Default Does anyone remember the thread with the multiple chicken tractors?

Maybe a year ago or so there was a thread where a GIMer had posted photos of their chicken tractors. If I remember correctly, they were largely wire, and moved by tractor. The poster had on the order of six of these I think.

We're planning new chicken facilities to replace the eight-year-old coop, which though workable has a number of flaws. I'd like to look into all the possibilities, including the design of the ones that I think were here on GIM!

I've searched--thought that maybe it was Lt. Dan that had posted the design, but his is coop design is taller and more elaborate.

Thank you for any help that you can provide!

I remember the thread, but don't know where it is.

Here's a google search on the subject http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/ch...n-coop-designs

You can get this book on Ebay pretty cheap. 45 different coop designs. I have one, haven't gotten around to raising chickens just yet.

    Thanks, all.

I'm a longtime member of Backyard Chickens, but I believe it's here that I saw those cool tractors. I've searched through the BYC photos quite a bit.

I'm thinking of building my own, from a model similar to this commercially-available one, but with very different materials and different form that I hope will better withstand the high winds here. Plus, the PVC used in this commercial one WILL age in the sun.

I'm kind of envisioning kind of an igloo-ish structure on the coop side of it, formed of a steel shell and then covered over with stucco mesh and stucco'd. It will need to be ventilated (chickens need ventilation--even in winter--to vent the moisture and ammonia fumes). Right now it's kind of a crazy idea in my head. I wish that I could model this stuff in a wind tunnel.

Looks like a magnet for hungry zombies. A floating KFC after TSHTF. Way too nice.

We had a rooster once with one leg, big guy, almost thirteen pounds, big Rhode Island Red. He lost his other leg to a coon trap.

He would rule the roost by hopping around on the one leg like a pirate,, little bastard would chase you away from his hens and attack you. With that one leg.

Those are the kind of birds I would want for what is coming. And a house to match.

Seriously, I think Joel Salatin has a lot of good ideas. He has a book called "Poultry Pasture Profits"... or something like that.
