What is a good pocket scale for silver buying?

Searched the forum for any post like this. So if there are any point me that way.

Ok so im a newb to the silver game but I want to make sure im doing som due diligents to make sure im buying real silver. Checking by weight seems to me to be a good way to help in this effort. So if you have any pocket type scales that yall have found better than others please share.

And if you have any other things we newbs should be looking for when buying any wisdom would be appreciated.

I picked up a pair of digital ones on fleabay for like 10 bucks a piece w/ free shipping. Measures to the tenths in grams, thousandths to the ounce, tenths in pennyweight and grains. Also has tare mode. I keep one at home and leave the other in the van.

How reliabel is it? What is the brand?

I've got the Tanita Professional Mini. Thing is badass. Takes a beating like a champ.

Be sure to get one with a test weight for calibration. You can't get one with two decimal accuracy for $10 but you'd be better off with that, especially if you ever buy gold.

I've got a number of scales or different makes but they all seem to work within their rated accuracy. They all "wander" a few hundredths over time, hence the need for a calibration weight and function.

I have found with most forums, for search to work somewhat right you have to do the search from the index page (main) of the forum. If you search from a sub-forum the search is confined to that sub-forum.

Oh yeah, get a set of digital calipers too. They've been known to make the coin dimensions too large so the weight comes in right. I found an accurate set at Harbor Freight for about $14.

already have calipers as i use them for work quite a bit. how about a link with silver coin diameters? How about thickness that should be a good measurement too or no because of wear?

What about a loupes any one better than another? What kind of magnification is a good one to look at the coins?

I don't care much for loupes, look at a Hastings Triplet magnifier, 10X.

I've had a My Weigh F3 Flip Scale for years now and I take it with me for every purchase. It was very inexpensive and I'm still on the original battery. I recommend it to anyone who asks about scales without ANY reservations. It's one of those purchases you make in life that every time you use it you remind yourself "that was some of the best money I ever spent".

Oh by the way, I forgot to mention the lifetime warranty.

I also agree with TomD that the inexpensive Harbor Freight calipers work just fine.
