SELDOM look for TRUTH! What they look for is CONFERMATION that what they have chosen to believe IS TRUTH! This is why people will believe almost ANY THING and also WHY the WORLD is SO MESSED UP!

IT is never realy OVER -- things just CHANGE!

You can QUOTE me on ALL! It IS what I believe to be TRUE!

    I AM, the DUCK

Gold plated Tungsten bars have been circulating for 30 years:

Austrians Seize False Gold Tied to London Bullion Theft

    Reuters
    Published: December 22, 1983

VIENNA, Dec. 21— The Austrian police announced the arrest today of 5 men and the discovery of 10 counterfeit gold bars stamped with numbers and refiner's name to match 6,000 real bars stolen in Britain last month.

The police said the five arrested in Vienna on Tuesday night apparently planned to sell the counterfeit gold, passing it off as part of the haul of three tons of bullion stolen by masked gunmen from a warehouse near London's Heathrow Airport on Nov. 26.

A police spokesman said the police did not know how the men had discovered the numbers stamped on the stolen bars.

The police at first suspected the counterfeit bars were part of the Heathrow booty, but the spokesman said tests showed the bars were made of tungsten and only coated with gold.

The fake bars were seized in a police raid on a hotel where the five men - four Italians and an Austrian - were meeting.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you will read below, the gang hired a smelting expert to destroy the evidence, and it is apparent that it was during this smelting operation, he discovered at least ten of the Gold plated Tungsten bricks, which had been passed off to the five busted above, thus explaining the serial numbers. It looks as though London's finest covered for the original perpetrators; mainly whoever carried out the extremely specialized smelting of the original Tungsten bricks, including serial numbers.

I love a good cover-up story which includes dishonor among thieves (banksters) and all that!

More about the Brinks Mat Heist:

On 26 November 1983, six robbers broke into the Brinks Mat warehouse at Heathrow Airport. It was supposed to be a relatively easy job, stealing £3 million in cash with the help of an inside man. This all changed when, instead of the cash, they found gold bullion worth £26 million.

It appeared at first that the robbery was a huge scale operation that had been extraordinarily well planned. And in reality, the operation was extremely detailed in its planning, but the robbers were expecting to find money, not ten tonnes of gold bullion, waiting to be transported to the Far East.

The £26 million in gold wasn't just lying in a warehouse waiting to be stolen. It was locked in a safe, deep inside a secure airport building surrounded by guards, but that didn't deter the robbers.

Clearly having some insight into the layout of the building, the gang burst into the secure area, disabled the guards and tied them up. In order to force the guards to reveal the combination to the safe, the robbers poured petrol over them and threatened them with lighted matches until they gave in.

When the safe was finally opened, they looked in disbelief on a haul of gold bullion that was far beyond any previous 'cash-only' heists they had ever been involved in. What should have been a five minute "smash 'n' grab" robbery, ended up becoming a lengthy operation. Several members of the gang left the airport to get some different transport because the booty was too big and heavy for their getaway vehicle.

Nearly two hours after they had entered the building, the gang finally made their getaway.
    ...

A final piece in the Brinks Mat puzzle came to light when it was discovered that Perry had introduced Kenneth Noye into the ever-growing circle of Brinks Mat associates. Noye appeared to have some expertise in the gold smelting trade and had connections with John Palmer, the owners of a Bristol-based gold dealership.

Noye's expertise was used to introduce copper to much of the Brinks Mat gold during the smelting process. This changed the carat of the metal and made it impossible to trace back to the Heathrow robbery.

    ...

    More at link.

I've got a post up on the Perth Mint's site on this http://www.perthmintbullion.com/blog...The_Facts.aspx - we don't think this is a common problem for a number of reasons.

Re the smaller bars or coins issue, note that the 10 year old Heraeus case was 500g (16oz) and this recent one 1kg (32oz), which is a fair bit of money for the average person. Crooks are likely to want the best bang for their buck, so small bars and coins (which are harder to fake the finish) are at much lower risk of being the target of fakes IMO.
