I have 50k at .455 thx to Straw
WOW, congrats optics. did you secure any profits today? I'm wishing I bought more myself.
Hey Strawboss, when you are out to the Left Coast, I want to take you, your bride and your kids to one fabulous dinner for the recommendation of Pinetree and many others.

Interesting comments on your thread strawboss! Have held Pinetree for a very very long time. Hoping it does well

Here is an update on Pinetree. Technically - we are at "do or die". Either we continue the push up and through resistance (and the RSI moves above 60) or we drop back down a bit.
Considering this is a monthly chart, and awareness in the juniors/micros is only beginning and the technicals have plenty of upside room to run, it is my opinion that we will take out this resistance and continue to run upwards.
But, as they say - DYODD...

Somebody call the Fire Department, PineTree is on fire!
Sure smells like a breakout to me, up another 22 cents today. More than 1.3 million shares volume.

Pinetree bought rare earth metals RA.v yesterday, which I also own. woot.
Dont be surprised by some resistance at $3 - round number resistance, and a point of resistance on the monthly chart I posted earlier today. We will break up and through and go much, much higher. Use any dips in price as an opportunity to establish/add to positions. Technically, it wouldnt be a bad thing if we had a period of consolidation for a month or so...the stochastic on the daily and weekly are both embedded, but, the monthly still has plenty of room on the upside.

Wow! I know you guys want me to shut up, but this stock won't quit. I'm kicking myself for not backing up the truck, but as long as the pink sheets follow the TSE:PNP movement today I am up a buck a share already!
I'm glad I took a small position in this, it's been on a tear lately. Wish I'd bought more, but I tend to be distrustful of anything on the pinks...

There is no deal in the works. Pinetree is a bank - not a mining company. They are a bank that holds stock and warrants in literally hundreds of micro explorers - mostly in the precious metals and commodities complex. As those shares increase (for obvious reasons) - the value of Pinetree increases.

I have a hard time fathoming that happening. Couple of reasons. The people that run it - they obviously know what they are doing and why - The board stands to gain more by being independent than by abdicating the reins to someone else. Secondly, their business model is by no means exclusive or proprietary. It would be easy for another bank, hedge fund, etc... to do likewise (and in fact many others will). Also - I dont think the shareholders would want it to happen because if it was purchased by a private interest - they would lose the ability to invest in 1 stock that gives them the exposure and diversity or; if it was purchased by a large entity - they would lose the direct ''juice" as Pinetree would simply become a small piece of a large - diversified entity.
Of course I could be wrong, but, if it was to occur - I would be a vocal opponent of such a move.

"Everything is for sale, if the price is right."
I see Pinetree's portfolio as being unique and it would be expensive, time-consuming, and difficult to duplicate. Many if not most of its common share holdings, not even to mention the warrants, are thinly traded issues that would be difficult to accumulate on the open market, at least not without moving the markets significantly higher.
Indeed, maybe that is what is happening. Maybe some hedge funds are paying a lot closer attention to the daily NAV of Pinetree than us little guys. And if somebody is buying the issues in PineTree's portfolio, PineTree stock will move up right along with it..
Anyway, I see today's move to a new high at $3.19 (and still rising) as very bullish, since it is happening with gold and silver down sharply.

could be preparing for a correction this week, my estimate around 3.20 to 3.40. May drop down to around 2.80 and if in true run will begin climbing again. If it does not break past on that coming run past 3.10. It is preparing to down trend.

Pinetree closing at $3.15 USD is up 68% for the month of November!!!!!
I am loving whats going on but I am not selling for years.
Keep an eye on the B Warrants, exercisable at C$3.50. They should now move almost dollar for dollar with the common, giving about 3x leverage, multiplied by the incredible intrinsic leverage of the portfolio.
The warrants are up about 100% over the last week or so.
These warrants are among the best "lottery ticket" plays out there.

can you buy B warrants on u.s. exchange or do you have to go with a canadian broker?
I have accounts at a couple of the big domestic online brokers, and I can't buy them there. Just send an email to your broker to be sure..
I do my Canadian trades at Interactive Brokers. I can trade on about 25 different exchanges around the world, on the local exchanges in the local currency. (IB is highly recommended, except for noobs. Their customer service is virtually non-existent.).

Volume is not high enough to indicate profit taking as yet. However it is getting very close. The last couple of days of the move will be probably the best and worth the wait. Volume will be much higher. Price will move to a new high but close of the price will be lower than previous close. That will be the likely indicator.
SAGI
I suspect there will be some temporary resistance here at the C$3.50 area, the strike price of the B warrants. There will probably be some arbitrage and cross-hedging, buying the warrants, selling the common, or vice versa, depending on the spreads and the computer valuation models for the warrants.

Gone past 3.40 which is where i expected it to correct so I was wrong. However it may not go much further all technical indicators show its reaching against gravity. It must at least take a breather soon.

Very close but still no indication of a correction hold on. No irregular volumes. rule of thumb; High of the day is higher than high of the previous day, but close of the day is below close of the previous day- Look for heavy volumes with the above -This may be an indication that the stock may have achieved a pivot point. -Jesse Livermoore.

Absolutely old chap enjoying it very much. Volumes not much up today which actually is a good sign. I would be nervous with extreme volume. If it must correct let it be a breather. Fine line between breather and correction.

This stock is parabolic at the moment but it has not even approached its early 2008 pre crash price around $4.80 USD.
May hit resistance at 3.85 if not it may go all the way to 5.95 or 6.00. Waiting waiting waiting.......tic toc tic toc tic......

This is a monthly chart for Pinetree.
One of the things I have learned with technical analysis is to watch the RSI - with a setting of 14. When a stock is in a downtrend, the RSI will NOT rise above a reading of 60. When the RSI does rise above 60 after being in a downtrend - it is a sure sign that there has been a change in trend - in this case the trend is now up.
A second form of confirmation is that we have now put in a higher high.
These 2 factors convince me that Pinetree is in an uptrend and that we will see substantially higher prices in 2011. $3 should be a solid base of support and I wouldnt be surprised if price went back down at some point to that level to test that support. Since this is a monthly chart, that would be $3 support on a monthly closing basis (intramonth dips are possible below that support level).
