From a tactical standpoint, she should not have left her house. I have made this mistake before as well when someone was outside doing something they shouldn't. After watching a news report for a guy went out to confront a robber, had the bad guy at gunpoint and the bad guys buddy killed the homeowner, I really had to reasses.. Stay in your house, stay in the KNOWN.

But good for her. Always glad to see the bad guy get his. Too bad she didn't hit a major artery.

That's a bit of a stretch Ebie. Don't misunderstand, I get your point, BUT the perp in this case was clearly a threat to her from the beginning. Zimmerman could have simply drove away or even sat in his car and watched the suspect. Having said all that I think your point is valid on some level. What if it was a crusty old white guy who left his house to stab a black suspect while his back was turned? Make no mistake he would be facing charges if the national media picked up on it.

What she did was against the written rules of self defense.
By the written rules she should have stayed in the house and called 911.
They would have told her to stay in the house.

By the unwritten rules of Texas self defense she will be OK legally:
1) Black on black.
2) Female
3) Grandmother
4) Did not use a gun.
5) Used a kitchen implement
6) Perpetrator did not die
7) Took place in Texas. (Juries there generally won't convict her on this.)

Unless they start to torch your home or business (see Detroit, L.A. Riots, etc.). Then you don't have time to hide and wait for the police/fire department/National Guard to come save you.
