Looking for a way to hide valuables in my house. Any ideas on where and how?
Thinking of concealled spaces. Out of sight is out of mind. Thanks.

Thanks Nickelless,
It takes a thief to catch a thief. It is my belief that thieves dont want to work for thier loot.
One of my ideas is to build a dummy wall inside of a closet. Remove the shelves and take out the panel. Floor boards are a good way I think too.
Not even considering Safe Deposit Boxes though.

The cabinets in your kitchen, with the drawers on the bottom, can easily be made into a concealed location. Take out the drawer and cut a "door" in the bottom of the cabinet box. There is alot of empty space behind the toekick of your cabinets. With the drawer back in it is 100% hidden. Even if a robber pulled the drawer to look inside, the compartment would still be hidden.
This is a feature that I offer on my custom cabinets. I charge an extra $100 to make the hidding spot and 90% of the people I offer it to, add it on. The last kitchen I built, the homeowner had me add this to all their base cabinets.
The small, fire resistant safes fit in these spots nicely.

I have a great idea, but I can't tell you. Sorry

That is understood. Just as I don't want to give out TMI. I mean, I really don't own anything of value anyway. But, if I did have anything worth stealing, where could I hide it is all I was wondering.
Also should make it clear that I am not trying to find everyones secrets. Honestly.

I don't feel the least bit worried about posting hiding places. I work from home and am on my property 97% of the time. Of that 97% of the time, I am within reach of a firearm 99.5% of the time. Come on by and try to take my stuff. If I'm not here, wave at the camera and say hi to Elsa, my 175# English Mastiff.

Nice.I work from home as well. Loaded firearms all over the house within easy reach, yet not immediately apparent to a cursory glance. Five in the kitchen alone. And feel free to say hi to Apollo, my 170 pound Kuvasz, if you should happen to come by when I am not at home. At least he will kill you quickly - that damn Jack Russell will only inflict painful ankle wounds.

Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy)—a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

The US Government was designed to prevent people from killing and stealing our property.
But today, the government kills and takes our property.

this isn't practice
if you have a home invasion( we just had one a few miles from here) when they get done working on your family, you'll tell and give them everything they want. better make your doors and windows safe now and not with those silly stickers that say the home is protected by alarms. the old false wall and floor board safes went out in the eighteen hundreds.
any hollow doors at your place ?, cut an opening at the top
put something inside a loaf of bread and then put the bread in the freezer
skills beat gadgets and practicality beats style
fire is life, so know it, understand it and make it your friend
the cold doesn't care whether you live or die
TSHTF does not mean you stop living
you just change your definition of a " good life "

Thanks for all the input people.
May dedicate one corner of the house to block off and make a safe room. Solid door, reinforced jambs, wood walls.
We do have 4 mini dachs that bark at nothing and everything, but in the event someone isn't deterred by ankle nippers, I still would have to protect things from others hands, ie. my chocolate bars, Calvin and Hobbes books and all the other stuff I hold dear to me.
Will let you know if I can think of something a little more cooler and craftier.

There are a lot of statistics compiled regarding burglaries.
Some of the stats I found interesting was that over half of burglaries are done by people
the victims knew. Which is to say that people who talk about their upcoming vacations
on Facebook are idiots. This also underscores the idea that you do not tell people you own,
or worse, store PMs in your house.
The average thief is usually a teenager who lives within a mile or two of your home. When
hiding your stuff, see through the eyes of a teen.
Most important, the average burglar only spends between 8 to 12 minutes rooting through
your things. The main target initially being the master bedroom. Most burglars want to be
in and out in under an hour. Time works against them.
I'm not going to tell you where to hide your PMs but hopefully these stats can help you
decide where not to hide them.

This ain't hiding, but it is tres effective:
According to the Sheriff's Assoc., houses with flags in front of them are avoided by burglars/zombies. They invariably indicate that the owner of the house is armed, and therefore not to be furgled with.
So... put up a flag. It is patriotic anyway.
Second: A discreet but easily noticed sign saying, "Nothing here is worth your life."

The best place of all to hide high value items like PMs and spare ammo is to bury it. Put it in a waterproof container and put it in the ground.
I have a neighbor with a sign at the road that says TRESPASSERS WILL BE KILLED. I have not personally tested its effectiveness, just in case he means it.
