I meant weighing them yourself to save the time of hand sorting and narrowing your rolls down to ones that potentially have silver in them

The last 2 weeks (I buy 1 box per week) I only netted one 40%.
I was getting discouraged.

Then this weeks box (my 15'th) These gems fell out! I just couldn't believe it!

With the exception of 1 really good box, May was not overly kind to me either. Found 4-90% (Including 1 Walker and 1 Ben) and 6-40% in one box, and one more 40% in another box. Otherwise, I was skunked the remaining 6 of 8 boxes for the month. Also got skunked on ~$300.00 in dimes...I'm about done with these little suckers, or perhaps I'm the sucker?!?

One random roll of quarters today - got a '64 and a '30 Standing Liberty. Haven't seen one of those in every-day change for ages.

Has anyone ever tried prospecting by just weighing a roll on a digital scale? I know with wear some coins will lose a little bit of weight, but it could help you narrow it down so that you can hand pick the heavier rolls. Any thoughts?

The weights of a clad kennedy is 11.34g the 90% Ag is 12.5g and the 40% is 11.5g. Quarters are 5.67g clad and 6.25g 90%. Got the information from www.coinflation.com. Dont forget to figure in the weight of the paper roll.

Anyone thought of asking US banks what they do with canadian change they recieve? Some of that might be silver floating around pre 67(80%) quarters and dimes for example. Also the US dollar is worth less than the canadian right now so it is a way of getting an exchange rate without the trade fee attached.

I get enough canadian coin in my boxes, so I know what they do with it- they roll it and box it same as American. And yes from time to time I get a silver one. HH Mark

Bought a $1.00 sweet tea at McD's today ($1.12 w/tax for the great State of Illinois). Paid $1.25, got back over $2.50 in change!

Yep - the dime was a 1962!

Don't we all. This month so far I have found more dimes than halves out of roughly the same # of boxes and only found (1) 90% so far. Dimes/halves 27/17. I have switched two banks to dimes from halves, after next week it will be 3. Tomarrow I pick up 3K in dimes, Tuesday I get 3K halves at one bank and 2K in dimes at another. Gotta change things up a bit and see what happens before I just have to quit. Talked to a bank today that had to quit ME last year about buying the bags off the coin counter. Wish I'd asked a long time ago as they said that would be fine. Will go around to the other branches next week and see ifn I can get the same treatment. Just ain't ready to quit yet, cheap silver is worse than heroin haha. Annual coin show end of the month, maybe I will shoot the wad there if silva drops enough- although gold still looking cheap at 42:1 but I expect the ratio to hit 50+ shortly. Could go to Costco and stock up on beans and rice. Or maybe take a trip while the oil is still flowing. Wish ME luck with them dimes for awhile and maybe the halves will come back and I can switch back cause I really don't know how long I will have the patience to do 50+ boxes a week. HH all, Mark

Well tomorrow i fly out to my dads and will be doing some prospecting in La Isla del Encanto. Last time my dad hit the bank he cleaned them out for a bag which had 240+ 40%ers. He always hits the jackpot and 9/10 comes out with good silver. Let the games begin...

Well so far I got 1 Merc and 7 Roos out of 10 boxes so I at least made gas $ once again, more dimes today so hope for the best. Nice thing about dimes is the good ones are all 90%, none of that pesky 40% stuff. HH all, Mark

Well...started hitting the banks already and only managed to score 5 rolls total from about10 banks. The final tally is 4-68' and 1-64'

We'll have an order in for a bag of $1,000 in halves so we'll see how that goes.

So managed to hit some more banks today...one bank in particular had $110 worth of halves. All in all we searched today $147.50 worth of halves and the final tally for today is:

23-40%
1- 90% Kennedy

Not bad of a day and we're getting our $1,000 bag sometime this week

Well I'm losin the faith quick. Yesterdays 6 boxes of halves="0", 4 boxes of dimes gave up 5 Roos. 4 boxes of halves today, might better snag some dimes to make sure I get a fix. Dad said he may have to sell a couple ozs AU to make ends meet- got halve a mind to buy them myself with my hunting money and just give up. BTW about 20 boxes dimes over the weekend gave up 25 Roos, lot of work for them lil slivers but I will continue for awhile longer. HH all, Mark

3 Dime Boxes ($750) yield me 2 silver roosevelt dimes, and one shaved copper CENT.
Im getting a couple more boxes of dimes just to see if I can get a box with more than 1 silver dime in it.
I gave up on the half dollars for awhile, after going thru over 12 boxes of them, and only finding 1 90%, and 8 40% halves.
I haven't tried quarters yet.

Been pounding away at the dimes, 9 boxes Thur gave up 13 slivers. 7 boxes Fri gave up 11 & yesterdays 9 boxes gave up 8. That comes out to 32 slivers from 25 boxes, likely do 20+ more boxes today and tomarrow. Not exactly making wages with them but still making gas $$$. Think I need to find a 12 step program. So I turned my 1 USD investment into 10 in about 10 minutes. AND I found a major bank that usually has them on hand for customers, so I must not be the only "picker"

I wouldn't waste the time with dimes. I have NEVER found or even seen one in change. Stick to the halves and always ask for those " big round "OLD" dollars" never mention the word silver!

Well my dad and I picked up the 2 bags of $1,000 each and it was less than we expected. We still managed to score out of $2,000 11 lonely 40%.

The standout was a 40% 1976 Bicentennial Half. Nice catch and one for my type set. Wont be able to get more bags since they normally take a few days to get and Ill be flying out on Monday. CWRs can be an option when we see a bank but Im not sure i want to spend the last 5 days here in Puerto Rico searching for coins. Rather spend it in the sun
All in all our total tally looks like 41-40%ers and 2 lonely 64s. Split two ways between dad and I of course
