Default a new low: thought crime nets LIFE sentence

    down the slippery slope......head first

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/11/us...-sentence.html

A soldier who was absent without leave from a fort in Kentucky and plotted to kill other soldiers near Fort Hood remained defiant on Friday as he was sentenced to life in prison, vowing never to end what he considered his holy war.

The soldier, Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo, sat alone in court with his hands shackled and a white cloth secured over his mouth and neck.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I feel like they got the right guy here.

    AWOL: check
    Muslim Convert: check
Threats of never ending Jihad and wishing to be a martyr: check
    Bomb Making Materials: check

Nope, hard to see an injustice here. Rot you bastard.

Evidence is easily fabricated, and cops are notorious liars whose job is to foment probable cause. Furthermore, trials are notoriously one-sided due to the near-100% conviction rate, reminiscent of show trials in the Soviet Union.

In a police interview, Mr. Abdo said his plan was to place a bomb in a busy restaurant near Fort Hood, wait outside and shoot anyone who survived, and become a martyr after the police killed him.

So what YOU ARE SAYING IS, the guy needed TO KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS before the police did anything?

So what you ARE SAYING IS, being CAUGHT WITH BOMB MAKING MATERIALS AND ADMITTING YOU WANT TO KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS is only a thought process.

Well excuse me, but seems to me that if YOU HAVE THE SAME THOUGHT PROCESS, IE YOU WANT TO KILL AMERICANS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, not the solution.

typical dimwit reply -- focusing on this isolated case

the repurcussions of this type of prosecution are the real issue

NOBODY should be convicted on what they think -- esp harsh punishment like LIFE SENTENCES

Got to disagree with you on this one. The need only to prove motive & intent. His own words provided both.

    EO,

I guess you missed the part WHERE HE GOT A TRIAL and I'm pretty sure he said the EXACT SAME THING IN COURT.

Islamic FANATICS aren't what you would call the sharpest knife in the drawer.

If you have bad things you THINK about, AND KEEP THEM TO YOURSELF AND DO NOT ACT ON ANY OF THEM, you won't end up like this guy.

But, have bad thoughts, PLAN THEM OUT, purchase the bomb making materials, GET CAUGHT BY THE POLICE AND ADMIT WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO WITH THEM.

WELL, YOU DESERVE TO GO TO JAIL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

The truth is, in ISLAM, if this guy had done this, they are NOT the pansies our judicial system is. They would have taken this guy out back of the courthouse and put one through his brain stem AND CHARGED HIS FAMILY FOR THE BULLET.

Hey cupcake, get a life. LEARN HOW TO READ WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED before posting stupid stuff on this site. And then saying STUPID STUFF about what you apparently did not read or at least comprehend.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Guess that sums up how I feel about it. Liberty isn't safe but it is irreplaceable.

Oh and to head off any ad hominems by wallew, I did read as much of the trial info as was available. Seems a lot of it just wasn't published yet (normal) or is 'classified'. Apparently there is no actual court record of this individual saying anything.

PRETTY SURE YOU DIDN'T read what you posted.

'to petition the government for a redress of grievances'

DOES NOT INCLUDE MAKING BOMBS AND KILLING PEOPLE

That sums up how I FEEL about it.

You cannot trade freedom for safety.

And ANYONE who wants to blow US CITIZENS UP without FIRST trying the whole 'petition the government' that this guy did not. NO ONE IN ISLAM DOES THAT.

He was absent without leave last summer when he was arrested with bomb-making materials at a motel in the Fort Hood area.
This isn't some wannabe bragging on Facebook--this loser was in the process of building bombs. That isn't a "thoughtcrime"--that's a "committing a crime". Is that distinction lost on you?

I'm sure if the Arabs had nicely asked the CIA to stop overthrowing their governments and supporting dictators we would be all cinnamon farts and rainbows now.

The fact of the matter is that big government not respecting and protecting people's rights and sovereignty is what the plague on humanity is.

The CIA created al ciada and supports the Saudi kingdom, the government also gave billions of dollars to hosni mubarak and to Israel... and lets not forget the wars over WMDs.

Maybe one day corruption and hatred will be removed and mankind will be able to progress past the stage of being a parasite who is only racing to deplete the world of its resources and shedding blood along the way for the sake of making money... and finally, live in peace harmony with their brothers and the planet.

How is this a thought crime? He made up a plan and was actually trying to build a bomb. If you can prove a case using physical evidence, then obviously it wasn't just in his head.

Now if you think he got set up, that is an entirely different issue. Though this obviously isn't a thought crime.

If you owned a gun and you thought about it, then wrote out plans and publicly declared you are going to kill him then go out to buy special armor piercing rounds to shoot through his armor car, than yea that is totally a crime. I can't believe that your defense of this guy is that you should be able to plan and carry out attacks, and it only becomes illegal when you kill someone.

So I guess you think his possession of child pornography was just a thought crime also, what, you think he should get caught molesting children before he is stopped? Fine upstanding Islamic convert you are trying to defend.

    ------------------------------------------------

His conscientious objector status was put on hold after he was charged with possessing child pornography in May 2011. Two months later, during the Fourth of July weekend, Abdo went AWOL from the Kentucky Army post.

your assumptions are the assumptions of a mental midget

you think because he is charged with viewing child porn that he has committed child sex abuse?

you think that because you watch movies with murder that you have committed murder?

Jamal Abdo was caught in a police sting asking a 15-year-old girl for sex 45 times. A Garland, Texas detective posed online as the girl. He was arrested after showing up at the ‘girl’s’ home to have sex with her. He was deported and is living in Jordan, although he is Palestinian. Click the link above to Ironic Surrealism to read the entire story of Jamal Rateb Abdo.

Naser Abdo’s mother, Corlisa Morlan was convicted of drug violations, prostitution and theft in 2001 and 2002.

Naser’s sister says she is shocked, and let me tell ya, if she grew up in the U.S. and went to school here, which it seems she did, her teachers should lose their tenure and benefits. *A neighbor who went to school with Naser says he was ‘mean.’*Just click the link above to read the interview.

Back to Naser Abdo, he refused to stand in court today. We know that Naser was AWOL at the time he was apprehended, and we know he went AWOL after authorities found child pornography on his government computer. As Ironic Surrealism pointed out, Naser Abdo is a pedophile

    Daily Journal:

*He [Naser] was born in Texas to a non-denominational Christian mother and a Muslim father. Jamal Abdo said they divorced in 1993.

Police and the Army say Abdo admitted plotting an attack, but in Fuhais, Jordan, his father insisted the allegations were “all lies from A to Z.”…

Naser Abdo said he became a Muslim when he was 17. He said he enlisted thinking that Army service would not conflict with his religious beliefs, but reconsidered as he explored Islam further.

“I realized through further reflection that god did not give legitimacy to the war in Afghanistan, Iraq or any war the U.S. Army could conceivably participate in,” he wrote in his conscientious objector application.

Abdo was approved as a conscientious objector this year, but that status was put on hold after he was charged in May with possessing child pornography. Abdo denied the charge before this week’s arrest.

    Jamal Abdo:

Police and the Army say Abdo admitted plotting an attack, but in Fuhais, Jordan, his father insisted the allegations were “all lies from A to Z.”

“My son loved people no matter who they are, whether Jews or Christians,” Jamal Abdo said. “Naser is not the kind of a person who harbors evil for the other people, he cannot kill anyone*and he could not have done any bad thing.”

Have to wonder if Jamal Abdo knew anything leading up to Nidal Hasan’s murderous attack on Ft. Hood where 14 died and 30 were injured. After 25 years in Killeen, he had to know a lot of people in the Muslim community. Just asking…*Read the details of Naser Abdo’s arrest and charges here.

We know that Naser was AWOL at the time he was apprehended, and we know he went AWOL after authorities found child pornography on his government computer. .....

That is a short article. It said he was convicted of 6 charges. Only list one. Attempting to use a wmd. What were the other convictions? Did I miss something?

    Here is the deal:

I may rail on how I disagree with the government and it's actions... BUT when a sworn enemy is here in my country, threatening or actually causing harm to my own innocent countrymen, then I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. If I could, I would take them out myself.

**** all those who are sympathetic to would be muslim terrorists in our home grounds.

Thought is not a crime, but ACTING upon it is. It's not a crime to think of killing people, perhaps some of us have gotten angry enough to want to kill, but going out and getting bomb making materials is NOT A THOUGHT, it's an action. Tie that in with his own words and admission and you have an open and shut case.

So the child porn was a set up? There's just too much evidence against that theory. He asked for sex online and then SHOWED UP. Who forced this guy to show up at a stranger's door? Who forced him to go AWOL? These are his own actions and can't be refuted by any set-up theory, sorry.

Watching a movie about murder, doesn't make you a murderer.

Watching child porn doesn't make you a molester.

Looking up how to build a bomb online doesn't make you a bomber.

Going out and trying to actually build a bomb while threatening to kill everyone with it, most definitely makes you a criminal though. What you don't seem to be able to grasp is that a thought crime is about thoughts, and he wasn't arrested for the what he was thinking but because he was actually in the process of trying to kill people. At least there seems to be enough evidence to show that, and so he is going to court.

I dare you to send a text threatening someone, see how fast you are questioned face to face. And they will be a charge. Once outside your head the thought is no longer just yours to ponder others have to take notice and be concerned. You would be also if the text was received by you or a loved one. I’ve read you and clearly see the angle you play from, but this time you’re ingesting too much of your own spew.

Interesting that they have 15 year old police detectives.

See the problem here? She wasn't under age, she said she was. She's a liar.

These may seem like minor points but they are actually important to people who want to live in a free country.

If this guy actually molested a child then through the book at him, but they Scott Rittered and Chris Hansened this guy for asking a grown woman for sex.

The Devils Cult in my opinion.
Not since 9/11, nobody cared before those 3000 people died.

Since then many more people died choking on peanuts and in traffic accidents than terrorism but driving is still legal. In fact texting while driving is still legal where I live, you can even eat peanuts while you do it.

People used to threaten each other all the time and you couldn't get the police to do anything - and things were better!

People lack perspective these days. If someone kills 40 people they think it's the end of the world, it's really not a big deal in the larger scheme of things.

This piddly garbage is not worth giving up your freedom to live in a world of cameras, precrime and storm troopers.
