Have any of you ever used a pellet stove???My youngest son bought a pellet smoker for his restaurant.Slicker than heck.Just get the fire going, then put on the ribs shoulders chicken, what even. It has a thermostat you set for desired smoking temperature, set timer, and forget it.It really works. But I am wondering about a pellet heat stove,

A pellet stove for the smoker is just fine as long as there is grid power and pellets.

Pellet stoves will be problematic with no grid power...NO BLOWER...NO AUGER PELLET FEED...NO THERMOSTAT CONTROL

QWAK,brewer,Befor they started making ETHANAL out of CORN for FUEL the pellet stoves were for burning CORN as a cheep way to heat your house!

When they first came out there was a year long waiting list to buy one!

QWAK,Zilver,If you heat with wood in a two storey house and locate the water tank on the second floor, the thermo syphon works much better!

Also by increasing the size of the copper tubing you will also see improvment!

I did this my self here at the DUCK NEST but I intigrated it in to the whole house hot water system --- with the out put of the heat syphon heater going in to my electric water heater, the electric only comes on when there is a large amout of hot water being drawn out.

I also removed the insolation from the water tank so that when I am burning wood in the stove the water tank on the second floor also becomes a RADIATOR up there!

When I am not burning wood like in the summer the water in the tank warms up to air temp befor going to the electric water heater greatly reducing the amount of BTUs nessary to heat the water as my ground water from my well is about 47 degrees year round.

Have a memphis pellet grill and have nothing but absolute admiration for the technology. Pellet stoves actually came first, utilizing sawdust from variuos processes into a form easy to handle and burn. These huge grinders used when clearing, group everything into wrokable size that is then fine ground and run through a pelletizer, creating feed pellet sized bits of wood. They really put out the heat. Heating pellets often have traces of chemicals from those various processes, not harmful if burned and exhausted, but should never be used in grill. Cooking pellets are always just hardwood or a blend of just hardwoods.


Cost wise the small rocket stove put out a whole lot of heat from a small pile of sticks or split up pieces.

I know this is heresy to the purists, but I use a dremel tool to sharpen my chains. It takes me about 120 seconds per chain and the chains cut straight.

Flame away.
