    Default Bizarro Universaro

I picked up 140 ounces of #47 (7 tubes) off a Cat this evening @ 20 cents above the spot close. It's another contact to add to my list for the future.

5 tubes of A-Mark liberty rounds, one tube of hodge podge generics, and one tube of a curious sort. 20 Universaro coins....and I thought they were kinda cool from the respect that I'd not seen them before and didn't know about them...hadn't seen them on E-bay before either.

Anyways...if any of the C/Kats here have any insight into these....it would be appreciated.

Curiosity will not kill this Cat!

I see the Universaros pop up quite frequently here in central Virginia. I don't have any official mintage stats for you, but I'd wager there were tens if not hundreds of thousand churned out.

I don't wish to perpetuate rumors...but I have heard on several occaisions the producers of these coins (I think they are pictured on the coin) had some far out ideals and were some kind of cult?

Anyhow....o.k. coins.....I buy $1.00ish back of spot and sell for spot or spot+.50 .

Based on the images on the coin, I don't think I'd want to hang with that cult on Saturday night (or even Tuesday either). Something a little scary---

BTW, by the standards of most of us, myself included, spot + .20 is a good price. I've spent more.

Why do they look more like gold coins than silver

Same problem with the photos as with the cult: white balance.

Nice accumulation. As far as the Universaro coins go do not covet them, they are the devils work! Or not.

You are braver then I. I only buy what I'm very very familiar with, that which everybody is familiar with. I'd rather pay a bit extra to unsure that someday in the future my market of buyers/traders is more then a unique or a very trusting handful of people.

What more can you want than universaro recognition?

different bits of info found at: http://www.worldcoins.org/message-board/read.php?11,808

they came from a mint in Utah , called the international dia-mint corp -- or:

My own information, based on its listing in the Unusual World Coin catalog, states that the Universaro was said to be made by the Inter-Mint in Colton, California. Another coin, called the Mundinero was made by "Wade-Ventures". The Universaro pieces exist from '72, '73, '74, and '75. The Mundinero pieces are from '73. But my knowledge of the dates may be incomplete. My only "theory" is that the Universaro coins and the Mundinero coins were made by the same people. They both have similar lettering and just look like "siblings". Have you seen the Mundinero coins? If you go to thecoin-section on e-Bay, and search for Mundinero (and Universaro, for that matter),
you will find plenty of them.

It's my understanding the coins were produced in the early 70s by the International Mint Corporation and often marketed to those described today as "survivalists." The coins, I believe are one troy ounce of 99.999 "fine silver." A company brochure, I recall, had an illustation of a rather unattractive woman with a wheel barrow full of money trying to buy a loaf of bread, all to no avail. Today, it would be a gallon of gas. IMC, I believe also produced objects d'art, such as ram sculptures, etc. made of their silver. As far as those five heads depicted on one side of the coin, I believe those were supposed to be the five major races of the world. Value of the one ounce coin, I believe, would be determined by the current market value of silver.

they are common rounds, 999 Ag, 1 troy, that is all anyone will really care about.

    Ag,
I picked one up off of Fleabay back in February because I thought that it was an unusual Ag round. Don't know if you ever got an answer or if by now you care but here it goes.

Coin Collecting - 1972 Universaro Silver Coins

    <hr style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0); background-color: rgb(204, 0, 0); height: 1px;" noshade="1" size="1" color="#cc0000" width="100%"> Expert: Dan Moore - 2/12/2005

    Question
Cannot find much info on these 1 troy ounce 1972 silver coin. these 2 that I have are just a little tarnished but have rarely ever been handled. what is their worth?

    Answer
    Hi Mary,

    Thank you for your question.

These are silver bullion coins -- AKA silver rounds -- created to commemorate world trade and peace.
The obverse shows the scales of justice (signifying world trade), wheat ears (signifying peace), and the 5 faces of economy. The reverse shows many worlds coming together for world trade, and wheat ears for peace.
These were privately issued by issued by Inter-Mint of Colton, California as a World Trade Unit -- an idea that was short-lived.
The value of these is based only on the one ounce pure silver they contain -- currently about $7 each.

    I hope this helps,

    Dan
