Where'd you say dad moved to again brother? LOL Congrats to him. HH Mark

Wish i could tell you but lets just say he is not stateside. What irks me the most is that he has had so much success in the past, stopped for like a year and now he is somewhat starting again. He has no clue how good he has it. Lets just say when I visit him I will go loaded with FRN and I expect to leave with plenty of silver.
One roll he found a while back was nothing but Walkers. He cant grasp the idea that where he is at people are not silver savvy. Me thinks that there are lots of people, old folks especially that have cashed in their old piggy banks due to the downturn
Hey guys...just talked to my dad, and while he hasnt hit up his banks yet he did tell me of a local coin shop that is selling Morgans for $14.50. That was yesterdays quoted price so it cant be much different. He also told me something absolutely unbelievable and it is that the owner of the coin shop had to send some ASEs to get melted because people would not buy them.
Basically this shop owner is relying to sell his higher priced gold coins and he cannot sell them resulting in him selling silver for lower prices to raise capital. It all seems odd but coupled with the fact that there are lots of silver coinage to be found in the banks that people in his area arent quite aware of silver's price
not stateside huh? hmmmm so that leaves only 2 places? am i warm?![]()
I continue to do quite poorly. The SSSS hasn't payed me a visit yet, (please, I'm begging you). My August totals are as follows:
Boxes: 8
90%: 1 Ken
40%: 4
Mephitis mephitis: 5
1 clad proof
Something has changed in my area. Up until a couple of months ago, I never got a box that was dated less than a year old. Since then, they have all been brand spanking new. I interpret this as the "old" boxes have been depleted from the distributer, and they had to break into the bank bags and process them for new boxes to meet demand. Thus, the coins I'm getting now have gone through another level of searching, and unless Grandpa's coin collection gets cashed in, I'm SOL, which would account for my diminishing returns (which weren't great to begin with). Anyone with more knowledge or that is more familiar with this type of situation, please chime in.
Thanx, and good luck folks.
Things are tough all over. I'm hoping the cycle changes soon myself. Repeat after ME. "Yea tho I walk through the valley of SKUNKS I will persevere cause I'm in line at the Roller Coaster and its almost my turn"! HH Mark

Another update...most are Peace dollatrs. 1923s to be exact and still for the cheap price of $14.500 in quantity less than 100. Anything over 100 and the shop owner will sell for $14.00 each
wow! does he ship??![]()

Looks good from here Mark!
I've been postponing my trip to the Bank for my 2 boxes. I went to my other bank(over the phone) a little while back and ordered 2 boxes. She told me when they would be in and that day I went in to pick them up...One teller has to talk to the mng and she comes out and I say yes, "I'm here to pick of my halves" and she tells me that she didn't take my name and acct # so they didn't order them and that they don't normally order coins because they end up coming right back to the bank. This was the same girl I spoke to on the phone to place the order...she conveniently "forgot" these important factors when I was trying to order.
I was quite pissed off that I was manipulated but bit my tounge and left. Luckily I don't have to deal with them but a couple times a year and I have another bank that is more forthright and actually respects me as a customer.

I've now been skunked 11 boxes in a row. Second time in 2 months im on a double digit run o skunk. Hate to say it but i think searching for halves has dried up in my neck of the woods. Had to happen some time right? Ordered 4 more boxes for next week and if i pull ZIP im just going to find something else to do with my time.
Happens to all of us just not that often Thank God. I can look at one 40%er out of 6 boxes and call it success, even an oz pays for gas. I don't know if I'm able to dump away enough of my competitions dumps anymore to keep getting some good stuff coming in- already order at every bank that will and afraid to up the orders I got cause I may lose them too. Its a game and I gotta play it to the end. Been wondering what to do when its over, spose I could make a $hitload of coinrings LOL.
Thinking about getting back to gold mining but that season is close to over now and its hard to cover expenses anyways- went last weekend cause a friend was up there. Shovelled into a sluice for 2 days- believe ME, carrying bags and boxes in and out of banks is no exercise at all haha. Think I'll go back weekend after next for one last fling before the snow flies. Rough day today. Started off when I went to get my (2) $1K bags. Angelina says we have to talk, bank can no longer foot the bill for my bags. I asked if I paid the fee for the bags if she would continue to order them at least for awhile. Fee is small compared to boxes and I'm just not ready to give up yet.
Later I find out both bags skunked ME out, so in desperation to get some silver today I got a box of dimes and a box of quarters. Best chance was the dimes but they skunked ME too. Fortunately the quarters saved the day with a '64- whew, that was a close one. I just hate them days when I don't find something haha. HH all, Mark

Good day today. Got my weekly Saturday pickup and got a nice bit including a 1861 Seated Liberty. Anyways 6 boxes gave up the Seated, (2) Bens, (3) '64, and (36) 40%ers. Also got skunked on a box of quarters but got (2) Roos out of 3 dime boxes. Good day I'd say. HH Mark

Thanks. Yea been kind of lean lately but these occasional multi oz days keep ME going. I'm on a 2.2 oz/day average for the year right now, break even point is probly 1 oz/day (gas, candy...-- not time) so I'm still makin and saving $. I'll try to find my camera and show the seated, not great but very readable. HH Mark

I bet these things would turn up a bloody fortune over a week.

A beauty ME!!! congrats!!!
So here i am, on a 15 box skunk streak half way through #16 and low and behold! Could it be? I had to blink a few times to make sure it was true. A 1967!! Hallelujah!!!!!
lol I seriously have to find something else to do with my time.![]()

Congrats on the 40%er, sometimes thats all there is. Amazing what I call success these days but it is still worthwhile to ME. Besides if I didn't need the $$$ to hunt with I would piss it away, thas what happened last time I tried to quit- spent $1,000 on a two week camping trip no hookers or nothin. Then when I got home I went on a spending spree with APMEX for a couple weeks. Picked the habit back up out of necessity, besides the silver was back. HH Mark
BTW gonna change it up a little this weekend, going camping and do a little gold prospecting, if you all don't hear from ME again I either found a bunch or the beers got ME haha.

Speaking of Coinstar, all of September if you dump 40+ FRN's you get a bonus 10 FRN's at itunes if you're into that kind of thing. I'm not, but always looking for a free bonus dump location, and this will score some bonus points with the girly-friend!

Otherwise, I'm in the same sinking ship as ABC123 and about ready to quit this crapola as I was double-skunked again this week. Serious question: when do we know when it's time to stop? Fingerprinting coins you've already seen (and marked) and skunk after skunk is doing it for me and I'm losing momentum and motivation fast. Between halves and copper cents, all this dumping is getting old as well.
The dumping is definitely the hard part for me. The dirty looks from the bank tellers and the questions, "oh god here comes the guy with the coins again", "where do you get these?" with a dumb look on their faces. Luckily i found a credit union with a free machine that takes most of the stress of dumping away, except for 1 thing. The damm coin machine bags only hold a little over $1000 in halves! So the bank guy has to keep getting up from his desk and emptying it.
Ill be taking a break for awhile, maybe try the quarters and dimes. My area just seems all dried up. Good luck to you all!![]()
That is a good question. I have lowered my hunting funds from 4 to 3 (only had one bank I got 4 at so only lost 2 boxes a week), I don't want to be sitting on alot of cash if the bottom drops out of the $. I know I've handled the same coins lots of times but as long as there's still silver getting mixed in I'm still playing. I know going a week or so getting skunked is hard and every time I seriousely consider quitting the silver comes back to keep ME going awhile longer.
As you can see I'm back so the bears didn't get ME- the beers did haha. There was a sow and two cubs that had a habit of coming and chewing things up when I got there but one night of Maggie barking cured that, second night she didn't bark once. HH all, Mark

Bought a box of quarters today from Arvest, and they told me they had to start charging $0.10 per roll, even though the first day I walked in I was assured there were no premiums for buying coin... guess I'll find somewhere else to go
Waded through 6 skunks last night. Hope for a better day today. HH Mark

Went on my first prospecting run today. I figured I would start small so I bought $20.00 worth of rolled dimes at the bank. Lots of 65's and 67's but I struck silver on the second roll and had a 1945 Merc roll out. I am now hooked. Gonna replace that dime and roll em back up and get some quarters next.![]()
Wow, that's a good find in only $20! I'd get some more dimes!!!

I am going to add a $20 every month to my prospecting fund and just keep going to the bank after every haul and reroll. I just gotta find a good dump site. This is like a whole new amazing world to me.

Recycled my $20 this morning and got a 1962 Ben and three 40% half's. Gonna recycle again and hit up all the credit unions today for silver dollars and half's. I have almost made my initial investment back already with 0.8777 oz.'s I should be rich by next month...![]()
Wow, no kidding! I'd be moving up to boxes if I was you!

I wish I could afford to. I will get built up to it soon enough though.
I havn't found a thing in quarters yet. I made a run on quarters and dimes yesterday and got skunked on them all. I did find a 1948 nickle in my buddies change jar last night, but if it would have been a quarter or a dime I would have been happy. I have found plenty of 1965 quarters, Seems like they are mainly 1965's, 1980's, or state quarters. I am gonna hit up the credit unions tomorrow for more halfs though. Fingers crossed I find something. So far they have been very helpful and let me dig through their bags on their change machines for the halfs. I have been dumping at the Walmart's credit union and customer service at Target.
ETA: I also have some family in a very prime picking spot that is going to start grabbing coins for me as well. Lets just say it is a VERY good place to pick.
Lol, you got the bug for sure.

No doubt. I just wish the banks were open today, I am jonesin for my coin fix...![]()
