Many of the recent generations of cameras, Iphone's and Android devices have built in GPS. When you take a picture using any device with GPS enabled, the lat-lon coordinates are included with the EXIF data that is a part of the image file and is quite easy to read.

In other words, when you take a shot of your stash on your kitchen table and post it on the internet, your your home address is encoded along with it. There are many free EXIF data strippers.

Just be aware.

Not trying to play Chicken Little here. First the camera or phone has to have GPS, then GPS has to be enabled. You can turn the GPS off. Then, most image viewer programs have a way to see the EXIF data so you can check to make sure.

There could be problems in other contexts than PM's too. If you have a camera with built in GPS, you need to think before distributing images.

Interesting, the FBI just caught a big time hacker because he published a picture of his girlfriends breasts but was too stupid to strip the EXIF data from the I Phone shot. The data contained the GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken.

They are deposing me in 2 weeks, then I will depose 3 agents & that should seal the deal, they are in deeeeep $h!t. If not, I will go for summary judgement before I do a jury trial. Attorney wanted $45K, so I'm doing this "pro se" & it's driving them nuts !!!!!! I shouldn't say too much more, bastards are probably listening !!!!

I will be more than happy to expose these thieves for who & what they are. It will be at least another 3 to 6 months. I will enjoy telling my quest, be it win, loose or draw, as it will still expose a corrupt process !!!

DAMN, you got me on that. I knew that GPS phones (photo's) recorded data, but I never gave it a thought that my Canon digital would have hidden data. As for that photo, it is from the fed's camera, so I will look into extrapolating what I can from it. I checked with a friend of mine who is leading me thru the process. Thanks for the heads up !!!!!
