IMF gets $456 billion for crisis firewall

Managing Director fo the IMF Christine Lagarde speaks on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders Summit in Cabo San Lucas. Lagarde said on Monday that member states had promised a total of $456 billion (361 billion euros) for its new crisis fund, $26 billion more than a target set in April.

AFP - IMF chief Christine Lagarde said on Monday that member states had promised a total of $456 billion (361 billion euros) for its new crisis fund, $26 billion more than a target set in April.

China, which had held back on how much it would offer for months, will contribute $43 billion, according to the IMF.

"With today's announcements by an additional 12 countries, a total of 37 IMF member countries... have joined this collective effort, demonstrating the broad commitment of the membership to ensure the IMF has access to adequate resources to carry out its mandate in the interests of global financial stability," Lagarde said.

"Countries large and small have rallied to our call for action, and more may join. I salute them and their commitment to multilateralism. As a result, total pledges have risen to $456 billion, almost doubling our lending capacity."

Awesome! They're going to "give" them $456 billion so the IMF can lend it back to them. I'm so glad that these bankers are so much smarter than me.

These stories are such beatup. There is no cash, just "pledges" and they have a pretty much zero chance of collecting on the bulk of them. That's why the Fed needs to be audited. The IMF is a US controlled organization and my guess is that for years TPTB have secretly funnelled money to them so the Banksters can play their sociopathic international bank-mail games.

Audit the Fed and let's see where the money flows. I bet there are untold $Billions over rather past 60 years that have gone to the IMF via the Fed illegally . . .

Every "penny" of that $456 billion is not "money", it is debt. A dollar is not a "dollar", it is a Federal Reserve Note. A "note" is debt. Same for all the other phony phiat pledges.

Audit the Fed? Why, don't you trust us?

Next you will claim our money is merely celluloite.

We could give the IMF fifty quadbillion million Zillion dollars and it's none of ur concern. This merely keeps our King's Armies rolling through the desert.

BTW, how those new troops we sent over working out? Takin it easy on the ladies I hope.

    Bummer!

Only $26 Billion more than expected, but interesting that, according to Calderon, the fed did not provide any of the credit. China perhaps?

Mexican president expects IMF to raise more than $430 billion firewall pledged this year

By Associated Press, Published: June 16

LOS CABOS, Mexico — G20 summit host President Felipe Calderon of Mexico said Saturday that he expects the world’s largest economies to deliver more than the $430 billion pledged to stop the spread of the European financial crisis.

Calderon told a small group of reporters that he expects “there to be capitalization that’s bigger” than the amount fund members promised in April. He called International Monetary Fund recapitalization one of the key tests of the success of the summit.

The Mexican president said Saturday that he doesn’t expect the United States to contribute to the recapitalization, something that he said showed the importance of emerging economies. The money would be used to bail out countries and key industries unable to borrow money on the open market due to fears the crisis will leave them unable to repay.

“I expect there to be a very important agreement on the IMF,” he said. “It will have a transcendental importance for many reasons, primarily because it will probably be the most important capitalization agreement that the fund has had in its history.

“Secondly, it will be the first time that the fund is capitalized without the United States,” he said. “On this occasion the leadership of the United States wasn’t necessary.”

Group of 20 leaders are gathering for a two-day summit starting Monday that will be dominated by the crisis in Europe.

China indeed......China Leads Nations Boosting IMF’s Firewall to $456 Billion,

Emerging-market nations including China and Brazil formalized funding pledges to the International Monetary Fund, helping to almost double its lending power to protect the world economy from Europe’s debt turmoil.

With the addition of new pledges from 12 nations that also includes Russia, India and South Africa, the Washington-based lender said it now has received funding commitments of $456 billion, up from the roughly $430 billion it said it had secured in April. The temporary contributions will add to the $380 billion the IMF currently has available for lending.
