Default Sai Kadou Hantai! Japanese citizens against the restart 45,000 protest

Last friday it was 11,000. The Japanese media completely ignored it:

This friday it was 45,000 outside of the prime minister's residence. The report from inside the the prime minister's residence is that the sound is deafening.

They will keep doing this every friday.

Keep in mind this is a country that has virtually not had a single protest for 40 years.

This guy got in a taxi to film it. Notice, no protesters taunting police, nor police pepper spraying or arresting protesters.

Finally, a peep got through on Asahi TV. Not NHK (gov't channel) or Yomiuri (CIA project).

45,000 People Protested Against Ooi Restart in Front of PM Official Residence in Tokyo on June 22, 2012, Media Finally Report

(UPDATE) Video of TV Asahi program reporting the protest in the latest post.

    =========================================

Well well. People in Japan did it the old-fashion way to attract media attention (not that they did it to attract attention, but...). Every single media in Japan ignored the protest on June 15 with 11,000 (or 12,000) people, but they just couldn't ignore the June 22 crowd of 45,000. (The number is according to the organizers. The police puts the number at 11,000.)

(The photographs are from Mainichi Shinbun. There are more at Mainichi's site. Amazing.)

Quick report from Tokyo Brown Tabby (original in Japanese; I translated it quickly, may revise later):

Just now, TV Asahi's program "Hodo Station" [news and commentary show] took up the protest in front of the Prime Minister's Official Residence earlier today [June 22].

The program devoted a decent amount of time reporting the protest, it did mention 45,000 protesters - the number as announced by the organizers, it also said the protesters were just totally ordinary people. They even interviewed several organizers. A female newscaster of the program went there as a reporter and interviewed them. The program further mentioned that the protest is carried out every Friday, and that it started out with only a few hundred people but the number has grown rapidly.

What was amazing was that the reporter went inside the PM Official Residence during the protest and picked up the sound from the protest. It was deafening.

The reporter even asked Edano and Hosono, "So what do you think of the demonstration outside?" [TBT didn't say what their answer was.]

The main newscaster of the program Furutachi was positive on the demonstration, saying that the demonstration was "the voice of ordinary citizens" and that the politics in Japan had become so dissociated with the ordinary citizens. A commentator on the program tried to change the subject and started to say the Japanese citizens should also turn their attention to the contradiction that Japan is showing the sign of moving away from nuclear power generation but at the same time selling nuclear power plants to foreign countries. Mr. Furutachi cut him off, and said "We should first tackle the contradiction of restarting nuclear power plants while the Fukushima I Nuke Plant accident is far from over."

Why did they suddenly decide to report the protest? Last week [June 15], I thought it would be them, if anyone should report. But they didn't. It's a mystery. Anyway, it was a very decent report.
Tokyo Brown Tabby didn't go this time, but plans to go to the future ones. TBT also says there is a plan to surround the National Diet building on July 29.

According to the Japanese mainstream media who suddenly decided to report this 45,000-strong protest in the central Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police put the number at 11,000. Some news outlets (like FNN) only reports this lower number, but Mainichireported "45,000", so did Tokyo Shinbun.

I just noticed the FNN news video starts out by focusing on a very small contingent of ultra-right nationalists (the "black truck" people), as if the protest were being done by extremists. The June 16 protest, which some media did report, was framed as if it were about ultra-left extremists.

Asahi Shinbun decided to report only the protest in front of KEPCO in Osaka City, where 1,500 people gathered to protest the restart of Ooi Nuke Plant. Yomiuri Shinbun completely ignored both protests, so did NHK. True to form.

    (Mainichi)

(FNN screen shot, right after the focus on ultra-right nationalists):

May all living beings have happiness and the causes of happiness; May all living beings be free from misery and the causes of misery; May all living beings never be separated from boundless joy; May all living beings abide in equanimity free from grasping and aversion.

You know that stage of boiling water where you start to see the first tiny bubbles appearing on the bottom of the pot?

Fukushima will be Japan's 9/11, in terms of waking people up from the trance that the government is there to help...

It's going to take a few years to undo 65 years of CIA brainwashing about the benefits and safety of nukes.

    Fukushima already is Japan's 9/11.

Since the earthquake/tsunami occurred on 3/3/2011 the number meme has taken hold throughout all of japanese culture and is referred to in the press, documentaries, blogosphere and other net communications as 3/11.

The Japanese are scared, confused, trapped and still grieving over the loss of home, income, business, scarce land as well as dealing with having their "normalcy bias" totally flipped around. remember, these people haven't had a sizable protest in 40 years. These people equated their emperor with god. These people enjoy a quiet life. These people these people are still suffering a nearly 25 year economic decline. Their government has lied to them and continues to do so. TEPCO not only lies but takes NO responsibility for the Fukushima mess and does NOT intend to take responsibility. The widespread radiation has circulated ALL around the world and has brought HUGE embarassment to the Japanese. In effect, Japanworld has collapsed all around them and they have been instantly exposed to the reality of the world. They have been in shock and are now recovering and they are getting angry, very angry. Now they face not only local evacuations on top of their losses, it is rumored that thewy are also facing a possible NATIONAL evacuation! Talk about stress! And in all of this the earthquakes continue...And now TEPCO as well as the government wants to restart nuclear reactors run, of course, by the same incompetents that brought them Fukushima. From the govcorp perspective this is threatening to get very ugly...

In the end, the hasty announcement of the re-starting of reactors at the Oi plant was probably the straw that broke the camel’s back. This past Friday, June 22nd, saw the Kasumigaseki district overwhelmed with protestors. And this time, the major Japanese mainstream media were there, from Asahi Shinbun to the Mainichi Daily News. There were interviews with individuals and live footage from the street; one reporter even ventured into the government building where officials were attempting to work. The noisy din from outside had penetrated through to interior (EX-SKF describes it as “deafening”), and the Prime Minister could not have been a happy camper. The reporter attempted to get a reaction from both the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, both of whom were at a loss for words. There are many official and non-official versions of the event, but I always enjoy EX-SKF, so here’s his report.

The demo made the NHK news at 10:00 on Friday night–a rather long segment devoted to the demo and the anti-nuclear movement–and I grinned in astonishment as I whacked my unsuspecting husband. ”Look! There you are! I told you so: you missed history! You could’ve BEEN there!” And, for the first time, he did not huff in dismissal or make light of the situation. My friend Kimiko said it was the same with her husband. And my guess is that the mainstream media coverage probably tipped the scales in our favor for other dubious husbands as well.
The rest of this blog post is probably not worth the time... http://www.dianuke.org/japan-after-f...tion-underway/

Maybe, if 9/11 had spread literal (not figurative) poison throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
